Title: Loki’s Wolves

AuthorK.L. ArmstrongM.A. Marr

Genre: Middle Grade Fantasy

Series: Blackwell Pages (Book 1)

Publication Date: May 7, 2013

Synopsis

In Viking times, Norse myths predicted the end of the world, an event called Ragnarok that only the gods can stop. When this apocalypse happens, the gods must battle the monsters—wolves the size of the sun, serpents that span the seabeds—all bent on destroying the world.

The gods died a long time ago.

Matt Thorsen knows every Norse myth, saga, and god as if it was family history—because it is family history. Most people in the modern-day town of Blackwell, South Dakota, in fact, are direct descendants of either Thor or Loki, including Matt’s classmates Fen and Laurie Brekke.

However, knowing the legends and completely believing them are two different things. When the rune readers reveal that Ragnarok is coming and kids—led by Matt—will stand in for the gods in the final battle, he can hardly believe it. Matt, Laurie, and Fen’s lives will never be the same as they race to put together an unstoppable team to prevent the end of the world.

WHY I CANNOT WAIT: Kelley Armstrong? Check. Melissa Marr? Check. Norse Mythology? Check. I love the way Kelley Armstrong writes and I really enjoy mythology of any kind. I can’t wait to see what this team up between Armstrong and Marr turns out. I haven’t read too many of the middle grade books and even though this seems like a clone of Percy Jackson without the greek gods (which I also haven’t read), I still really want to pick up the first book in the Blackwell Pages series.

Title: Dead Ever After

Author: Charlaine Harris

Genre: Urban Fantasy

Series: Sookie Stackhouse (Book 13)

Publication Date: May 7, 2013

Synopsis

There are secrets in the town of Bon Temps, ones that threaten those closest to Sookie—and could destroy her heart….

Sookie Stackhouse finds it easy to turn down the request of former barmaid Arlene when she wants her job back at Merlotte’s. After all, Arlene tried to have Sookie killed. But her relationship with Eric Northman is not so clearcut. He and his vampires are keeping their distance…and a cold silence. And when Sookie learns the reason why, she is devastated.

Then a shocking murder rocks Bon Temps, and Sookie is arrested for the crime.

But the evidence against Sookie is weak, and she makes bail. Investigating the killing, she’ll learn that what passes for truth in Bon Temps is only a convenient lie. What passes for justice is more spilled blood. And what passes for love is never enough…

WHY I CANNOT WAIT: Sookie Stackhouse series is one of the first series that really kickstarted my love for the urban fantasy genre. I am happy yet sad that this series is ending, Sookie needs her “ever after” whether it is happy or sad. I know who I’m rooting for in her future (although I’m sure that won’t happen since I have been rooting for it since the beginning) but however it ends, I hope it will bring a lot of closure to the fans of this series.

Title: Carniepunk Anthology

AuthorsJennifer EstepRachel CaineSeanan McGuireRob ThurmanKevin HearneDelilah S. DawsonKelly GayMark Henry, Hillary Jacques, Jackie KesslerKelly MedingAllison PangNicole Peeler, and Jaye Wells

Genre: Urban Fantasy

Series: N/A

Publication Date: July 30, 2013

Synopsis

A star-studded urban fantasy anthology featuring bestselling authors Rachel Caine, Rob Thurman, Seanan McGuire, Jennifer Estep, and Kevin Hearne, whose stories explore the creepy, mysterious, and, yes, sometimes magical world of traveling carnivals. The traveling carnival is a leftover of a bygone era, a curiosity lurking on the outskirts of town. It is a place of contradictions—the bright lights mask the peeling paint; a carnie in greasy overalls slinks away from the direction of the Barker’s seductive call. It is a place of illusion—is that woman’s beard real? How can she live locked in that watery box?

And while many are tricked by sleight of hand, there are hints of something truly magical going on. One must remain alert and learn quickly the unwritten rules of this dark show. To beat the carnival, one had better have either a whole lot of luck or a whole lot of guns—or maybe some magic of one’s own.

Featuring stories grotesque and comical, outrageous and action-packed, Carniepunk is the first anthology to channel the energy and attitude of urban fantasy into the bizarre world of creaking machinery, twisted myths, and vivid new magic.

