From Colleen Houck, New York Times bestselling author of The Tiger’s Curse, comes Recreated, the second book in the epic Egyptian-inspired Reawakened series, in which a seventeen-year-old must literally go to hell to save the love of her life.

Lily Young thought traveling across the globe with a reawakened sun prince was a grand adventure. Now she’s about to embark on the journey of a lifetime.

When Amon and Lily part tragically, he transports himself to the Netherworld—what mortals call hell. Tormented by the loss of his one true love, he’d rather suffer in agony during Lily’s mortal years than fulfill his duty to protect humanity.

Heartbroken, Lily seeks refuge on her grandmother’s farm. Yet she can feel Amon’s pain, and she has been having dreams—dreams of Amon continually suffering.

For before he departed, Amon gave Lily something very special, an item that connects them even though they are worlds apart. Now Lily must use this object to free him, and to free their realms from darkness and utter chaos. She will do whatever it takes.

Quick & Dirty: A beautifully written story filled with Egyptian mythology, romance, and adventure. If you don’t mind a slightly slower read and you enjoy fantasy you should give this series a try.

Opening Sentence: How could I have done something so foolish?

Excerpt: No

The Review:

Lily Young just recently returned from the adventure of a lifetime. She traveled the world with an ancient Egyptian prince and together they saved the world! They also fell in love along the way but a relationship with a 5,000 year old mummy is bound to be complicated. They had to part ways but Amon left Lily with a very special gift that connects them across the different planes of the world.

After saying goodbye to the love of her life, Lily travels to her beloved grandmothers for comfort but instead she starts to have dreams of Amon suffering. She soon learns that Amon has decided to shun his duties and live out the rest of his days in the Netherworld! What Amon didn’t realize is how much his choice has affected his brothers and all of humanity! Lily must travel to the Netherworld to try to save Amon and hopefully the world as well!

I adore a Lily. She is such a sweet girl with a huge heart. When you first meet her in book one she comes across as a very worldly person. She has a perfectly boring life and until she met Amon she was ok with that. But throughout the story she grows so much and she has genuinely become a wonderful young woman. A person that you can admire and relate to. She is smart, pretty, witty and brave. From the moment I met her, I loved her and my fondness for her just continued to grow! I am very excited to see where her journey takes her next.

Amon is one sexy book boy. I instantly found him intriguing and you can’t help but fall in love with him. I admire how much he has been willing to sacrifice for others and it was difficult to watch him make such a selfish choice in this book, even though I understand why he did it! While I don’t agree with everything he does, I still love him. His relationship with Lily is sweet and heart warming! I would have liked a few more moments with them, but hopefully we will get more in the next book!

Recreated is a fascinating story full of Egyptian mythology, action, romance, and a spectacular setting! I am continuously floored by the worlds that Houck creates. She knows how to write in way that makes it so easy for you to picture exactly what she is describing! She creates amazing imagery and I can honestly say that no other author does this better then Houck. While I loved this book there were a few things I struggled with. First off, the story reads a little on the slower side. It’s full of action but the descriptive writing makes it so the pacing is much slower then I prefer! Another thing I didn’t love was the introduction of another love interest! I just didn’t feel like it was necessary to add more drama to the story! But overall, I thought this was a wonderful read and I would highly recommend it to anyone that was fans of Houcks Tiger Saga or if you are just looking for a great fantasy read!

Notable Scene:

Anubis seemed to sense this and search my face hopefully. “Will you go, Lilliana?” He asked.

Hesitating for a single heartbeat, I answered quietly. “Yes.”

Anubis gifted me with the rare, heartfelt smile. “You are truly a brave girl. I can understand why Amon has such affection for you. But, Liliana, there is one thing you must do first. If you cannot accomplish this task, then you will not be permitted entry to Amun-Ra’s realm of all, let alone ride his celestial barque or enter the afterlife.”

I frowned, uncertainty fighting over me. “What is this?” I asked.

“You must transform yourself.”

Choking back my fear, I post, “do you mean I have to die first?”

Anubis shook his head. “Not die. No. For the tether to work, you will need to be alive. But your mortality will be altered somewhat. It’s an inevitable thing with this type of transformation. And you must understand that once this is done, you will never be just Liliana young again. You will be something altogether different.”

“What do I have to do?” I ask, terrified of his answer.

“You’ll have to become a sphinx.”
