Dark Faerie Tales is excited to be part of the Immortal Hope Blog Tour. We’re celebrating the recent release of Immortal Hope: The Curse of the Templars. Claire is here today to talk about crafting characters and you also have a chance to win a $25 Amazon gift card. As always, details are listed below.
The Fun of Crafting Characters
There’s a broad array of characters in Immortal Hope:
6 Tortured Knights
4 Wiley Archangels
2 Modern Women
1 Random Whore
And a handful of other minor characters who have small roles to play. All of which translates to a lot of work with spreadsheets.
It goes without saying Merrick and Anne were my favorites to craft – they’re the basis of the book. That said, there’s another I’d like to discuss.
Gareth of Aletorp was by far the most fun to craft. He wasn’t supposed to be as amusing as he ended up being. But when he met Anne, a different man appeared than the one who occupied line 15 on my spreadsheet. He’s charming, he’s upbeat, and he’s an insufferable flirt. He allowed me to lighten up some of the darkness when it became oppressive, and I found I had to quickly limit his appearances for fear he’d take over my story.
Here’s a tidbit of his personality, taken from when he’s meeting Anne and they are learning whether or not she bears the mark that would match him as hers. Merrickis observing in the background.
Anne couldn’t help but laugh. “If I didn’t know better, I’d say you’re trying to charm me.”
“But of course. Only a fool would not attempt to win the affection of one so very enchanting.” A grin set off a solitary dimple.
The movement at her side came to an abrupt halt. As Anne bent down to pick up Gareth’s sword, she glanced at Merrickand clamped her teeth down on her lip, silencing another burst of laughter. His glare held the threat of black thunderheads that waited to unleash deadly bolts of lightning, and that baleful look was directed at Gareth. One hand held the pommel of his sword in a death grip. The other worked in agitation at his side, his fingers curling and uncurling, only to repeat the pattern again.
Before he could notice she watched him, she averted her eyes and focused on returning Gareth’s sword. “You, sir, are a flirt.”
Neat white teeth broke through his broad smile as he leapt to his feet and sheathed his weapon. “The better we shall pair then, milady.”
As you can see, he’s undaunted by much of anything.
But Gareth isn’t the only interesting character. All the knights have a spot in my heart, and if you’ve been following the tour you’ve met a few already. There’s plenty more to come as the month winds down, but these short introductions are just a tidbit of what you’ll find in IMMORTAL HOPE

About the Book:
Templar knights defied the archangels and unearthed the copper scroll, revealing the gates to hell. Cursed for their forbidden act, they forever roam the earth protecting mankind from evil. But darkness stalks them, and battles they fight bring them ever-closer to eternal damnation. One promise remains to give them salvation – the return of the seraphs.
Embittered by his purpose, Merrick du Loire must honor an ancient pact and bring peace to his cousin’s soul. When he stumbles upon history professor Anne MacPherson, he discovers she possesses a sacred artifact that marks her as a seraph. Duty demands he set aside his personal quest and locate the knight she’s fated to heal. As he struggles with conflicting oaths, Anne arouses buried hope and sparks forbidden desire that challenges everything he’s sworn to uphold.
Anne has six weeks to complete her thesis on the Knights Templar. WhenMerricktakes her to the Templar stronghold, he presents her with all she needs—and awakens a soul-deep ache, he alone can soothe. Yet lovingMerrickcomes with a price. If she admits she’s destined for him, her gift of foresight predicts his death.
