Trailer Thursday: White Cat by Holly Black

April 8th, 2010 Angela Posted in Trailer Thursday Comments Off on Trailer Thursday: White Cat by Holly Black

The Curse Workers is a new series coming from Holly Black.  The first book in the series is The White Cat, and is scheduled to be released May 4, 2010.  I really love the cover art and the trailer.

You can visit Holly around the web here: Website | Blog | Twitter

Synopsis (Product Description):

Cassel comes from a family of curse workers — people who have the power to change your emotions, your memories, your luck, by the slightest touch of their hands. And since curse work is illegal, they’re all mobsters, or con artists. Except for Cassel. He hasn’t got the magic touch, so he’s an outsider, the straight kid in a crooked family. You just have to ignore one small detail — he killed his best friend, Lila, three years ago.

Ever since, Cassel has carefully built up a façade of normalcy, blending into the crowd. But his façade starts crumbling when he starts sleepwalking, propelled into the night by terrifying dreams about a white cat that wants to tell him something. He’s noticing other disturbing things, too, including the strange behavior of his two brothers. They are keeping secrets from him, caught up in a mysterious plot. As Cassel begins to suspect he’s part of a huge con game, he also wonders what really happened to Lila. Could she still be alive? To find that out, Cassel will have to out-con the conmen.

Holly Black has created a gripping tale of mobsters and dark magic where a single touch can bring love — or death — and your dreams might be more real than your memories.

Trailer Thursday: The Shadows by Jacqueline West

April 1st, 2010 Angela Posted in Trailer Thursday Comments Off on Trailer Thursday: The Shadows by Jacqueline West

Jacqueline West’s debut novel, The Shadows is scheduled to be released on June 15, 2010.  This series  looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun.  Visit the book site here for more details.

You can visit Jacqueline around the web here: Website | Blog

Synopsis (Product Description):

Old Ms. McMartin is definitely dead. Now her crumbling Victorian mansion lies vacant. When eleven-year-old Olive and her dippy mathematician parents move in, she knows there’s something odd about the place—not least the walls covered in strange antique paintings. But when Olive finds a pair of old spectacles in a dusty drawer, she discovers the most peculiar thing yet: She can travel inside these paintings to a world that’s strangely quiet . . . and eerily like her own Yet Elsewhere harbors dark secrets—and Morton, an undersized boy with an outsize temper.

As she and Morton form an uneasy alliance, Olive finds herself ensnared in a plan darker and more dangerous than she could have imagined, confronting a power that wants to be rid of her by any means necessary. It’s up to Olive to save the house from the dark shadows, before the lights go out for good.

March 19th, 2010 Angela Posted in Trailer Thursday 1 Comment »

Andrea Cremer unveiled the cover art for her debut young adult novel, Nightshade.  The book is scheduled to be released on October 14, 2010.  I wish that I had a bigger image for the cover because it’s ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.  The second book in the Nightshade series is Wolfsbane, which will be released in 2011.  You can view the trailer here.

Visit Andrea around the web here: Website | Blog | Twitter

Synopsis (Product Description):

While other teenage girls daydream about boys, Calla Tor imagines ripping out her enemies’ throats. And she wouldn’t have it any other way. Calla was born a warrior and on her eighteenth-birthday she’ll become the alpha female of the next generation of Guardian wolves. But Calla’s predestined path veers off course the moment she saves the life of a wayward hiker, a boy her own age. This human boy’s secret will turn the young pack’s world upside down and forever alter the outcome of the centuries-old Witches’ War that surrounds them all.

Trailer Thursday: Mistwood by Leah Cypess

March 4th, 2010 Angela Posted in Trailer Thursday 1 Comment »

Mistwood by Leah Cypess is scheduled to be released on April 27, 2010.  Not sure if this will be a series, but I’m looking forward to reading this book.

You can visit Leah around the web here: Website

Synopsis (Product Description):

The Shifter is an immortal creature bound by an ancient spell to protect the kings of Samorna. When the realm is peaceful, she retreats to the Mistwod.

But when she is needed she always comes.

Isabel remembers nothing. Nothing before the prince rode into her forest to take her back to the castle. Nothing about who she is supposed to be, or the powers she is supposed to have.

Prince Rokan needs Isabel to be his Shifter. He needs her ability to shift to animal form, to wind, to mist. He needs her lethal speed and superhuman strength. And he needs her loyalty–because without it, she may be his greatest threat.

Isabel knows that her prince is lying to her, but she can’t help wanting to protect him from the dangers and intrigues of the court . . . until a deadly truth shatters the bond between them.

Now Isabel faces a choice that threatens her loyalty, her heart . . . and everything she thought she knew.
