Taking Cover: 14 Hot New Covers

I have a lot of great covers to share with everyone.  First up is the gorgeous cover for Swear by Nina Malkin.  Nina unveiled the stunning cover for the second book in her Swoon series.  The book is scheduled to hit shelves on September 6, 2011.

Synopsis (Product Description):

A promise broken. A bond betrayed. It’s been six months since ghost-turned golem Sinclair Youngblood Powers confessed his love, stole Dice’s heart, and disappeared from Swoon, perhaps from existence. Despite the hurt, Dice has been moving steadily toward ordinary. Dreams of Sin still plague and pleasure her sleep, and the mark of Sin’s love remains on her skin, still sore. But Dice has been throwing herself into music, finding solace in song and sometimes even in the arms of her band mate, Tosh. Life seems almost…normal. The last thing Dice wants is to mess with anything remotely supernatural. But when her best friend’s boyfriend goes missing, Dice has no choice but to become very much involved. She knows that his disappearance was no accident, and it somehow has everything to do with Sin. Because Dice can feel it: Sin is back. And the promises and deceptions he left in his wake have returned to haunt him.

What do you do when an oath of devotion threatens to destroy the one you love?

Chloe Neill unveiled the cover art for Drink Deep, which is the fifth book in her Chicagoland Vampire series. The book is scheduled to be released in November 2011.  I’ve read the first book in this series and really enjoyed it.  I also like the style of the first two books in this series better.

Synopsis (Product Description):

Clouds are brewing over Cadogan House, and recently turned vampire Merit can’t tell if this is the darkness before the dawn or the calm before the storm. With the city itself in turmoil over paranormals and the state threatening to pass a paranormal registration act, times haven’t been this precarious for vampires since they came out of the closet. If only they could lay low for a bit, and let the mortals calm down.

That’s when the waters of Lake Michigan suddenly turn pitch black-and things really start getting ugly.

Chicago’s mayor insists it’s nothing to worry about, but Merit knows only the darkest magic could have woven a spell powerful enough to change the very fabric of nature. She’ll have to turn to friends old and new to find out who’s behind this, and stop them before it’s too late for vampires and humans alike.

Tricia Rayburn unveiled the cover art for Undercurrent, which is the second book in her Siren series.  The book is scheduled to be released on July 12, 2011.  I think this is a really beautiful cover.

Deborah Cooke unveiled the cover art for Winging It, which is the second book in her The Dragon Diaries Trilogy.  The book is scheduled to hit shelves in December 2011.  I love the dragon design and color scheme for this cover.  Sounds like an interesting series.

Synopsis (Product Description):

Zoë Sorensson yearns to come into her powers as the only female dragon shifter. But being part of two worlds is more complicated than she expected. It’s bad enough that she’s the target of the Mages’ plan to eliminate all shifters—she also has to hide her true nature from her best friend Megan, a human. For her sixteenth birthday, all Zoë wants is one normal day, including a tattoo and a chance to see hot rocker Jared.

Instead, the Pyr throw her a birthday party but ban Megan from attendance, putting Zoë in a tight spot. Things get even worse when Zoe is invited to the popular kids’ Halloween party and Megan’s left out. Zoë knows the party is a trap laid by the host, an apprentice Mage. When Megan gets a last-minute invite, Zoë must save the day—and her best friend—without revealing her fire-breathing secrets…

Myra McEntire unveiled the cover art for Hourglass, which is scheduled to hit shelves on May 24, 2011.  I’m not sure how I feel about this cover.  It’s interesting, but I’m not crazy about it.  The synopsis certainly sounds promising, so I’m looking forward to giving it a read.

Synopsis (Product Description):

“Since the age of fourteen, Emerson Cole has seen strange things – dead things – swooning Southern Belles, soldiers, and other eerie apparitions of the past. She’s tried everything to get rid of the visions: medication, counseling, asylums. Nothing’s worked.

So when Emerson’s well-meaning brother calls in yet another consultant from a mysterious organization called the Hourglass, Emerson’s willing to give it one last try.

Michael Weaver is no ordinary consultant. He’s barely older than she is; he listens like no one she’s ever met before; and he doesn’t make her feel the least bit crazy. As Emerson ventures deeper into the world of the Hourglass, she begins to learn the truth about her past, her future–and her very life.

A seductive time-slip novel that merges the very best of the paranormal and science fiction genres, Myra McEntire’s Hourglass is a stunning debut from an author to watch.”

Nalini Singh unveiled the cover art for the Angels of Darkness anthology, which will also feature stories from the following authors: Ilona Andrews, Meljean Brook, and Sharon Shinn. The book is scheduled to drop in October 2011.  This is a must read anthology.  I really love this cover.

Here is the new cover art for Shadow Walker by L.A. Banks, which is the first book in her new YA Neteru Academy series.  I like both covers, but the second version is much better. It’s very striking.

Synopsis (Product Description):

Set in a post-apocalyptic world following the Armageddon, in Shadow Walker, the teenage children of the world’s Guardians of the Light must learn to hone their extra-sensory talents to one day join in the battle with their parents.

While they are secreted away in the Temt Tchaas Academy, (aka Neteru Academy), these students must learn to fight evil as well as learn to resist the temptation of fighting with each other. Although these young people have super powers, they still struggle with the same dramas and insecurities like any other high school student – and just because their parents may be superhuman doesn’t mean their parents are perfect. Far from it. That only makes life more confusing, as peer pressure, budding romances, decisions about whether or not to snitch, or whether or not to use one’s supernatural gifts for personal gain must be sorted out.

In this coming of age story, Sarah Rivera and her twin brother, Alejandro, must figure out when to use their wings or fangs, how to get along with their compound siblings, how to fit in with others in a huge new school, and perhaps most importantly, how to pick their battles to always fight for what is right.

Here is the cover art for The Neon Graveyard by Vicki Pettersson, which is the sixth and final book in her Signs of the Zodiac series.  The book is scheduled to hit shelves on June 1, 2011.  I’ve read the first two books in this series and thought they were good.  I’m not crazy about this cover.  The last few covers in this series went in another direction, and I think the first three covers are much better.

Synopsis (Product Description):

Though once the perceived savior of the paranormal underworld, Joanna is now just another mortal. Yet the dueling factions of Shadow and Light won’t leave her alone. And while she’s being hunted for her duality, she can’t afford to hide. Her lover – her future – is being held captive in Midheaven, the stronghold of a goddess, her greatest foe. Joanna will risk everything she’s fought for up until now in order to bring about the future she really wants,  but that includes the prophesized apocalypse that will consume the valley if she fails.

Dani Harper unveiled the cover art for Changeling Dream, which is the second book in her Changeling series.  The book is scheduled to be released on June 28, 2011.  The first book in the series, Changeling Moon, will hit shelves on May 31, 2011.  I don’t like the second cover as much as the fist.  It looks like an awkward body angle.  I’m intrigued by the series, so I will give them a shot.

Hmm, I really like the cover for Changeling Dream (something about the awkward pose, with the pendant draped over her back, really works for me), but The Carrier of the Mark absolutely wowed me . . . gorgeous!
