Author Interview & Giveaway: Widow’s Web by Jennifer Estep

Dark Faerie Tales is extremely excited to have Jennifer Estep stop by today for a brief interview and giveaway. The seventh title in Jennifer’s Elemental Assassin series, Widow’s Web, was recently released on August 21, 2012. Want to know our thought’s on this series? Read Angela’s review for Spider’s Bite then read Sheila’s reviews for Web of Lies, Venom, Tangled Threads, and Spider’s Revenge. One lucky winner will receive a copy of Widow’s Web, thanks to Jennifer.

About Jennifer:

Jennifer Estep is a New York Times bestselling author, prowling the streets of her imagination in search of her next fantasy idea.

Jennifer writes the Elemental Assassin adult urban fantasy series for Pocket. Books in the series are SPIDER’S BITE, WEB OF LIES, VENOM, TANGLED THREADS, SPIDER’S REVENGE, and BY A THREAD. THREAD OF DEATH, an e-novella, is also available.

HAINTS AND HOBWEBS: AN ELEMENTAL ASSASSIN SHORT STORY can be found in THE MAMMOTH BOOK OF GHOST ROMANCE.

WIDOW’S WEB, the seventh book, is set to be released on Aug. 21, 2012.

Jennifer also writes the Mythos Academy young adult urban fantasy series for Kensington.

Books in the series are TOUCH OF FROST, KISS OF FROST, and DARK FROST. CRIMSON FROST, the fourth book, is set to be released in January 2013.

FIRST FROST, a prequel e-story to the series, is available as a download. HALLOWEEN FROST, an e-short story, is available in the ENTANGLED e-anthology.

Jennifer is also the author of the Bigtime paranormal romance series. Books in the superhero-themed series are KARMA GIRL, HOT MAMA, and JINX. A KARMA GIRL CHRISTMAS, an e-story, is also available.

DFT: Please start off by telling us about the supernatural world you have created in the Elemental Assassin’s series?

JE: My Elemental Assassin urban fantasy series focuses on Gin Blanco, an assassin codenamed the Spider who can control the elements of Ice and Stone. When she’s not busy killing people and righting wrongs, Gin runs a barbecue restaurant called the Pork Pit in the fictional Southern metropolis of Ashland. The city is also home to giants, dwarves, vampires, and elementals – Air, Fire, Ice, and Stone. Some folks are also gifted in offshoots of those four main elemental areas, like electricity would be an offshoot of Air power.

DFT: What is your long term goal for this series? How long would you like to see this series going?

JE: I love writing the series and coming up for new challenges and villains for Gin to face down, so I imagine that I’ll keep writing the books as long as readers are still enjoying them. Right now, I’m under contract for ten books, and I think that I’d like to write at least a couple more books beyond those ten. We’ll see what happens.

DFT: Are there any similarities between Gin and you? If so, what are they?

JE: Well, Gin is definitely a lot tougher than I could ever be. As far as similarities go, we both like to read, cook, and spend time with our friends and family.

DFT: How does your writing style vary from your adult series (Elemental Assassin/Bigtime) and your young adult series (Mythos Academy)?

JE: All three of my series feature a lot of the same elements – strong, sassy heroines, magic/paranormal worlds, and lots of action and fight scenes. But my Elemental Assassin series is definitely the darkest and grittiest of my three series, while the Bigtime books are definitely more campy, fun, and over-the-top. With my Mythos Academy books, I’m writing a young adult series and telling more of a coming-of-age story with a heroine who’s still trying to figure out her magic and what she wants her place in the world to be.

DFT: What paranormal creature (or maybe not so paranormal) creature scares you the most?

JE: As far as paranormal creatures go, I would say zombies because they just keep coming after you. As far as regular creatures go, I’m not a fan of snakes.

DFT: Thank you for your interview!

JE: Thanks for hosting me on the blog again. I appreciate it. Happy reading, everyone!

One lucky winner will receive a copy of Widow’s Web by Jennifer Estep

Available August 21, 2012 from Pocket Books/Simon & Schuster

About this Book:

I used to murder people for money, but these days it’s more of a survival technique.

Once an assassin, always an assassin. So much for being plain old Gin Blanco. With every lowlife in Ashland gunning for me, I don’t need another problem, but a new one has come to town.

Salina might seem like a sweet Southern belle, but she’s really a dangerous enemy whose water elemental magic can go head-to-head with my own Ice and Stone power. Salina also has an intimate history with my lover, Owen Grayson, and now that she’s back in town, she thinks he’s hers for the taking.

Salina’s playing a mysterious game that involves a shady local casino owner with a surprising connection to Owen. But they call me the Spider for a reason. I’m going to untangle her deadly scheme, even if it leaves my love affair hanging by a thread.

This series sounds AMAZING! It has been on my TBR list for a really long time and the only reason I haven’t started it yet is because the text-to-speech function isn’t enabled on the kindle version and I listen to books in my truck a couple hours a day. I’m slowly picking up print copies and will hopefully start it soon!
