Travelling by Train through the New World Order, by Ian Hightower
Welcome aboard the Night Train. A few rules have to be laid down before we get moving. You may know some of these, some might be new, but all of them must be obeyed.
First of all, never step off the train until we get into a city. Not that you’ll want to: there’s nothing but desert out here. If you haven’t seen it before, you will soon enough. Go up to the observation decks during the day and look around. It’s a giant wasteland. The War did that, but I’m sure you already knew that.
Second, once we make it to a city, you have to obey their rules. It doesn’t matter how your city does it, they do it differently. Every city has a different vampire lord, and each one operates his domain his own way. You may have to give blood. If you do, you don’t ask questions, you just do it. The Night Train isn’t responsible for you once your feet touch the ground.
Third, while we’re talking about cities, it’s best to keep your mouth shut while you’re there. Vamps are suspicious, always have been; you have to be if you’ve avoided the stake for hundreds of years. As a result, vamp lords don’t like any new information getting into cities, they like everything controlled, even what people know about the outside world. That doesn’t mean you have to be rude: it just means you have to be careful.
And finally, well, this is just a bit of friendly advice out there: don’t get bit. We check neck and wrists upon entrance. If I even see scratches, I won’t care if you have a ticket from the Vampire Council: you aren’t getting on board. And if I find you onboard with a bite, well, I’ll leave you in the desert. Check the first rule again to see how that will turn out.
