Taking Cover: 12 Hot New Covers!

I’ve rounded up another batch of covers to share with everyone.  First up is the beautiful cover art for The Girl in the Steel Corset.  I just started reading this book and it’s so good.  This is the first book in the Steampunk Chronicles series by Kady Cross, a.k.a. Kathryn Smith.  The book is scheduled to be released on May 24, 2011.  I really love this cover.

Synopsis (Product Description):

She thought there was something wrong with her. She was right.

Finley Jayne has known for quite some time that she isn’t ‘normal,’ but when she beats up the son of her employer and is forced to flee, she stumbles into a world where there are bigger freaks than her. They take her in, treat her like family and demand her trust. How can Finley trust them when she can’t trust herself? And why is she drawn to the powerful Griffin as well as the dangerous Jack? She has to get herself under control before she gets into trouble she can’t get out of.

Griffin King is one of the most powerful men in Britain but he couldn’t save his best friend from almost dying. He is determined to save Finley and help her become the person he knows she can be, but there’s evil afoot in London. Machines have attacked humans under the orders of a nefarious criminal called The Machinist. He has sworn to protect his country against such a threat, but he’s never faced any foe like this. However, when he discovers The Machinist’s connection to his past, Griffin vows to end the villain once and for all — but he’ll need the help of all his friends, including the beautiful Finley Jayne – the girl in the steel corset.

Here is the cover art for A Beautiful Dark by debut author Jocelyn Davies, which will hit shelves later this year.  I think this will be a series.  I’ve had this book on my Books to Watch list for awhile.  I’m definitely looking forward to read this one.  I like this cover as well.

Synopsis (Product Description):

Skye never questioned the story of her life. Her Aunt Jo adopted her after the death of her parents when she was just a child, and together they flip through memories the way some people flip through photo albums.

She never questioned if the stories were true.

Until the night of her 17th birthday, when the arrival of two strangers intrudes on her cozy life. Polar opposites, like fire and ice, Asher is dark and wild, while Devin is fair, cold, and aloof. Skye has no idea what they want—only that their presence coincides with the beginning of some shockingly strange events. Events that Skye, if she dares to think it, might be responsible for causing.

High up in the mountains of Boulder, Colorado, Skye finds herself caught in the middle of an ancient battle, one that began untold millennia ago. Torn between unpredictable Asher, whom she loves, and the infuriating Devin, who she can’t stay away from, her fate is murky as a starless night. And as the secrets of her true identity are revealed, Skye realizes that her destiny may reside in the Heavens—or somewhere darker.

Here is the cover art for The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter, which is the first book in her Goddess Test series.  The book is scheduled to be released on April 19, 2011.  I’m already intrigued by the synopsis.  I love Greek mythology so I’m adding this one to my reading list.  This is a truly beautiful cover.  The art department over at Harlequin Teen is fantastic.

Synopsis (Product Description):

Every girl who has taken the test has died.

Now it’s Kate’s turn.

It’s always been just Kate and her mom–and now her mother is dying. Her last wish? To move back to her childhood home. So Kate’s going to start at a new school with no friends, no other family and the fear her mother won’t live past the fall.

Then she meets Henry. Dark. Tortured. And mesmerizing. He claims to be Hades, god of the Underworld–and if she accepts his bargain, he’ll keep her mother alive while Kate tries to pass seven tests.

Kate is sure he’s crazy–until she sees him bring a girl back from the dead. Now saving her mother seems crazily possible. If she succeeds, she’ll become Henry’s future bride, and a goddess.

If she fails…

Here is the cover art for Green Eyed Envy by Kasey MacKenzie, which is the second book in her Shades of Fury urban fantasy series.  The book is scheduled to be released on June 28, 2011.  This is a pretty cool cover.  I really like both covers for this series.

Synopsis (Product Description):

Jealousy can be a killer…

As a Fury, Marissa Holloway belongs to an Arcane race that has meted out justice since time immemorial. As Boston’s chief magical investigator, it’s her duty to solve any crimes committed by or against supernaturals.

Months have gone by since Riss discovered some unwelcome truths about her past–and managed to stop a supernatural war. Since then things have been quiet. Too quiet. But that all changes when the bodies of Bastai, shapeshifters also known as Cats, begin piling up in Boston’s magical  underbelly–even though the legendary shifters are supposed to have ninety-nine lives.

