Some create arts we haven’t thought of and some resurrect arts buried in the depths of the past.  And yet, all of these offerings celebrate the creative process, which makes them a fitting theme to launch Penumbra–an enterprise that will showcase the creative work of speculative fiction authors each month with a new collection of works within the genre.

Publishing News: Philippa Gregory Signs Major Young Adult Deal

September 18th, 2011 Angela Posted in Publishing News 1 Comment »

Fans of author Philippa Gregory will be pleased to know that she just signed a deal to write four young adult historical romance titles. More details to be found in the official press release below.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

PHILIPPA GREGORY SIGNS MAJOR YOUNG ADULT

INTERNATIONAL PUBLISHING DEAL WITH SIMON & SCHUSTER

New York, NY, Thursday, September 15, 2011 – Philippa Gregory, the #1 international bestselling author of The Other Boleyn Girl and The Red Queen will publish her first-ever young adult titles under a new global publishing agreement with Simon & Schuster.

Ingrid Selberg, Director of Children’s Publishing for Simon & Schuster UK, and Jon Anderson, Executive Vice President and Publisher of Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing have jointly acquired world rights to four young adult historical romance titles from Philippa Gregory Limited via Anthony Mason. The books will be edited by Venetia Gosling, Fiction Editorial Director at S&S UK Children’s, with the first title planned for publication in hardcover in summer 2012.

Philippa Gregory is a leading writer of historical fiction and one of Simon & Schuster’s most successful authors on the global publishing scene. A mega-bestselling adult author under the Simon & Schuster Touchstone imprint, Philippa Gregory’s books have nearly 9 million copies in print. Her Tudor and The Cousins’ War novels have all made the New York Times Bestseller list with The Other Boleyn Girl reaching the #1 spot. Her hugely successful Tudor series was adapted as a hit TV drama in 2007 and The Other Boleyn Girl was made into a major film in 2008.

The new deal sees the Philippa Gregory brand being extended to a new generation of readers, bringing her historical expertise and critically acclaimed storytelling to a younger audience. The books will receive a coordinated worldwide publication in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and India, and in tandem with her adult fiction (for which Gregory signed a new three book deal with Simon & Schuster in October 2010), with a comprehensive marketing and publicity campaign across both lists. The books will be published by the Simon Pulse imprint in the Unites States.

“I am delighted to move into a new form of writing,” said Philippa Gregory, “I know I have many young readers already and it will be a pleasure to write a series especially for them. Bringing history alive is a great joy and to bring it to a young generation doubly so.”

Jon Anderson added: “Philippa Gregory is the gold standard for historical fiction. These books are an irresistible combination that will introduce a whole new group of readers to Philippa Gregory, and we look forward to working closely with Philippa to make this new venture a great success.”

News Alert: HarperCollins New Global Imprint

September 5th, 2010 Angela Posted in Publishing News Comments Off

I received this interesting bit of news a few days ago from HarperCollins.  I think this is certainly a bold move and it’s actually pretty interesting.  I’m sure it will be a complete success.  As a reader, I know I’m definitely looking forward to getting more exposure to some of their other writers. I’ve always loved their Eos imprint.  What do you guys think?

HARPERCOLLINS TO CREATE

GLOBAL SCIENCE FICTION & FANTASY PROGRAM

UNDER VOYAGER IMPRINT

U.S., UK, and Australia Join Together to Form Global Imprint

NEW YORK, NY (September 3, 2010) – Announced today at Aussiecon IV (the 68th World Science Fiction Convention), Eos Books, a U.S. imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, will be rebranded as Harper Voyager, joining together with the celebrated Voyager imprints in Australia/New Zealand and the UK. The move is anticipated to create a global genre-fiction powerhouse.

“We are already globally publishing some of the biggest names in science fiction, fantasy, urban fantasy, and horror, including Raymond E. Feist, Robin Hobb, Kim Harrison, and Sara Douglass,” said Brian Murray, President and Chief Executive Officer of HarperCollins Worldwide.  “Uniting our sister companies in the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia/New Zealand allows readers globally unparalleled access to books and authors. This move enables us to offer authors a strong  global publishing platform when signing with HarperCollins – whether the acquiring editor is in New York, Sydney, or London.”

The Voyager/Harper Voyager editorial leaders are: Executive Editor Diana Gill in the U.S., Editorial Director Emma Coode in the UK (working with Publishing Director Jane Johnson), and Associate Publisher Stephanie Smith in Australia.

Each country has a vibrant, robust list of science fiction and fantasy icons; merging the lists under one imprint will bring readers around the world access to the masters of these fiction genres.

Two authors, Karen Azinger and David Wellington (writing as David Chandler), have recently been signed and are expected to publish with Harper Voyager and Voyager for a worldwide debut.

The Eos imprint will officially change to Harper Voyager starting with the January 2011 hardcover, trade, mass market, e-book, and audio publications.

A young prisoner, Finn, has haunting visions of an earlier life, and cannot believe he was born here and has always been here. In the outer world, Claudia, daughter of the Warden of Incarceron, is trapped in her own form of prison — a futuristic world constructed beautifully to look like a past era, an imminent marriage she dreads. She knows nothing of Incarceron, except that it exists. Shiarra has signed on to work for a high-level mage to recover an ancient artifact owned by one of New York’s most powerful vampires.

As soon as Shiarra meets scary, mesmerizing vamp Alec Royce, she knows her assignment is even more complicated than she thought. All her parents wanted was for Eryn to live a normal life…

Redgrave had its share of monsters before Eryn moved to town. Mauled pets, missing children. The Delacroix family is taking the blame, but Eryn knows the truth. Something stalks the night. Wade, the police chief’s son and Redgrave High’s resident hottie, warns her the Delacroix are dangerous. But then so is Eryn–in fact, she’s lethal.

But she can’t help falling for one of the Delacroix boys, dark, brooding–human Alec. And then her world falls apart.

A normal life? Now that’s the real fairytale.
