Top Tips for Visiting Savannah, Georgia
Summer is here at last and many nightwalkers are planning little vacation trips and scouting new places to call home. With many of us are trying to avoid that inevitable trip to Venice and the Coven, I have found that many nightwalkers are being drawn to the quiet allure of Savannah and its vibrant nightwalker lifestyle. As Keeper of the Savannah domain, I thought I would take the time to post some top tips for creating a safe and enjoyable vacation.
Do find a suitable daytime lair before arriving. A successful vacation starts with careful planning. Savannah is a lovely place at night, but eventually the sun will rise and you will die. You need to find a suitable place to stash your body away from the human discovery. A hotel is a last resort as it is hard to keep the cleaning staff out of your room during the day. However, a nice alternative is any of the Bed and Breakfasts (B ’n B) in the area. The staff is small and easy to mentally manipulate ahead of time. For those seeking a more secretive alternative, check out the extensive tunnels that run under the city from the river.
Don’t forget to contact Knox before trying to visit the Dark Room. The Dark Room is one of the only exclusive nightwalker and lycanthrope night clubs in the New World, and is a favorite place to hang out at while visiting Savannah. It’s a place where we can all kick back and let our hair down for a few hours. However, the Dark Room is an exclusive members club. Knox is currently the acting manager and he can put you in contact with a potential sponsor should you wish to dance the night away at the Dark Room.
Do plan on a midnight stroll through Savannah’s more than 20 parks. The lovely city of Savannah is dotted with fantastic little squares, creating a wonderful park-like setting throughout Savannah. Forsyth Park has a fantastic fountain, lit with golden lights – a perfect romantic location for a memorable night. Be forewarned: this is no hunting or fighting in Johnson, Chippewa, and Monterey Squares as well as Forsyth Park. Hunt in those location, and I will remove your head.
Don’t miss out on the ghost tours. Savannah is known as one of the most haunted cities in all of the New World, and it had certainly earned this title. Check out any of the wonderful ghost tours that weave throughout the city. If you happen to partake of the trolley ghost tour, try to get Nathaniel as your host. The local ghost talker can give you up-to-date information on some of the most recent hotspots.
Do plan a visit to Bella Luna. Do you have human guardians traveling with you this summer? Treat them to a night out at Italian restaurant Bella Luna near River Street. Owned by the Alpha of the Savannah Pack Barrett Rainer, Bella Luna is largely staffed by lycanthropes, who are known for their highly advanced taste in good food. Elegant, subdued, and highly enjoyable, Bella Luna will provide your humans with a meal to remember. Tell them Mira sent you for a discount on two entrees.
Don’t piss off Danaus. Also known as the hunter and the Butcher, Danaus is a world-renowned nightwalker hunter. While we have established a tentative peace with Danaus now that he is living in Savannah, he has retained the right to defend himself. Should you provoke his ire, attack him, or merely bait him, he has my approval to stake you in a heartbeat. (Yes, commenting on his relationship with a nightwalker does count as provoking him.) And please don’t underestimate him because of his supposed humanity. He has staked thousands in his long career and he will be more than happy to include you in that life in that list.
Do keep your distance from the Firestarter. I am not a tourist attraction. I don’t want to sign autographs, stop for pictures, or set something on fire for you. While I understand that you must check in with the Keeper of Savannah (which is me), I don’t want to talk to you. Check in with my second-in-command Knox and he will pass the information along to me. Don’t talk to me and I won’t set you on fire. Also, don’t talk or flirt with Danaus, and I won’t set you on fire.
Now that you know all the basics for a great and safe stay in Savannah, I hope that you have a wonderful vacation in our lovely city. Welcome to Savannah!
The Oldest of three kids, Jocelynn grew up and continues to reside in the Cincinnati, Ohio region. She started writing when she was 12, spending all of one summer re-writing the story of Robin Hood in the battered remains of a notebook. While life has brought many changes and surprises, the love of writing and a good story has been a constant. When not writing, she can be found buried in a good book, wandering through the woods with her camera cradled protectively against her body, traveling to interesting locations, or relaxing with her family, who have also remained in the Cincinnati area.

About the Book:
The Great Awakening approaches . . .
After eons in exile, the naturi have broken their chains and now roam the Earth bent on revenge. It is the sworn duty of Mira, the Fire Starter, to protect the nightwalker race—though even she may be powerless to withstand the horrific onslaught. As Mira and her brave lover, the vampire slayer Danaus, stand ready to do battle, thousands of winged shapeshifters darken the skies. The war of ultimate extermination has begun, and the battleground is Mira’s home turf.
The humans don’t yet recognize the doom descending upon them. And the nightwalkers will surely perish unless they unite with outcast naturi who claim to want peace. But these unexpected “allies” are the same demons who have long worked for Mira’s destruction—and in these darkest of days the lines between friend and foe will blur treacherously before the bloody end of all things.
