Taking Cover: 27 Hot New Covers

I decided to group the new covers together because I compiled so many.  I’m getting caught up on my author blogs, Amazon, Goodreads and publishing catalogs, so I found a lot of gems.  First up is Dead on Delta by Stacey Jay.  I’ve had this book on my radar since the series was announced.  Dead on Delta is her first adult novel in her new urban fantasy series.  I really love this cover.  The book is scheduled to be released on May 31, 2011.

Synopsis (Product Description):

The first in an entertaining urban fantasy series in which fairies are the size of mosquitoes—and have poisonous bites that drive humans insane or to their deaths.

In present-day Louisiana, a chemical spill in the Mississippi River has turned fairies from microscopic harmless things to insect-like creatures with three sets of teeth and a hunger for human flesh and blood. Nearly all of those bitten will slowly go mad from the poison, except for a small number who are immune, and these people are drafted into service at Fairy Containment Control in hopes of finding a cure for the death and destruction. When FCC agent and alcoholic misfit Annabelle Lee discovers the body of a little girl, the police assume she’s a victim of the fairies. But to Annabelle, something doesn’t look right…and she embarks on a bizarre and dangerous adventure to find out the truth.

Instead, Ash has to learn these life lessons the hard way as her dormant powers erupt at the most awkward times. As if sophomore year couldn’t get any worse, her storm goddess older sister, the wild and unpredictable Eve, resurfaces to haunt Ashline. With a war between the gods looming over Blackwood, Ash must master the fire smoldering within her before she clashes with her sister one final time, which leads us to life-lesson #3:

• When warm and cold fronts collide, there’s guaranteed to be a storm.

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi—pure-bloods—have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals—well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.

Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:

Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.

Unfortunately, she’s crushing hard on the pure-blooded Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn’t her biggest problem–staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

Glad you’re digging the covers of the ROT & RUIN series. Simon & Schuster has been doing a marvelous job with these books, and I’m having an absurd amount of fun writing them. There will be at least two more, FLESH & BONE and FIRE & ASH.
