How to Smuggle the Last Human through the Earth Realm
By: Kelvin Kerr and Izel Campbell from The Darkest Day
Kelvin: Smuggling the last human through the earth realm? Christ, you’re really going ta make me relive this?
Izel: Hate to break it to you, Pookah, but we’re in a romance novel. We’re going to relive this little trek more than once, I assure you.
Kelvin: Good thing I took such good care of you then, lass. *Winks at Izel*
Izel: Took care of me? Are you referring to the time you were an ass, or the time you were a bigger ass?
Kelvin: I was actually thinking of that time you were on your back in the rain. *Squeezes Izel’s thigh*
Izel: *Slaps his hand* Hey. You just—that—we…
Kelvin: Speechless, lass? Do no’ worry, recalling fond memories can do that ta a person.
Izel: *Rolls her eyes* How many times do you plan to distort the truth?
Kelvin: As many times as it takes until you admit ta it. *Smiles*
Izel: *Pinches bridge of her nose* Oh, I have many memories with you, Kel, and not all of them are fond.
Kelvin: But the ones that count are. Say the word and I’ll take you back ta that hotel by the railway. I recall the bathtub they had was quite…accommodating.
Izel: *Inhales deeply* H-how about we just tell these nice people how you managed to get me half way across Scotland without being killed.
Kelvin: Well, your scent was challenging . Immortals can smell your humanness a mile away. That potion you had helped disguise it, but staying off the main roads and away from creatures was the best way ta move you through the country.
Izel: Yeah, the blisters on my feet from that little “hike” still ache. But weaving through the countryside was the safest bet, I suppose.
Kelvin: You’re forgetting one very important factor though, lass.
Izel: *Frowns and looks at Kelvin* What’s that?
Kelvin: *Leans in close to Izel and tucks a lock of hair behind her ear* A successful captor has ta be willing ta do anything to keep the prize he carries safe.
Izel: *Bites her lower lip*
Kelvin: *Grins* Even if that prize can be a royal pain in the arse.