WHY I CANNOT WAIT: Uh, did you see the list of authors for this anthology? This is an urban fantasy dream come true. All these authors (minus the one I’ve never heard of) are on my must buy list when their titles come out. I will be picking up a copy of this anthology when it comes out in July!

Title: Winterblaze

Author: Kristen Callihan

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Series: Darkest London (Book 3)

Publication Date: February 26, 2013

Synopsis

Once blissfully in love . . .

Poppy Lane is keeping secrets. Her powerful gift has earned her membership in the Society for the Suppression of Supernaturals, but she must keep both her ability and her alliance with the Society from her husband, Winston. Yet when Winston is brutally attacked by a werewolf, Poppy’s secrets are revealed, leaving Winston’s trust in her as broken as his body. Now Poppy will do anything to win back his affections . . .

Their relationship is now put to the ultimate test.

Winston Lane soon regains his physical strength but his face and heart still bear the scars of the vicious attack. Drawn into the darkest depths of London, Winston must fight an evil demon that wants to take away the last hope of reconciliation with his wife. As a former police inspector, Winston has intelligence and logic on his side. But it will take the strength of Poppy’s love for him to defeat the forces that threaten to tear them apart.

WHY I CANNOT WAIT: The Darkest London series was perhaps my favorite new series of 2012. This series so far has focused on two (Miranda & Daisy) of three sisters with Winterblaze as the final sister (Poppy)’s story which took a dark toll in Moonglow. The first two books in the series were fantastically written with characters that show some real depth and emotion. Just reading the synopsis makes me a little emotional but I cannot wait for Poppy’s story and to be sucked back into this dark, imaginative world.

Title: Unravel Me

Author: Tahereh Mafi

Genre: YA Dystopian

Series: Shatter Me (Book 2)

Publication Date: February 5, 2013

Synopsis

tick, tick, tick, tick, tick

it’s almost

time for war.

Juliette has escaped to Omega Point. It is a place for people like her—people with gifts—and it is also the headquarters of the rebel resistance.

She’s finally free from The Reestablishment, free from their plan to use her as a weapon, and free to love Adam. But Juliette will never be free from her lethal touch.

Or from Warner, who wants Juliette more than she ever thought possible.

In this exhilarating sequel to Shatter Me, Juliette has to make life-changing decisions between what she wants and what she thinks is right. Decisions that might involve choosing between her heart—and Adam’s life.

WHY I CANNOT WAIT: The ending to Shatter Me left Juliette pondering a future of happiness that she never thought was possible but the synopsis for Unravel Me already has me on edge. Pending war? Happiness with Adam? or captured by a crazed leader who happens to think of Juliette as only his? Just writing this makes me want to pick this novel up off my TBR shelf. I cannot wait to see where this very bleak dystopian series leads to next.

Series: Night Prince (Book 2)

Publication Date: March 26, 2013

Like choosing between eternal love and a loveless eternity . . .

Soon circumstances send Leila back to the carnival circuit, where tragedy strikes. And when she finds herself in the crosshairs of a killer who may be closer than she realizes, Leila must decide who to trust– the fiery vampire who arouses her passions like no other or the tortured knight who longs to be more than a friend? With danger stalking her every step of the way, all it takes is one wrong move to damn her for eternity . . .

WHY I CANNOT WAIT: Jeaniene Frost’s books are always a must buy/read for me as soon as they hit the shelves. Vlad, oh sexy Vlad, why must I wait until the end of March for the next installment of your story with Leila? I don’t even need to read what this story is about as long as Vlad shows up, I’ll be a happy reader.

Title: Untitled!

Author: Sarah J. Maas

Genre: YA Fantasy

Series: Throne of Glass (Book 2)

Publication Date: Sometime in the Fall of 2013 (too long to wait!)

Synopsis: N/A (not even a tiny hint)

WHY I CANNOT WAIT: Assassin’s,castle’s, a strange love triangle and an excellent world mythology already have me excited about the next book in the Throne of Glass world. I hope to see more of Caelana’s assassin side. I also hope for more of the chemistry between her and Westfall. I really wished I could have picked this book up after I had finished Throne of Glass. I absolutely loved the first book and can’t wait for this one.

Title: Siege and Storm

Author: Leigh Bardugo

Genre: YA Fantasy

Series: The Grisha (Book 2)

Publication Date: June 4, 2013

Synopsis

Darkness never dies.

