Look Who’s Going to BEA: Andrea Cremer

1. Can you introduce yourself to my readers?

Hi Everyone! I’m Andrea Cremer. My debut novel, NIGHTSHADE, will be on shelves on October 19. It’s a story about love, loyalty, and the struggle between fate and free will, told from the perspective of Calla – a seventeen-year-old alpha Guardian whose life turns upside down when she breaks her masters’ laws by saving the life of a human boy. NIGHTSHADE is the first book of a trilogy and will also be followed by a fourth book (a prequel). When I’m not writing, I’m a history professor at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota – which is perfect because my research is about witchcraft and warfare and my book explores those same themes (plus it has teen wolves!)

2. Are there any special events, panels or galleys you are looking forward to?

My goal is pretty much to not faint at the sheer size of BEA and all the wonderful books, publishers, and authors who will be there. Okay – I have another goal too – I want to snag as many ARCs as I can :) I’d especially like to get a copy of Maggie Stiefvater’s LINGER and any of Cassandra Clare’s upcoming books.

3. Will this be your first time attending BEA or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?

This is my first BEA – I cannot wait!!!! My advice to myself is: When you see an author you adore, do not A) Scream B) Tackle her/him C) Faint. Not fainting is a big theme for me in 2010.

4. Will you be doing an autograph signing at the expo? Any other fun stuff on your agenda?

Yes! I’ll be signing NIGHTSHADE ARCs in the Penguin booth from 10 – 11 a.m. on Thursday. I’m also on a panel with Richelle Mead (one of those authors I’m trying not to scream and faint over) on Wednesday morning. That panel will discuss the future of paranormal YA and is taking place at the Downtown Stage in the Javits Center at 11 a.m.

5. What other projects are you working on that you would like to tell us about?

My life is all about the NIGHTSHADE series at the moment; WOLFSBANE (book 2) is finished and will be published in summer 2011. I’m in the middle of drafting BLOODROSE (book 3), which will be on shelves in spring 2012. I’m also constantly jotting down notes and scribbling scenes for the untitled prequel, which will be published in fall 2012. While that’s taking up most of my time, I’m still writing snippets of the steampunk series that’s captured my fancy though I’m not sure when I’ll have the chance to give it my full attention. You can read about that project on my web site www.andreacremer.com I also update my schedule and upcoming events on my blog http://blurredhistory.blogspot.com

Thanks so much for the great questions! I hope to see many of you at BEA, don’t be shy about saying hello – I love meeting people :)

Synopsis (Product Description):

While other teenage girls daydream about boys, Calla Tor imagines ripping out her enemies’ throats. And she wouldn’t have it any other way. Calla was born a warrior and on her eighteenth-birthday she’ll become the alpha female of the next generation of Guardian wolves. But Calla’s predestined path veers off course the moment she saves the life of a wayward hiker, a boy her own age. This human boy’s secret will turn the young pack’s world upside down and forever alter the outcome of the centuries-old Witches’ War that surrounds them all.

That is a great goal (not fainting). I always love it when authors are fans too :) That will be my goal when I go to Rom-Con and get to see C. Feehan—or at least to breathe LOL Can’t wait to check out your book and good luck at BEA!
