Cover Reveal: Valkyrie Rising by Ingrid Paulson

March 5th, 2012 Angela Posted in Author Spotlight 1 Comment »

Dark Faerie tales is pleased to present the official cover launch for Valkyrie Rising by Ingrid Paulson, which releases on October 9, 2012 from Harper Teen.

This debut is about a girl who learns she is a Valkyrie descended from Norse Gods, and when her older brother is kidnapped, she and his annoying but gorgeous best friend have to get to Valhalla and get past Odin and his undead army to save him – and the world.

Available on October 9, 2012 from HarperCollins/Harper Teen

About the Book:

Nothing ever happens in Norway. But at least Ellie knows what to expect when she visits her grandmother: a tranquil fishing village and long, slow summer days. And maybe she’ll finally get out from under the shadow of her way-too-perfect big brother, Graham, while she’s there.

What Ellie doesn’t anticipate is Graham’s infuriating best friend, Tuck, tagging along for the trip. Nor did she imagine boys going missing amid rumors of impossible kidnappings. Least of all does she expect something powerful and ancient to awaken in her and that strange whispers would urge Ellie to claim her place among mythological warriors. Instead of peace and quiet, there’s suddenly there’s a lot for a girl from L.A. to handle on a summer sojourn in Norway! And when Graham vanishes, it’s up to Ellie—and the ever-sarcastic, if undeniably alluring Tuck—to uncover the truth about all the disappearances and thwart the nefarious plan behind them.

Deadly legends, hidden identities, and tentative romance swirl together in one girl’s unexpectedly-epic coming of age.

Cover Reveal: Silver by Talia Vance

February 13th, 2012 Angela Posted in Author Spotlight 8 Comments »

Dark Faerie tales is pleased to present the cover launch for Silver by Talia Vance, which releases this year from Flux Books. Click here to view a larger image.

Once titled BANDIA, this story is rooted in Celtic mythology, a story of forbidden love, as a girl discovers too late that she’s descended from a deadly Irish goddess, having accidentally bound her soul to the hot guy whose tribe is sworn to destroy her; falling for the one boy it would kill her to love, and with her survival depending on his death, she must find a way to break the power of her dark inheritance.

About the Book:

Beauty is pointless when no one’s looking.

Brianna Paxton has been invisible to guys since the eighth grade. She’s pretty enough, it’s just that no one bothers to look. There’s almost nothing that can’t be explained with science, and Brianna has a theory: she’s missing the pheromone that attracts people to one another. Brianna’s theory is shot to hell in one frozen, silver moment, when time stops and Blake Williams not only sees her, he recognizes something inside her that she’s been hiding from even herself.

Before Brianna fully understands who and what she is, she accidentally binds her soul to Blake. Forced to find a way to reconcile forbidden love and her bloody heritage, Brianna discovers that there’s nothing pointless about her, and Blake may be in the most danger of all.

About Amanda:

I live in Minnesota with my dog, two cats, two fish, a turtle, and my roommate/assistant/platonic lifemate, Eric. I actually live in Austin, a.k.a. SPAMTown, USA. They invented SPAM here, and the town is quite proud of it.

I do many things, most of them lame and boring, but the thing I get paid to do is write young adult books.

All three books in my Trylle Trilogy -SwitchedTorn, and Ascend - were originally self-published, but will be re-released with St. Martin’s and Pan Macmillan internationally with new bonus content starting on January 3, 2012. The trilogy has also made the USA Today Bestseller list and was recently optioned for a film by Media Rights Capitalwith District 9 screenwriter Terri Tatchelladapting the books for screen.

St. Martin’s and Pan Macmillan recently acquired my new young adult four-book seriesWatersong, with the first book Wake coming out in August 2012. My zombie series, The Hollows, is being adapted into a graphic novel by Dynamite.

I also enjoy Red Bull, Jim Henson, Batman, Jane Austen, Star Wars legos, and I absolutely hate long walks on the beach out of my intense fear/hatred of wet sand.

My favorite authors are Kurt Vonnegut, Chuck Palahniuk, Bret Easton Ellis, Alan Moore, and J. D. Salinger, but I don’t write anything like them.

I have an obsession with River Phoenix, and I’ve seen Silence of the Lambs more than any other movie, even The Dark Knight. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen every American movie that came out between 1980 and 1990, and I’ve loved them all. My favorite movies areThe Dark KnightLabyrinthThe CrowUpMy Own Private IdahoPretty in Pink, Empire Strikes BackBack to the Future II, and American Psycho.

Author Spotlight: Bound by Darkness by Alexandra Ivy

November 18th, 2011 Angela Posted in Author Spotlight Comments Off

Open Road Media just released a video featuring author Deborah Raleigh talking about her pen name (and alter ego) Alexandra Ivy and how she juggles these two very different writing styles.  Alexandra’s upcoming release is Bound By Darkness, which is the eighth installment in her Guardians of Eternity paranormal romance series.

About Alexandra:

I’m not exactly sure when I fell in love with books.  Probably on my mother’s knee listening to her read Dr. Seuss to me.  I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library.  Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries?  Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few.  I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays.  In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on.

Years later (no, I’m not admitting how many) I’m still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy.   For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold!

I do have a few other loves in my life besides reading and writing, the most important being my unbelievably patient husband, David, and my two sons, Chance and Alexander.  Without their constant support and belief in me, I never could have been able to follow my dreams.  They are truly my heroes.
