Dark Faerie Tales: Love them or hate them, the 50 Shades books have done a lot for the erotic genre. What influenced you to write novels with graphic sex scenes? Has writing these scenes been more freeing in your own love life?
Cynthia: I agree—the 50 Shades books have done a lot for the erotic genre. So many more people are reading sexy books now—and more readers is always a good thing in my mind. For me, I always tended to write more explicit scenes in my stories. I want my stories to reflect real life situation as much as possible, and in real life, we don’t really use a lot of purple prose. (So to speak!) So I rather just like to tell it, well, the way it is!
DFT: Does your own sexuality come into play when you are writing a particular sex scene?
Cynthia: I actually never think of myself when I write a book. I just get totally into the minds of the characters (which is good considering that I write about way too many serial killers and villains!).
DFT: How did you learn to write good sex scenes? The descriptions and the positions? Was there a lot of research involved? More importantly, did you apply these techniques off the page?
Cynthia: I actually think sex scenes are the hardest scenes to write in any book. For me, the challenge is balancing the physical and emotional aspects for the characters. You don’t want the scene to *just* be physical or *just* be emotional—a powerful blend is the best for readers.
DFT: Why do you think people flock to erotic? Do you think sexy stories sell?
Cynthia: I think people love the books for pure escapism. The tales are pleasure reads. You can escape from the worries of the real world and just slip into a good book.
DFT: What’s the difference between erotic fiction and porn? Do you think people get the genres mixed up?
Cynthia: Emotions and motivations and plots and characterizations and about a million other things are the difference.
DFT: How do you market your erotic titles? Do you find it difficult?
Cynthia: My books contain a mix of elements—some paranormal, some romantic suspense, and definite sexiness (at least, I hope!). I try to market for all of those elements. Readers are looking for entertaining, good stories, and that is what I try to deliver to them.
DFT: What are your thoughts on the 50 Shades movie and do you plan on seeing it in theatres?
Cynthia: I definitely plan to see the movie! And my hope is that it will attract more people to sexy romances!

About the Book:
Watch Me…The first book in New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Cynthia Eden’s sexy new romantic suspense series…DARK OBSESSION.
He was hired to protect her.
Watching gorgeous Gwen Hawthorne wasn’t a hard job—but it certainly was tempting. Chance Valentine had tried to keep his distance from the sexy socialite for years, but when her father hired him to keep watch on her—as a twenty-four, seven bodyguard—Chance knew his control was about to be pushed to the limit.
He’d never wanted another woman the way he desired her. Hot. Intense. Consuming. Being so close to Gwen, Chance knew that he wouldn’t be able to resist her. So he gave into his need, her need, and he took them both to the edge of a dark and consuming desire.
But Chance soon realizes that he isn’t the only one watching Gwen. Someone else is out there, a stalker who won’t rest until Gwen is destroyed. Every day, every moment…Gwen is in danger. And Chance knows that if he can’t unmask the stalker, then he may just lose the only woman he has ever loved.
