Look Who’s Going to BEA: Kody Keplinger

1. Can you introduce yourself to my readers?

My name is Kody Keplinger. I’m an eighteen-year-old student at Ithaca College, and I’m the author of THE DUFF (Designated Ugly Fat Friend), a young adult novel which will be released in September of this year by Little Brown/Poppy.

2. Are there any special events, panels or galleys you are looking forward to?

I’m really, really looking forward to the autograph room.  I can’t wait to get a signed copy of RADIANT SHADOWS by Melissa Marr!  I also really hope I can get an advanced copy of MATCHED by Ally Condie.  I”ve never had any of my books signed before, so this will be a new and exciting experience for me.

3. Will this be your first time attending BEA or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?

This is my first time, and I really have no idea what to expect.  My agent has decided to let a lot of this be a surprise, so I have no clue what is ahead of me!

4. Will you be doing an autograph signing at the expo? Any other fun stuff on your agenda?

I will be doing an autograph session on Wednesday afternoon.  My book is also being featured in the Young Adult Editor’s Buzz panel, so I”m really looking forward to seeing that and meeting the author featured authors.  And right before BEA I’m participating in Teen Author Carnival at the Jefferson Market Branch library.  So I’ll have a full week!

5. What other projects are you working on that you would like to tell us about?

Right now, I’m working on a novel to be released by Poppy in Fall 2011.

Synopsis (Product Description):

Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper is cynical and loyal, and she doesn’t think she’s the prettiest of her friends by a long shot. She’s also way too smart to fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush. In fact, Bianca hates him. And when he nicknames her “Duffy,” she throws her Coke in his face.

But things aren’t so great at home right now. Desperate for a distraction, Bianca ends up kissing Wesley. And likes it. Eager for escape, she throws herself into a closeted enemies-with-benefits relationship with Wesley.

Until it all goes horribly awry. It turns out that Wesley isn’t such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she’s falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone.