Hunted across the True Sea, haunted by the lives she took on the Fold, Alina must try to make a life with Mal in an unfamiliar land, all while keeping her identity as the Sun Summoner a secret. But she can’t outrun her past or her destiny for long.

The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and a dangerous plan that will test the very boundaries of the natural world. With the help of a notorious privateer, Alina returns to the country she abandoned, determined to fight the forces gathering against Ravka. But as her power grows, Alina slips deeper into the Darkling’s game of forbidden magic, and farther away from Mal. Somehow, she will have to choose between her country, her power, and the love she always thought would guide her–or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm.

WHY I CANNOT WAIT: Shadow and Bone was a surprise jewel mixed with a bunch of so-so goodness. It was one of my favorite books of 2012. Alina made questionable choices at times but the awesome ending has me anticipating Siege and Storm with a fury. Alina has made a powerful enemy in the Darkling so I know that what is awaiting her when he shows back up can only be terrible, maybe even tragic (*fingers crossed that it is not*). I am completely salivating at the chance to finally read this sequel when it comes out in June.

Title: Ever After

Author: Kim Harrison

Genre: Urban Fantasy

Series: The Hollows (Book 11)

Publication DateJanuary 22, 2013

Synopsis

The ever after, the demonic realm that parallels the human world, is shrinking. If it disappears completely, so does all magic. It’s up to witch-turned-daywalking-demon Rachel Morgan to avert catastrophe and keep life from changing… for the worse.

While saving the world is important, it isn’t Rachel’s only motivation. There’s also the small fact that she caused the ley line to rip in the first place, setting off a chain reaction of unfortunate events. That little mistake has made her life forfeit unless she can fix it. It’s also made her more than a few enemies, including the most powerful demon in the ever after—a terrifying entity who eats souls and now has an insatiable appetite for her. He’s already kidnapped her friend and goddaughter to lure her out, and if Rachel doesn’t give herself up soon, they’ll die.

But Rachel has more than a few impressive and frightening skills of her own, and she isn’t going to hand over her soul and her life without one hell of a fight. She’s also got a surprise: elven tycoon Trent Kalamack. With this unlikely ally beside her—a prospect both thrilling and unnerving—she’s going to return to the ever after, kick some demon butt, rescue her loved ones… and prevent an apocalypse before it’s too late. Or, at least that’s the plan…

WHY I CANNOT WAIT: Kim Harrison. Rachel Morgan. The Hollows. Enough said…but if is isn’t, let me elaborate. The Hollows is my all-time favorite series. It has made me laugh and cry, I love being immersed in the story, I really connect with this series for some strange reason. I absolutely cannot wait to read what is next for Rachel and having to go back into the ever after is always an entertaining and scary place to go. Rachel and Trent have always been hot and cold and their history in the ever after is not very good but I am a HUGE Trent fan (for some reason! ;)) and I can’t wait to see what is next for this strange relationship. I love to see how Rachel gets herself out of the messes she puts herself in.

Title: Untitled Psy/Changeling Book #12

Author: Nalini Singh

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Series: Psy/Changeling (Book 12)

Publication Date: June 4, 2013

Synopsis

Get ready for a major event in the smash-hit New York Times bestselling series—a secret finally revealed, and fans are guaranteed an epic surprise.

In 2006, Nalini Singh introduced the beguiling and sensual Psy/Changeling world in Slave to Sensation, which spawned a series that has had readers and critics cheering. Througout the incredible 11-book run there has been one question that has tantalized Nalini’s legion of fans. Now, in the eagerly-awaited twelfth book in the series, Nalini Singh finally reveals the answer to the biggest Psy/Changeling mystery—an answer so surprising we wouldn’t dare spoil it. Even if we knew.

Features a secret so shocking, the title can’t be revealed until publication.

WHY I CANNOT WAIT: It says it is untitled because the title would give to much away. I wonder how long it will stay that way before something is leaked? But the secrecy surrounding this novel must mean that it has to be a gamechanger in the series. Is it finally the story of Ghost? or is Kaleb going to become an emotional victim? or are they one and the same? So much speculation… I could be totally wrong on all counts but whomever the story is about or whatever the title is, I’m still going to right out and picking up this novel. Nalini Singh has such a gift for words, characters and story, I would read anything she wrote without even looking at the title or synopsis.
