Blog Tour & Giveaway: The Iron Traitor by Julie Kagawa

Julie Kagawa returns with another novel in her Iron Fey World series, The Iron Traitor! It is the second novel in The Iron Fey: The Call of the Forgotten spin-off series but it is the sixth book in the Iron Fey series as a whole. The Iron Traitor will be released on October 28, 2013 from Harlequin Teen.

Here at Dark Faerie Tales, we adore Julie Kagawa. Not only has she written some fantastic stories, she has written many amazing characters. In her latest series, Kagawa extends the beloved Iron Fey series with The Iron Fey: Call of the Forgotten series. The second book in the series, The Iron Traitor, has two wonderful male leads; both whom are filled with angst and brood like a handsome swoony boy should.

The Iron Traitor is told through the eyes of Ethan Chase, the younger brother of the infamous Iron Fey Queen, Meghan. As Ethan’s parallel and contrast, The Iron Traitor also showcases Meghan’s son, Kierran. As a part of The Iron Traitor blog tour, I wanted to discuss our love of the relationship dynamic between Ethan and Kierran. They are both related by blood, but have so many similarities and differences.

First, let’s talk about some family ties. Both Ethan and Kierran have Meghan as a common factor. But as one is a brother and another is the nephew, that’s pretty much where it stops. Neither one know of each other, or even much about Meghan and her life. Ethan has been so far disconnected from the Fey world, and at Meghan’s request, that he feel’s abandoned. For Kierran, it appears that he has always been watched under the “Queen” that he doesn’t know beyond the imaginary line of protection. I love how Kagawa doesn’t write a perfect family. For me, this was the best part of the relationship. It was realistic, because let’s face it, not every family is without flaws.

Swoony boy elements. Both Ethan and Kierran are swoony. Readers, let’s face it. They are both filled with angst and sorrow. And, they also brood! And you know what makes them even more swoony? They both sacrifice so much for a young female. Ethan has crossed into the Nevernever for Kenzie, despite his ill-feelings towards it. And as for Kierran, he has sacrificed everything to make a memory into something more tangible. Fans, let’s be real. Both are handsome in their own way. And like many of you, I have put them both on the top of my list.

One of the largest set of differences that I saw between Ethan and Kierran were their actions and choices. Ethan has many obstacles laid out before him, but he approaches each one in a calculated way. Kierran follows with his heart wholeheartedly and goes for the gusto. He has only one thing in mind and will care less about the consequences that may come afterwards. Fans love both Ethan and Kierran for the romance and action that we get. While readers can connect in some way, through the familial ties, the choices and actions, or even because they are both swoony, Julie Kagawa’s fans know how to love them deeply and strongly.

The Iron Traitor showcases both Ethan and Kierran beautifully. I feel that as a reader, I got to know them a little more. Kagawa knows how to develop characters in a way that makes them reside in your heart and feel loved forever. The Iron Traitor is a wonderful addition to The Iron Fey series.  Want details about our giveaway? Read on…

About Julie:

Julie Kagawa was born in Sacramento, California. But nothing exciting really happened to her there. So, at the age of nine she and her family moved to Hawaii, which she soon discovered was inhabited by large carnivorous insects, colonies of house geckos and frequent hurricanes. She spent much of her time in the ocean, when she wasn’t getting chased out of it by reef sharks, jellyfish and the odd eel.

To pay the rent, Julie worked in different bookstores over the years, but discovered the managers frowned upon her reading the books she was supposed to be shelving. So she turned to her other passion: training animals. She worked as a professional dog trainer for several years, dodging Chihuahua bites and overly enthusiastic Labradors, until her first book sold and she stopped training to write full-time.

Julie now lives in Louisville, Kentucky, where the frequency of shark attacks are at an all-time low. She lives with her husband, two obnoxious cats, one Australian shepherd who is too smart for his own good and the latest addition, a hyperactive Papillon puppy.

About this Book:

In the real world, when you vanish into thin air for a week, people tend to notice.

After his unexpected journey into the lands of the fey, Ethan Chase just wants to get back to normal. Well, as “normal” as you can be when you see faeries every day of your life. Suddenly the former loner with the bad reputation has someone to try for-his girlfriend, Kenzie. Never mind that he’s forbidden to see her again.

But when your name is Ethan Chase and your sister is one of the most powerful faeries in the Nevernever, “normal” simply isn’t to be. For Ethan’s nephew, Keirran, is missing, and may be on the verge of doing something unthinkable in the name of saving his own love. Something that will fracture the human and faery worlds forever, and give rise to the dangerous fey known as the Forgotten. As Ethan’s and Keirran’s fates entwine and Keirran slips further into darkness, Ethan’s next choice may decide the fate of them all.

I loved loved LOVED The Iron Fey series!! Since 4 years ago when I picked up The Iron King at a local library. I bought all three in the series (at that time) and they still have a place of honor on my favorites shelf above my table! I’m not thaaaat keen on Ethan’s and Kierran’s tale though cause I still can’t let go of Megan and Ash…and Puck!!! Mannnn, Grimalkin too. I loved the entire cast and they’re like my dream cast of characters that I don’t think Ethan and Kierran can beat. Haha, but I’m still putting these two on my TBR tho, cause I’m sure any Julie Novel out there will be amazing. :)

P.S. I didn’t read your review cause I didn’t want to spoiler myself! Haha, but thanks for sharing your thoughts tho! I’ll be sure to read it when I DO get to reading The Iron Traitor. ;)
