A Look Forward: Kristie’s 10 Most Anticipated Reads of 2015

January 1st, 2015 Kristie Posted in 12 Days of Christmas 2 Comments »

Happy New Year! I’m really looking forward to trying to tackle my review TBR pile so I technically shouldn’t be adding any new titles to the pile but I always look forward to new books! I tried to pick new series or standalone books but I couldn’t always do that for my very favorite authors. Steph and I have similar tastes in books so I did try to vary my list a bit.  :D

1. The Drafter (Peri Reed Series) by Kim Harrison

I’m so very excited about her new series and I absolutely can’t wait to read it.

2. Soulbound by Kristen Callihan

Soulbound KC

I’m still behind by one book in this series but I really love these books so I always look forward to the newest book in this series.

3. Prudence by Gail Carriger

I’ve only read the first book in the Parasol Protectorate series. I really loved it and can’t wait to finish the series. I love steampunk and really want to read this once I finish the other series.

4. The Return by Jennifer L. Armentrout

The Return

I absolutely love her books and anticipate any new releases she has. I will definitely be picking this up.

5. Trailer Park Fae by Lillith Saintcrow

Trailer Park Fae

I love dark urban fantasy and this one just sounds awesome to me.

6. The Veil by Chloe Neill

The Veil

I haven’t even read the Chicagoland Vampire Series (I do hope I will some day!) but I would love to check out her new series.

7. Menagerie by Rachel Vincent

I’m actually looking forward to both of the books she has coming out this year. I’ve enjoyed her books in the past and can’t wait to see what she has coming up for the future.

8. Shards of Hope by Nalini Singh

Shards of Hope

I’ve heard this is the ending arc of this part of the series. I can’t wait. I absolutely love her books.

9. Bound by Flames by Jeaniene Frost

Bound by Flames

More Vlad! Yes please.  :D

10. A Tie! A Court of Thorn and Roses by Sarah J. Maas & Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

A Court of Thorns and RosesSix of Crows

I discovered both of these authors right around the same time. I really like them both and can’t wait for the different series they have coming out next year.

A Look Forward: Kaitlin’s 10 Most Anticipated Reads of 2015!

December 31st, 2014 Kaitlin Posted in 12 Days of Christmas Comments Off on A Look Forward: Kaitlin’s 10 Most Anticipated Reads of 2015!

2015 looks like it will be a year of many great books. I cannot wait to get my hands on each of these! You might notice that my list is similar to Bridget- we share alike tastes in books!

1. The Start of Me and You by Emery Lord

The Start of Me and You

The cover of this book is what first caught my eye. The beautiful pastel colors instantly drew me in!! This novel has been getting lots of hype and the author’s previous work is very popular, so I definitely want to see what I think!

2. The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black

The Darkest Part of the Forest

Holly Black is a super popular author and I’m interested in reading some of her novels. This one seems like something I’d be interested in, with it’s dark tone and unique plotline. Plus the cover is gorgeous.

3. Ensnared by A.G. Howard

love the Splintered series, with it’s fabulous twisted world and gorgeous writing. The heroine has such a spunky style that the first two books made me fall in love. I already got the chance to read this novel but I can’t wait until I can hold and caress the cover!

4. The Heir by Kiera Cass

The Heir

The Selection series was an awesome trilogy. It was lots of fun and super easy to get into. When I heard the news that we’re getting two full length novels, I was super excited. I got to meet Kiera Cass at a signing and she was super sweet and friendly. I love the cover of The Heir and cannot wait to read this!

5. The Wicked Will Rise by Danielle Paige

The Wicked Will Rise

I love retellings, so the first of the series was super fun. I loved the major twist on a classic tale, making Dorothy evil, and I’m interested to see how the books so on. I have the first one signed!

6. The Sin Eater’s Daughter by Melinda Salisbury

The Sin Eater's Daughter

The cover of the book is gorgeous and instantly intriguing. The plot sounds so unique, I can’t wait to get a gorgeous hardbound copy to display proudly on my shelf. The whole “kill with a touch” sounds like Shatter Me, except-dare I say it-better.

