My name is Simone Elkeles and I write edgy teen romance novels. I am the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of Rules of Attraction, the sequel to my book Perfect Chemistry (watch the book trailer at end of post, Leaving Paradise, Return to Paradise (release date 09/2010), How to Ruin a Summer Vacation, How to Ruin my Teenage Life, and How to Ruin Your Boyfriend’s Reputation.
I am a Girl Scout leader and mom of two kids. I was a teen in the 80’s and still use words like “totally” and “grody” but resist the urge to wear bright purple eye shadow and double wrap-around belts with mini skirts. I really enjoy writing books for teens, even though I’m not one anymore (but I’ll always be one at heart)!
2. Are there any special events, panels or galleys you are looking forward to?
Besides the signings (which are always fun) and meeting the booksellers and fans, I love walking the exhibit floor to see what books are coming out. I didn’t like to read as a teen, but now I’m a huge reader and find that being at BEA is like being in a candy store. I can’t imagine my life without books!
I’m also excited about going to the Teen Author Carnival on Monday night. I love meeting readers and fans.
3. Will this be your first time attending BEA or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
This is not my first year at BEA. The first year I was published I went to BEA and loved it! It was huge, overwhelming, and completely awesome. I loved meeting authors, booksellers, librarians, publishers, and readers. My advice: put a big smile on your face, be careful not to spill any food or drink on your shirt, and wear comfy shoes! (Oh, and get ready to bring home a ton of books.)
4. Will you be doing an autograph signing at the expo? Any other fun stuff on your agenda?
On Monday, May 24th I’ll be at the Teen Author Carnival at the Jefferson Market Branch Library between 5-7pm. I’ll be doing a reading and signing…come join me!
On Wednesday, May 26th I’ll be signing copies of Leaving Paradise at the Llewellyn Flux booth #3576 from 1-2pm. Come join me for this champagne reception (for those over 21), chocolate (for those under and over 21), and to get signed copies of Leaving Paradise!
ALSO on Wednesday, May 26th from 3-4pm I’ll be at the Traditional Autographing Area signing copies of the ARC of Return to Paradise, the sequel to Leaving Paradise!
On Thursday, May 27th, come bright and early from 9:30-10:30am and visit me in the Bloomsbury/Walker booth # because I’ll be signing Rules of Attraction, which has now been on the New York Times bestseller list for three weeks in a row!
5. What other projects are you working on that you would like to tell us about?
I just finished Return to Paradise, the sequel to Leaving Paradise. Now I’m writing the third Perfect Chemistry novel. I don’t have a title yet, but I have hope that one magically appears in my head soon, ha ha. It will be about Luis, Alex’s youngest brother. Luis is a good boy who doesn’t live with the angst that his big brothers have always lived with. Luis is smart, funny, and has big dreams. When he falls for the wrong girl, Luis enters a dark world he’s never known to try and save her from herself. Just when he thinks he’s got life all figured out, Luis learns some disturbing news about his family that destroys his positive outlook on life. Will that Fuentes bad boy streak come out with a vengeance and lure Luis to live on the edge like his new girlfriend and his own father? Oh, I can’t wait to sit down and write it! The sequel to Leaving Paradise (Return to Paradise) is coming out in September and the third Perfect Chemistry novel is coming out in 2011!
Synopsis (Product Description):
When Carlos Fuentes returns to America after living in Mexico for a year, he doesn’t want any part of the life his older brother, Alex, has laid out for him at a high school in Colorado . Carlos likes living his life on the edge and wants to carve his own path—just like Alex did. Then he meets Kiara Westford. She doesn’t talk much and is completely intimidated by Carlos’ wild ways. As they get to know one another, Carlos assumes Kiara thinks she’s too good for him, and refuses to admit that she might be getting to him. But he soon realizes that being himself is exactly what Kiara needs right now.
