DFT: Hi Ember I wanted to say thank you for agreeing to talk to us today.  For all of us that haven’t had a chance to read your story yet do you mind telling us a little bit about yourself?

Ember: Um, sure! Well, my name is Ember Hill, and I like surfing, junk food, volleyball, shiny things, and having fun.  Also, I like flying.  And fire.  I guess I should probably mention that I’m a dragon.

DFT: For all of your life you have been kept in hiding and the only companions you have ever had were your trainers and your brother.  I imagine that got quite lonely so I was wondering what you would do to try and pass the time?

Ember: Ugh, I didn’t have a lot of free time, because it was usually spent in classes and training, learning how to fit in and be human and all.  There was even a class called “Human Games and Sports,” and we had to learn how to have fun as a human, which kinda defeated the purpose if you ask me.  We did have a small rec center at school, so I played a lot of ping pong and pool with Dante.  But there were a lot of time where I was just. So. Bored.  There was literally nothing to do.   I spent a lot of nights lying outside, watching the stars until curfew, just wondering what life would be like once I got out of here.

DFT: After sixteen years you finally had the opportunity to test out being a normal teenager. What was the one thing you were most looking forward to in your new life?

Ember: Just everything.  Waking up when I wanted to.  Not having to be in classes all the time.  Actually having friends.  Yeah, that sounded pretty perfect to me.

DFT: For all intent and purposes you and your brother are twins.  You came from the same hatching which is very rare for your kind.  Growing up he was your best friend, but now things have started to become strained between you two.  Do you think it is possible to repair your relationship with him or do you think there are too many scars now?

Ember: Dante’s my brother.  Growing up, it was always us against everything.  We may have disagreed on a lot of things, but he’s my only family.  I’m not giving up on him now.

Talon

DFT: Garret is a very good looking guy that saved you from a bad situation.  As you spent time together you really started to fall for him, but he wasn’t the person you were expecting him to be. I know things with Garret are confusing right now, but could you tell us one of your favorite moments you spent with him?

Ember: The time we went surfing together.  I think he really started coming out of his shell and having fun for like the first time ever.  He actually started to tease me, which was amazing if you’ve ever met him.  He’s usually so guarded and serious, but that day I felt like I finally caught a glimpse of the real Garret.

DFT: Scary Talon Lady is your trainer and for the most part you two really don’t get along.  But you don’t have a choice when it comes to training you either do it or they will ship you back to hiding.  Is there anything you like about training or do you hate all of it?

Ember: Nope, pretty much all of it.  The only thing that makes it even slightly bearable is that sometimes I can be in my real form, but even that’s no fun when you’re getting chased around and shot at by fake soldiers of St. George.

DFT: I know that it is extremely important to keep the fact that you are a dragon hidden from the general public, but have you ever wished you could live freely among humans? If it was possible what is the one thing you would do more often?

Ember: Fly, definitely fly.  I miss flying a lot; nothing else really compares.  Surfing is the closest I can come right now, but if I could be myself without fear, I’d go flying every day.

DFT: The ending of your story was pretty crazy and heartbreaking.  I am pretty sure everyone is dying to know what is going to happen next. Are there any hints you can give us on what we can expect in the next book?

Ember: Hm, more soldiers, crazy romance, secret organizations, and fire-breathing dragons?  I think that covers a lot of it.

DFT: Given the fact that I’m pretty sure you’ve never been to a carnival until today I thought I would ask a couple fun quick fire carnival related questions. Which one would you try first:

Funnel Cake, Deep Fried Snicker, or Tiger Ears?

Wait, they can make a candy bar even more unhealthy?  That’s awesome!  Deep fry my Snickers, please.

Farris Wheel, Tilt-a-Whirl, or the Haunted House?

Haunted House.  Just try to scare me.

Attend a Magic Show, Talent Show, or Hypnotist Show?

Magic Show.  Hey, want to see a great trick?  Behold, this human will turn into a fire breathing dragon.

Skee Ball, Shooting Gallery, or Ring the Bell?

I know Garret would pwn the Shooting Gallery like a boss, but I think I’d have a better chance at Skee Ball.

Hand Dipped Corn Dog, Corn on the Cob, or Hamburger?

Ick, veggies. I’m a carnivore, after all.  Gimme a hamburger any day.

JulieAbout Julie:

Julie Kagawa, the New York Times bestselling author of the Iron Fey and Blood of Eden series was born in Sacramento, California. But nothing exciting really happened to her there. So, at the age of nine she and her family moved to Hawaii, which she soon discovered was inhabited by large carnivorous insects, colonies of house geckos, and frequent hurricanes. She spent much of her time in the ocean, when she wasn’t getting chased out of it by reef sharks, jellyfish, and the odd eel.

When not swimming for her life, Julie immersed herself in books, often to the chagrin of her schoolteachers, who would find she hid novels behind her Math textbooks during class. Her love of reading led her to pen some very dark and gruesome stories, complete with colored illustrations, to shock her hapless teachers. The gory tales faded with time, but the passion for writing remained, long after she graduated and was supposed to get a real job.

To pay the rent, Julie worked in different bookstores over the years, but discovered the managers frowned upon her reading the books she was supposed to be shelving. So she turned to her other passion: training animals. She worked as a professional dogtrainer for several years, dodging Chihuahua bites and overly enthusiastic Labradors, until her first book sold and she stopped training to write full time.

Julie now lives in Louisville, Kentucky, where the frequency of shark attacks are at an all time low. She lives with her husband, two obnoxious cats, one Australian Shepherd who is too smart for his own good, and the latest addition, a hyper-active Papillon.

Talon

Available October 28, 2014 from Harlequin Teen

About this Book:

Long ago, dragons were hunted to near extinction by the Order of St. George, a legendary society of dragon slayers. Hiding in human form and growing their numbers in secret, the dragons of Talon have become strong and cunning, and they’re positioned to take over the world with humans none the wiser.

Ember and Dante Hill are the only sister and brother known to dragonkind. Trained to infiltrate society, Ember wants to live the teen experience and enjoy a summer of freedom before taking her destined place in Talon. But destiny is a matter of perspective, and a rogue dragon will soon challenge everything Ember has been taught. As Ember struggles to accept her future, she and her brother are hunted by the Order of St. George.

Soldier Garret Xavier Sebastian has a mission to seek and destroy all dragons, and Talon’s newest recruits in particular. But he cannot kill unless he is certain he has found his prey: and nothing is certain about Ember Hill. Faced with Ember’s bravery, confidence and all-too-human desires, Garret begins to question everything that the Order has ingrained in him: and what he might be willing to give up to find the truth about dragons.

Sophie Jordan’s book firelight, or maybe Eragon. I liked Eon, but it would be a favorite. :)

Although I’ve read books with dragons in them when I hear “dragon” I think of Dragonheart dragon with Sean Connery’s voice.

I don’t have favorite books but I do like Eon and Eona, The inheritance cycle, Game of thrones and Voices of dragons. I just love dragons.

Smog, because well…benedict cumberbatch. Although now that I think of it the only book I’ve read with dragons is Eragon, I think. And that was years ago. I HAVE other books with dragons, I just haven’t read them yet…

Does The Hobbit count? :) Smaug was the first dragon I ever read about!
