Life is a Highway

Hi folks, today is Day 9 of Thea and Viv’s Big Adventure, and today’s theme is a Highway.  Today Viv and I are doing separate blogs.

I’ve been going with my gut a lot for this blog tour, and the first thing that popped into my mind with this theme is Tom Cochrane’s classic rock song Life is a Highway.

I love this song—it’s an adrenaline-inducing dance fest for me, and I’ve used it in several playlists for both exercise and for high energy writing times.

My tastes in music are eclectic.  I like classic rock, alternative, some hip hop, a very little bit of rap, and I create playlists for writing when I’m in the mood to listen to music.

I’m drawn to the new Tim Burton movie release Dark Shadows, with Johnny Depp, for a couple of reasons.  One of them is Johnny Depp himself, because I find him hysterically funny in the commercials.  The other reason is the movie soundtrack.  Every commercial I’ve seen about the movie has had awesome fun music.

(The San Francisco Chronicle has a fun review here that touches on the music a little)

I think I’m going to have to buy that movie soundtrack.

Here are some songs that are currently on my current playlist for writing.  Many on this particular list are classic, some are newer, and a few are downright dirty.  But they all have one thing in common—they give me a pump of high energy for whatever I’m working on.

Lonely Boy—The Black Keys

Howlin’ for You—The Black Keys

Sexy Back—Justin Timberlake

My Sharona—The Knack

Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezing—Journey

Gold on the Ceiling—The Black Keys

Lido Shuffle—Boz Scaggs

Jive Talkin—The Bee Gees

Keep the Customer Satisfied—Simon and Garfunkel

Freedom—George Michael

Baby Did a Bad Bag Thing—Chris Isaak

Devil Inside—INXS

Stuck in the Middle with You—Stealer’s Wheel

Jungle Love—Steve Miller Band

Nutbush City Limits—Tina Turner

For more blog tour fun, you can go check out what Viv has to say today at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews.

Tomorrow is the last day of our blog tour, and it’s also Viv’s release day!!  Be sure to go over to her blog or say hey to her on Twitter to wish her a happy day.

I can’t really name a particular song, but I am an oldies fan, Moody Blues, Styxs etc. Those types of songs/groups really get me moving. I love both Thea and Vivian’s books. Thanks so much for the fantastic giveaway!

I love listening to music. I don’t have one favorite song. I particularly enjoy bands from the 60s like Herman’s Hermits and The Love Affair and 80s like Phil Collins.

I do love Sexy Back! It really depends on the setting, when I’m very bored and I want to boogy around the room, I love I Like to Move It but King Julian style (from the movie Madagascar). For listening to something energetic whilst chilling/doing stuff, I listen to all sorts, Jig of Life by Kate Bush to a bit of Foo Fighters. For shimmying and shaking to it’s got to be Hey Ya by Outkast.

Well… I’m a child of the 80s so that’s still my favorite decade of music to blast ;) This isn’t necessarily what the kids love most, so it all kind of depends… I guess we all love movie soundtracks like Star Wars though, so those might be what you hear blasting as you drive past our place ;p
