Waiting on Wednesday: Confess by Colleen Hoover!

January 28th, 2015 Kaitlin Posted in Waiting on Wednesday Comments Off on Waiting on Wednesday: Confess by Colleen Hoover!

ConfessI decided after reading this that I couldn’t do a review. There was simply so much I wanted to talk about but 75 percent of those things were spoilers and I didn’t want to accidentally spoil, of course.

But I needed to find another way to feature this gorgeous book, which I got in ARC form from Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore — check them out.

Thus, a Waiting on Wednesday post. (“Waiting on Wednesday” is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine)

This book is amazing, everyone. It’s the perfect mix of happy and sad, angry and lovable, among numerous other emotions for which I have no name. Before reading this I had never read a Hoover book, and gosh, I am so thankful I did.

The plotline sounds fine in the blurb, but reading it? There are so many twists that you don’t see coming and they made the plot so much richer, so that it seemed more than a contemporary.

The whole idea of an art studio where you can drop anonymous confessions that inspire an author’s work really sparked my interest. As did the first chapter, where her boyfriend is dying. It definitely started off with a bang.

The writing is meaningful and unique, beautiful and startlingly heart-wrenching in its truth.

I’d recommend you checked out Confess when it comes out!

Waiting on Wednesday: Fallen Angel by Heather Terrell

August 4th, 2010 Angela Posted in Waiting on Wednesday 2 Comments »

Waiting on Wednesday was started by Jill over at Breaking the Spine.

Fallen Angel by Heather Terrell is scheduled to be released on December 28, 2010.  This is the first book in a dark and gothic series in which a young girl is embroiled in a deadly game of blood lust and biblical myth.  I think this is a great cover.  I’m definitely going to add this to my reading list.  I’m interested in seeing what the author does with the angel mythology.

Synopsis (Product Description):

The first book in a dark, edgy new angel series about a girl who finds herself forced to choose sides in the battle between fallen angels, even if that means going against the boy she loves.

When Ellie Faneuil first sees Michael Chase she feels an instantaneous connection. But she does not realize how much they have in common, including the ability fly and to see what others are thinking – not to mention a taste for blood. Reveling in their new powers and their growing feelings for each other, Ellie and Michael are determined to uncover what they are, and how they got this way.. together.

But the truth has repercussions neither could have imagined. Soon they find themselves center stage in an ancient conflict between fallen angels that threatens to destroy everything they love. And it is no longer clear whether Ellie and Michael will choose the same side.

In this electrifying novel Heather Terrell spins a gripping tale of soul-mates, supernatural powers and a truth that will change Ellie and Michael‘s world forever.

Waiting on Wednesday: Nightshade by Michelle Rowen

July 28th, 2010 Angela Posted in Waiting on Wednesday 8 Comments »

Waiting on Wednesday was started by Jill over at Breaking the Spine.

Nightshade by Michelle Rowen is scheduled to be released on February 1, 2011.  This is the first book in her new urban fantasy Jillian Conrad series.  I really like the cover and the book synopsis has me intrigued.  I’m definitely going to add this to my reading list.

Synopsis (Product Description):

Jillian Conrad never believed in vampires. But she’s just become a living, breathing weapon against them. Attacked by a desperate scientist, she is injected with a serum that was supposed to act as a deadly poison to vampires. And when the scientist is gunned down in front of her, his secrets die with him.

Declan Reyes was only half-vampire, but he hates them with all his heart. He knows that the poison in Jillian’s veins could finally destroy the undead kingdom. Also, the serum has had an unintended effect, making her blood irresistible to all vampires—including Declan, whose bloodthirsty traits are driven into a frenzy by her.

Driven by duty to protect her and by instinct to crave her, Declan takes Jillian into his shadowy world of blood and battle. But he soon realizes his increasing need for her may be a different kind of hunger…

July 14th, 2010 Angela Posted in Waiting on Wednesday 4 Comments »

Waiting on Wednesday was started by Jill over at Breaking the Spine.

Blood & Flowers by Penny Blubaugh is scheduled to be released on March 1, 2011.  This cover is simply stunning.  I really love it and this book sounds AMAZING!  I’m definitely going to add this to my reading list.

Synopsis (Product Description):

Three years ago, Persia ran away from her drug-addict parents and found a home with the Outlaws, an underground theater troupe. With time, this motley band of mortals and fey, puppeteers and actors, becomes the loving family Persia never had, and soon Persia not only discovers a passion for theater but also falls in love with one of the other Outlaws. Life could not be more perfect.

Until an enemy makes an unfair accusation against the group and forces them to flee their world and hide in the neighboring realm of Faerie. But in Faerie, all is not flowers and rainbows. With bloodthirsty trolls, a hostile monarchy, and a dangerous code of magic, the fey world is far from the safe haven the Outlaws had hoped for….

Waiting on Wednesday: Shadow Walker by L.A. Banks

July 7th, 2010 Angela Posted in Waiting on Wednesday 5 Comments »

Waiting on Wednesday was started by Jill over at Breaking the Spine.

Shadow Walker is the first book in a new young adult series by L.A. Banks.  The book is scheduled to be released in November 2010.  I really like this cover and the series sounds promising.

Synopsis (Product Description):

Set in a post-apocalyptic world following the Armageddon, in Shadow Walker, the teenage children of the world’s Guardians of the Light must learn to hone their extra-sensory talents to one day join in the battle with their parents.

While they are secreted away in the Temt Tchaas Academy, (aka Neteru Academy), these students must learn to fight evil as well as learn to resist the temptation of fighting with each other. Although these young people have super powers, they still struggle with the same dramas and insecurities like any other high school student – and just because their parents may be superhuman doesn’t mean their parents are perfect. Far from it. That only makes life more confusing, as peer pressure, budding romances, decisions about whether or not to snitch, or whether or not to use one’s supernatural gifts for personal gain must be sorted out.

In this coming of age story, Sarah Rivera and her twin brother, Alejandro, must figure out when to use their wings or fangs, how to get along with their compound siblings, how to fit in with others in a huge new school, and perhaps most importantly, how to pick their battles to always fight for what is right.
