Waiting on Wednesday: Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton

June 30th, 2010 Angela Posted in Waiting on Wednesday 3 Comments »

Waiting on Wednesday was started by Jill over at Breaking the Spine.

Angelfire is the first book in Courtney Allison Moulton’s Angelfire series. The book is scheduled to be released on February 15, 2011.  Angelfire will be followed by Wings of the Wicked in 2012 and Hymn to the Fallen in 2013.  I’m really looking forward to reading this debut book.  I think the cover is great.

Synopsis (Product Description):

When seventeen-year-old Ellie starts seeing reapers–monstrous creatures who devour humans and send their souls to Hell–she finds herself on the front lines of a supernatural war between Seraphim and the Fallen and faced with the possible destruction of her soul.

A mysterious boy named Will reveals she is the reincarnation of an ancient warrior, the only one capable of fighting the reapers, and he is an immortal sworn to protect her in battle. Now that Ellie’s powers have been awakened, a powerful reaper called Bastian has come forward to challenge her. He has employed a fierce assassin to eliminate her–an assassin who has already killed her once.

While balancing her dwindling social life and reaper-hunting extracurriculars, she and Will discover Bastian is searching for a dormant creature believed to be a true soul reaper. Bastian plans to use this weapon to destroy Ellie’s soul forever, ending her rebirth cycle. Now, she must face an army of Bastian’s most frightening reapers, prevent the soul reaper from consuming her soul, and uncover the secrets of her past lives–including truths that may be too frightening to remember.

Waiting on Wednesday: Zombies vs. Unicorns Anthology

May 19th, 2010 Angela Posted in Waiting on Wednesday 4 Comments »

Waiting on Wednesday was started by Jill over at Breaking the Spine.

Zombies vs. Unicorns is scheduled to be released on September 21, 2010.  I’m really looking forward to this anthology.  I love this classic cover.  I think it’s perfect.  I’m so Team Unicorn!!

Synopsis (Product Description):

It’s a question as old as time itself: which is better, the zombie or the unicorn? In this anthology, edited by Holly Black and Justine Larbalestier (unicorn and zombie, respectively), strong arguments are made for both sides in the form of short stories. Half of the stories portray the strengths–for good and evil–of unicorns and half show the good (and really, really bad-ass) side of zombies. Contributors include many bestselling teen authors, including Cassandra Clare, Libba Bray, Maureen Johnson, Meg Cabot, Scott Westerfeld, and Margo Lanagan. This anthology will have everyone asking: Team Zombie or Team Unicorn?

Waiting on Wednesday was started by Jill over at Breaking the Spine.

The Candidates, by Inara Scott is scheduled to be released on August 24, 2010.  I’m adding this to my reading pile because I’ve heard good things about it.  I also love the cover.

You can visit Inara around the web here: Website | Blog

Synopsis (Product Description):

Dancia Lewis is far from popular. And that’s not just because of her average grades or her less-than-glamorous wardrobe. In fact, Dancia’s mediocrity is a welcome cover for her secret: whenever she sees a person threatening someone she cares about, things just…happen. Cars skid. Structures collapse. Usually someone gets hurt.  So Dancia does everything possible to avoid getting close to anyone, belieiving this way she can supress her powers and keep them hidden.

But when recruiters from the prestigious Delcroix Academy show up in her living room to offer her a full scholarship, Dancia’s days of living under the radar may be over. Only, Delcroix is a school for diplomats’ kids and child geniuses–not B students with uncontrollable telekinetic tendencies.  So why are they treating Dancia like she’s special? Even the hottest guy on campus seems to be going out of his way to make Dancia feel welcome. And then there’s her mysterious new friend Jack, who can’t stay out of trouble. He suspects something dangerous is going on at the Academy and wants Dancia to help him figure out what.  But Dancia isn’t convinced. She hopes that maybe the recruiters know more about her “gift” than they’re letting on. Maybe they can help her understand how to use it…But not even Dancia could have imagined what awaits her behind the gates of Delcroix Academy.

Synopsis (Product Description):

After a close encounter with the front end of a school bus, Alona Dare goes from Homecoming Queen to Queen of the Dead. Now she’s stuck here in spirit form with no sign of the big, bright light coming to take her away. To make matters worse, the only person who might be able to help her is Will Killian, a total loser/outcast type who hates the social elite. He alone can see and hear her, but he wants nothing to do with the former mean girl of Groundsboro High.

Can they get over their mutual distrust—and this weird attraction between them—to work together before Alona vanishes for good and Will is locked up for seeing things that don’t exist?

Waiting on Wednesday: Empty by Suzanne Weyn

April 21st, 2010 Angela Posted in Waiting on Wednesday Comments Off on Waiting on Wednesday: Empty by Suzanne Weyn

Waiting on Wednesday was started by Jill over at Breaking the Spine.

Empty, by Suzanne Weyn is scheduled to be released on October 1, 2010. Sounds like an interesting read.  I’m going to add it to my dystopian reading pile..

You can visit Suzanne around the web here: Website

Synopsis (Product Description):

It’s the near future – the very near future – and the fossil fuels are running out. No gas. No oil. Which means no driving. No heat. Supermarkets are empty. Malls have shut down. Life has just become more local than we ever knew it could be.

Nobody expected the end to come this fast. And in the small town of Spring Valley, decisions that once seemed easy are quickly becoming matters of life and death. There is hope – there has to be hope – just there are also sacrifices that need to be made, and a whole society that needs to be rethought.

Teens like Nicki, Tom, and Leila may find what they need to survive. But their lives are never going to be the same again.