One common thread ties the victims together: all were old flames of FBI Agent Harper Cruz. And since Harper and Riss’s lover Scott Murphy enjoyed a one-night stand before he and Riss reunited, the Fury has twice the incentive to crack the case wide open, before the killer’s green-eyed gaze turns in Scott’s direction…

Sophie Jordan finally released the cover art for Vanish, which is the second book in her Firelight series.  WOW!  This is such as stunning cover.  I highly recommend this series.  Firelight is a beautifully crafted story and Ms. Jordan is an amazing writer.  I can’t believe that I still have to wait so long to read this book.  Vanish is scheduled to be released on September 6, 2011.

Synopsis (Product Description):

To save the life of the boy she loves, Jacinda did the unthinkable: She betrayed the most closely-guarded secret of her kind. Now she must return to the protection of her pride knowing she might never see Will again—and worse, that because his mind has been shaded, Will’s memories of that fateful night and why she had to flee are gone.

Back home, Jacinda is greeted with hostility and must work to prove her loyalty for both her sake and her family’s. Among the few who will even talk to her are Cassian, the pride’s heir apparent who has always wanted her, and her sister, Tamra, who has been forever changed by a twist of fate. Jacinda knows that she should forget Will and move on—that if he managed to remember and keep his promise to find her, it would only endanger them both. Yet she clings to the hope that someday they will be together again. When the chance arrives to follow her heart, will she risk everything for love?

But now, Hailey is finally getting a chance at a normal life. Here is the cover art for Tris & Izzie by Mette Ivie Harrison.  The book is scheduled to be released on October 11, 2011.  Sounds like an interesting premise.  There are so many great covers for 2011 books.  I really like this one as well.  It’s colorful and romantic.  I like re-tellings and I’m familiar with the original story of Tristan and Isolde.

Synopsis (Product Description):

A modern retelling of the German legend “Tristan and Isolde”, “Tris and Izzy”, is about a young witch named Izzie who is dating Mark King, the captain of the basketball team and thinks her life is going swimmingly well. Beth Fantaskey revealed the cover art for Jessica Rules the Dark Side, which is the second book in her Jessica series.  The book is scheduled to be released on January 9, 2012.  That’s a long way off, but I’m sure it’s worth it.  I loved the first book, Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side.  The cover for the new book is so pretty.  Purple is my favorite color and I love her dress.

Synopsis (Product Description):

When Jessica Packwood found out she was a Romanian vampire princess, she had the shock of her teenage life. Turns out that was the easy part. Now, married to Prince Lucius Vladescu, she has to claim her throne and convince a vampire nation she’s fit to be their queen. But Jess can’t even order a decent meal from her castle’s Romanian staff, let alone deal with devious undead subjects who would love to see her fail.

And when Lucius is accused of murdering a vampire Elder and imprisoned without the blood he needs, Jessica finds herself alone, fighting for both their survivals.

Desperate to clear her husband’s name and win his release, Jess enlists the help of her best friend Mindy Stankowicz and Lucius’s mysterious Italian cousin, Raniero Lovatu. But both of them are keeping some dark secrets. Can Jess figure out who to trust – and how to rise to power – before she loses everything, including the vampire she loves?

Full of romance, mystery, and danger, the highly anticipated sequel to Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side shows that sometimes a princess has to earn her “happily ever after” – with a sharpened stake in hand.

Gretchen McNeil unveiled the cover art for Possess, which is the first book in her new young adult series.  This is a very striking cover.  It has a bit of a creepy feel to it.  Looking forward to reading this one.  The book is scheduled to be released on August 23, 2011.

Synopsis (Product Description):

Fifteen-year-old Bridget Liu just wants to be left alone: by her overprotective mom, by the hunky son of the police officer who got her father killed, and by the eerie voices which she can suddenly and inexplicably hear. Turns out the voices are demons–the Biblical kind, not the Buffy kind–and Bridget possesses the rare ability to banish them.

San Francisco’s senior exorcist and his newly assigned partner from the Vatican enlist Bridget’s help with increasingly bizarre and dangerous cases of demonic possession. But when one of Bridget’s oldest friends turns up dead in a ritualistic sacrifice that mirrors her father’s murder, Bridget realizes she can’t trust anyone. An interview with her father’s murderer reveals a link between Bridget and the Emim: a race of part-demons intent on raising their forefathers to the earth in human form. Now Bridget must unlock the secret to the Emim’s plan before someone else close to her winds up dead, or worse–the human vessel for a Demon Kin