7. Sweet Temptation by Wendy Higgins

Oh, my, god. Kaiden Rowe is one of my favorite characters of all time and I loved the Sweet Evil series. Getting a full length novel, from Kai’s perspective? It’s like a dream. And apparently, it’s the longest of the series so far. It doesn’t even have a cover yet, but I can’t wait to see it!

8. The Replaced by Kimberly Derting

The Replaced

The Taking left off with a major, major cliffhanger. Like intensely huge. Like pull-out-my-hair-until-the-next-book-because-oh-my-god-wow big. I need to know what will happen next like I need air to breathe!

9. The Heart of Betrayal by Mary E. Pearson

The Heart of Betrayal

I loved meeting the author of Heart of Deception and getting my book signed. I’m really hoping she has her release party in San Diego again so I can get my second book signed too! The first book was really good and the twist at the end surprised me.

10. The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

The Wrath & The Dawn

I’m so excited for this final book. I’ve heard amazing things about it from fellow reviewers that say it’s become a new favorite already. The premise is super unique and I am drawn in by the intensity of the plot!

A Look Back: Kaitlin’s Top 10 of 2014

December 31st, 2014 Kaitlin Posted in 12 Days of Christmas Comments Off on A Look Back: Kaitlin’s Top 10 of 2014

2014 has been a year rich with reading for me. I started Dark Faerie Tales late in 2013 and ever since joining the blog, I’ve been reading a lot more to try to keep up with the ever-growing pile of TBR. These are some of my favorites from this year. I kept it to books that I reviewed rather than read for pleasure.

1. Snow Likes Ashes by Sarah Raasch

This debut, even with my high expectations, pleasantly surprised me. I was so amazed by the characters, settings, and world building that I couldn’t help devouring it. I even bought myself a signed copy from Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore! I cannot wait for the second book and to see how the story unfolds.

2. The Jewel by Amy Ewing

The Jewel

Though I had problems with the love interest, I really did enjoy this debut. It was beautifully written and the world was artfully created. Not to mention that cover, look at it! It’s absolutely breathtaking and I don’t know how book 2 ‘s cover will top it. The first book left at a major reveal and I cannot wait to discover more.

3. Strange Sweet Song by Adi Rule

Strange Sweet Song

The writing was so lyrical and wonderful that my attention was captured from page one. I loved Sing’s development and the originality of the story and how the author crafted her own legend.

4. The Dark World by Cara Lynn Shultz

The Dark World

I had heard good things about this author’s previous works and I was impressed by this! A cool plotline and awesome characters, not to mention a cute romance, made me definitely invested in this novel. Personally I don’t believe the cover shows the amazingness of the words inside!

5. Hexed by Michelle Krys

This was a really really good book. I loved the romance and snarky conversations. It was hilarious, through and through. I loved the character development for Indie. I recently read book two as well and I must say it was just as amazing as I expected it to be!

6. A Creature of Moonlight by Rebecca Hahn

A Creature of Moonlight

It was the writing style to this book that captivated me so mud. It was so unique, so utterly unique, and I couldn’t keep from loving it.

7. The Witch Finder by Ruth Warburton

Witch Finder

I remember reading this soon after finishing The Winner’s Curse. I loved that one, but there was something about this book that made me love it more than that one. It was very similar in plot aspects and storyline so I couldn’t help making comparisons as I read it to The Winner’s Curse, but it still blew me away.

8. Switched by Cassie Mae

I really enjoyed this cute, fluffy contemporary. It made me so happy and was a quick little read. I still think about it sometimes, even though I read it so long ago. That’s the mark of a book I really enjoyed!

9. Wicked Games by Sean Olin

Wicked Games

This dark, enthralling book stayed with me for days after. It was engaging and action-packed. The ending was surprising, heartbreaking, and such a twist, bringing the plot full circle. The mystery reigned me in.

10. Death Sworn by Leah Cypess

Death Sworn

This is a smooth blend of mystery, romance, and dark magic. The twist at the end leaves a huge cliffhanger and I haven’t managed to get my hands on the second, unfortunately.
