Taking Cover: 9 Hot New Covers

I have another round of covers this week to share.  First up is a very interesting steampunk novel from Pip Ballantine and Tee Morris, Phoenix Rising: A Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences.  This is the first book in a new series.  The book is scheduled to be released on May 1, 2011.  I love this cover.

Synopsis (Product Description):

These are dark days indeed in Victoria’s England. Londoners are vanishing, then reappearing, washing up as corpses on the banks of the river Thames, drained of blood and bone. Yet the Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences- the Crown’s clandestine organisation whose baliwick is the strange and unsettling- will not allow its agents to investigate. Fearless and exceedingly lovely Eliza D Braun, however, with her bulletproof corset and a disturbing fondness for dynamite, refuses to let the matter rest..and she’s prepared to drag her timorous new partner, Wellington Books along with her into the perilous fray.

For a malevolent brotherhood is operating in the deepening London shadows, intent upon the enslavement of all Britons. And Books and Braun- he with his encyclopedic brain and she with her remarkable devices- must get to the twisted roots of a most nefarious plot… or see England fall to the Phoenix.

Here is the cover art for Lure of the Wicked by Karina Cooper, which is the second book in her Dark Mission paranormal romance series.  The book is scheduled to be released on June 28, 2011.  This is a pretty hot cover.

Synopsis (Product Description):

It takes more than polish to heal the wounds of the soul.

Plucked from the no-frills interior of a stark jail cell, missionary Naomi West has been buffed, polished, and shined to topside perfection. Bitterly resentful, she is imprisoned within the city’s premier spa and resort and forced to pass as one of them to hunt down an agent gone rogue. The plan is simple: kill him, before the gilded cage she hates so much gets to her first.

Phinneas Clarke has put heart and soul into the spa, turning his family’s secrets and dreams into a successful business that hides the operation he runs behind the scenes. When the beautifully untouchable Naomi checks in, everything starts to unravel, and he must choose between protecting his investment, his family, or a woman too damaged to be any good for his heart.

A TIMELESS TALE OF TANGLED PASSIONS; LOVE, LUST AND MURDER.

Kiki Hamilton unveiled the cover art for The Faerie Ring, which is her debut release.  I read this book last year and enjoyed it very much.  I love the cover art.  The book is scheduled to be released In October 2011.

Synopsis (Product Description):

London, December 1871

Orphaned and picking pockets in London’s Charing Cross station to support not only herself, but her ‘family’ of orphans, sixteen year-old Tiki steals the Queen’s ring and thinks she’s solved their problems. That is, until Rieker, a pickpocket from the North End, suspects her in the theft and tells her that the ring is really a reservoir that holds a truce between the British and Faerie courts.

When he warns her that the fey will do anything, including murder, to recover the ring, Tiki is unsure whether to believe him or not. To complicate matters, Rieker seems to know something about the unusual birthmark on Tiki’s wrist. But when Tiki and her family are threatened the game changes.

In a dazzling debut that takes you from the gritty slums of Victorian London to the glittering ballrooms of the Royal Palace to the menacing Otherworld, you won’t want to miss this thrilling tale of mystery, adventure and romance.

Ellen Connor, a.k.a. Ann Aguirre and Carrie Lofty showed off the cover art for the rest of their Dark Age Dawning paranormal romance series.  Nightfall is the first book in the series, which will hit shelves on June 7, 2011.  Midnight will drop in September 2011, followed by Daybreak in December 2011. I’m really looking forward to reading this series.

Synopsis (Product Description):

Their desire destroys her defenses.
Their love gives him a reason to live.

Three years of wandering the post-apocalyptic wasteland has stripped Dr. Chris Welsh of humanity and hope. He’s a dangerous man now, full of dark energy and yen for violence. A harrowing loss drove him from his home, and he hasn’t stopped moving since. Grim and sardonic, he never found anything worth sticking around for–until now.

Rosa Cortez runs Valle de Bravo, a haven of civilization amid the chaos of the Change. Soldiers take their orders directly from her–the iron hand within a velvet glove. The last thing she needs is a feral loner upsetting the town’s tentative balance. However, for the good of her people, she lets the sexy doctor stay. He evokes a delicious new longing, but she won’t submit to any man.

Tension rises as bloodthirsty raiders strike again and again, bent on possessing Valle and its resources. Together Chris and Rosa battle hellhounds and dust pirates while also fighting desperate attraction. To save them, love must overcome the pain of the past–and build a future in this brutal Dark Age…

Synopsis (Product Description):

Their mission was to save the world.
Their destiny is to fall in love.

It’s been twelve years since the Change, and Penelope Sheehan is one of the few still practicing magic for the good of humanity in this dark, dangerous world. Determined to infiltrate the notorious O’Malley organization, she poses as an abducted girl–until a furious lion thwarts her mission. When the beast turns into a devastatingly handsome man, she recognizes in him the troubled boy she once knew.

Since becoming a skinwalker, Tru Daugherty has allowed his animal nature to take over. Aloof and cynical, he takes no interest in making the world a better place. He’s a creature of instinct and impulse, living only to satisfy his senses–ignoring the scarred heart nobody has ever reached. He’s also the best man to help Pen bring down the O’Malley crime ring.

Fighting alongside the last holdouts of humanity, they unleash a passion that tempts them to risk everything for love. But if they succeed, Tru and Pen hold the power to brighten the Dark Age for all time.

Here is the cover art for Storm’s Heart by Thea Harrison, which is the second book in her The Elder Races paranormal romance series.  The book is scheduled to be released on August 2, 2011.  This is another great cover for the series.  The latest books has a great background cityscape and I love the touch of purple.

Synopsis (Product Description):

He’s a wyr warrior, a god of storms. She’s the heir to the Dark Fae throne. But desire will bring both to their knees in this all-new Novel of the Elder Races.

During the rule of her murderous Dark Fae uncle, Thistle “Tricks” Periwinkle found sanctuary among the wyr in New York. Her ethereal beauty and sparkling personality won the hearts of the public, but after her uncle’s death, there are those who don’t want to see her ascend to the throne…

Here is the cover art for Hard Spell by Justin Gustainis, which is the first book in his new Supernatural Crimes urban fantasy series.  The book is scheduled to be released from Angry Robot on July 26, 2011.  I love the look and feel of this book.  Sounds pretty interesting as well.

Synopsis (Product Description):

Stan Markowski is a Detective Sergeant on the Scranton PD’s Supernatural Crimes Investigation Unit.

Like the rest of America, Scranton’s got an uneasy ‘live and let unlive’ relationship with the supernatural. But when a vamp puts the bite on an unwilling victim, or some witch casts the wrong kind of spell, that’s when they call Markowski. He carries a badge. Also, a crucifix, some wooden stakes, a big vial of holy water, and a 9mm Beretta loaded with silver bullets.

Good morning, Angela! Tee Morris from the Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences. Both Pip and I wanted to thank you for featuring our cover on your blog. We hope you enjoy “Phoenix Rising” when it comes in May. If you can’t wait that long, Pip and I are producing a podcast prequel anthology from our Ministry website. Have a listen, and we hope to hear from you again.
