DFT: Please start off by telling us about the supernatural world you have created in the Elemental Assassin’s series?
JE: My Elemental Assassin urban fantasy series focuses on Gin Blanco, an assassin codenamed the Spider who can control the elements of Ice and Stone. When she’s not busy killing people and righting wrongs, Gin runs a barbecue restaurant called the Pork Pit in the fictional Southern metropolis of Ashland. The city is also home to giants, dwarves, vampires, and elementals – Air, Fire, Ice, and Stone. Some folks are also gifted in offshoots of those four main elemental areas, like electricity would be an offshoot of Air power.
DFT: What is your long term goal for this series? How long would you like to see this series going?
JE: I love writing the series and coming up for new challenges and villains for Gin to face down, so I imagine that I’ll keep writing the books as long as readers are still enjoying them. Right now, I’m under contract for ten books, and I think that I’d like to write at least a couple more books beyond those ten. We’ll see what happens.
DFT: Are there any similarities between Gin and you? If so, what are they?
JE: Well, Gin is definitely a lot tougher than I could ever be. As far as similarities go, we both like to read, cook, and spend time with our friends and family.
DFT: How does your writing style vary from your adult series (Elemental Assassin/Bigtime) and your young adult series (Mythos Academy)?
JE: All three of my series feature a lot of the same elements – strong, sassy heroines, magic/paranormal worlds, and lots of action and fight scenes. But my Elemental Assassin series is definitely the darkest and grittiest of my three series, while the Bigtime books are definitely more campy, fun, and over-the-top. With my Mythos Academy books, I’m writing a young adult series and telling more of a coming-of-age story with a heroine who’s still trying to figure out her magic and what she wants her place in the world to be.
DFT: What paranormal creature (or maybe not so paranormal) creature scares you the most?
JE: As far as paranormal creatures go, I would say zombies because they just keep coming after you. As far as regular creatures go, I’m not a fan of snakes.
DFT: Thank you for your interview!
JE: Thanks for hosting me on the blog again. I appreciate it. Happy reading, everyone!

Available August 21, 2012 from Pocket Books/Simon & Schuster
About this Book:
I used to murder people for money, but these days it’s more of a survival technique.
Once an assassin, always an assassin. So much for being plain old Gin Blanco. With every lowlife in Ashland gunning for me, I don’t need another problem, but a new one has come to town.
Salina might seem like a sweet Southern belle, but she’s really a dangerous enemy whose water elemental magic can go head-to-head with my own Ice and Stone power. Salina also has an intimate history with my lover, Owen Grayson, and now that she’s back in town, she thinks he’s hers for the taking.
Salina’s playing a mysterious game that involves a shady local casino owner with a surprising connection to Owen. But they call me the Spider for a reason. I’m going to untangle her deadly scheme, even if it leaves my love affair hanging by a thread.
