Deadly Destinations: Suzanne Young’s Charlotte Cassidy on Portland

**Visit All Things Urban Fantasy today for her Deadly Destination tour of Elle Jasper’s Charleston from Riley Poe & a chance to win EVERDARK**

Deadly Destinations day three features Suzanne Young’s Charlotte Cassidy, a Forgotten.  Charlotte is a kind of angel on earth, who feels the Need—a powerful, uncontrollable draw to help someone.  Charlotte is giving us a tour of Portland, Oregon.  Thanks to Suzanne and HarperCollins, two of you who comment on this post will win a copy of the book!  See details below.

Charlotte Cassidy’s Guide to Portland, Oregon

by Suzanne Young

It rains a lot here in Portland, Oregon. Lately more than usual. But I know why—I know it’s the Shadows, and that they’re after me. But before I figure out how I’m going to survive the end of my existence, I thought I’d point out a few key spots that mean something to me. Before everything is erased.

First we’re here at VooDoo Donuts. My boyfriend, Harlin, takes me here a lot because he knows I’m addicted to the bacon maple bar. Yup. It’s a maple donut with a strip of bacon over the frosting. Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. He thinks it’s kind of disgusting.

Now we’re passing over the Rose City Bridge. I… I don’t really want to talk about it.

Here’s the clinic where I volunteer. I’m actually supposed to be there right now, but I figured my boss, Monroe Swift, is a practical saint and can save lives without my help today. Over there on the water, that super fancy high rise? That’s my friend Sarah’s place. Her dad is a real estate giant. He’s also a huge jerk.

And finally, my apartment building. I know it’s not much, but my adoptive mother, Mercy, keeps it really nice. And from my bedroom window, I can just see the water. The bridge. Sometimes from the window… I think I can see the End.

Anyway, Portland is a great city. You might see my boyfriend riding around on his Harley, or my best friend walking out of a second hand store with a dress for a benefit concert. But I’m not sure if you’ll see me. Then again, even if you did… you might not remember.

Two winners will each receive a copy of A Need So Beautiful by Suzanne Young

Available on June 21, 2011 from Balzer & Bray

About the Book:

We all want to be remembered. Charlotte’s destiny is to be Forgotten…

Charlotte’s best friend thinks Charlotte might be psychic. Her boyfriend thinks she’s cheating on him. But Charlotte knows what’s really wrong: She is one of the Forgotten, a kind of angel on earth, who feels the Need—a powerful, uncontrollable draw to help someone, usually a stranger.

But Charlotte never wanted this responsibility. What she wants is to help her best friend, whose life is spiraling out of control. She wants to lie in her boyfriend’s arms forever. But as the Need grows stronger, it begins to take a dangerous toll on Charlotte. And who she was, is, and will become–her mark on this earth, her very existence–is in jeopardy of disappearing completely.

Charlotte will be forced to choose: Should she embrace her fate as a Forgotten, a fate that promises to rip her from the lives of those she loves forever? Or is she willing to fight against her destiny–no matter how dark the consequences.

    Hi Suzanne,

This sounds very good. I can’t imagine having to deal with a choice like that. How did the idea of this book come to you?
Where should I go while in Portland this August other than Mt. Hood and the zoo?

I had no idea Suzanne was from Portland! That’s close to my own hometown that I grew up in! It can be a great city if you don’t mind the rain, which I do. ;) You paint it beautifully though Suzanne. If I don’t win your novel I’ll definitely be picking it up.

    Tweeting and blogging next Tuesday!

Ok Suzanne – the maple bar bacon … looks like a heart attack waiting to happen but I’m willing to try it – salty and sweet go good together. I really like the premise of your book – I hope I’m the winner!

I bet the bacon maple bar actually does taste good. I mean, they make maple flavored bacon.
