The Dark Winter Tale event has officially kicked-off. I’d like to start by introducing Lesley Livingston, the author of the captivating Wondrous Strange series. Her latest release, Tempestuous, will hit shelves on December 21, 2010. Click on the links to read an excerpt from Wondrous Strange and Darklight.
Tomorrow, Tynga will continue the Dark Winter Tale event with author Carrie Jones.

It was a dark and snowy night. So still, so silent that Olivia could hear her own heart beating, loud in her ears, as she stepped outside. The air was clear and cold, the velvet sky spangled with gently falling silver-white flakes. The world looked like the inside of a snow globe settling after some giant hand had shaken it.
Liv took a deep, steadying breath and hitched the strap of her shoulder bag higher—careful of the bag’s contents—before she set out toward the looming, shadowed shape of a gothic building on the far side of the university campus. The one that housed a special archives collection in the sub-basement that hardly anyone knew about. Hardly anyone human.
She decided to cut across the football field. It was a risk, but a calculated one. She would be exposed, but the field was brightly lit at night and the shortcut would shave five or six minutes off her walk. Liv didn’t want to be outside any longer than she had to be. She wanted to get rid of the book and get gone. She never should have agreed to be Wyatt’s courier in the first place. But then again… she did a lot of things for Wyatt that she shouldn’t. It was his smile. The way his mouth curved up at the edges and his dark eyes glittered, always full of sly wit and a weight of secrets…
Olivia muttered a curse, chastising herself for letting him distract her even when he wasn’t there. The cold was biting at her now and she twitched the hood of her jacket up as she trudged through the pristine blanket of snow. Then she noticed the tracks. A single trail of footprints marred the sparkling expanse, heading in the same direction that she was walking. Boots. A man’s boots, judging by the size.
Nothing to worry about, Liv thought. A lot of students used the same shortcut and there were probably still night classes running—it wasn’t yet ten o’clock. Nothing unusual about footprints in the snow. Except that, when she reached the centre of the field, Liv saw that the tracks abruptly stopped. As if the owner of the boots had suddenly disappeared into the ground.
Or flown up into the sky.
