Fantastic Fables: Andrea Cremer’s Calla on Fairy Tale Speed Dating

**Visit Tynga’s Reviews today for her Robin Hood Fantastic Fable from Sarah Jane Stratford & a chance to win THE MOONLIGHT BRIGADE and a special giveaway of Vision Impossible from Victoria Laurie**

We’re hitting the ground running for today’s Fantastic Fables thanks to Andrea Cremer’s Calla Tor.  We get to go on a fun trip via Fairy Tale Speed Dating with Andrea and Calla.  Andrea’s breakout hit Paranormal YA Nightshade series began with the beautifully crafted world in NIGHTSHADE and continues with the highly anticipated WOLFSBANE (available now).  Thanks to Andrea, one of you who comments on this post will win a copy of the book!  See details below

Calla: *with a growl* That’s an understatement.

Me: *smiles nervously* *nods* Calla is on the run from her masters, the Keepers, and her heart is divided over two pretty hot guys – one who was supposed to be her mate and the other who started out as a stranger but became much more.

Calla: *glares at me* Can we get on with this? Stop talking about my personal life!

Me: *quickly* What I’ve asked Calla to do is something I’m calling Fairy Tale Speed Dating. I’m going to name a well known fairy tale or fable and she’s going to give me the first answer of “what would you do?” that comes to her mind for each story. Ready, Calla?”

Calla: Ready.

Me: Snow White.

Calla: I don’t care about the house cleaning girl and her dwarves. I’d go find out what the huntsman was up to. He gave the queen a substitute heart instead of Snow White’s. That’s pretty cool.

Me: Okay, Three Little Pigs.

Calla: Remind me of why pigs are building houses in the first place?

Me: Cinderella

Calla: She has a horrible family that treat her like a scullery maid and her wish is to go a ball? I’d ask my fairy godmother for a pile of cash and a fast car.

Me: You know everyone wants to know your answer to this one – Red Riding Hood

Calla: *laughs* I’d need to hear the wolf’s side of the story before I did anything. But Red must not be that bright because even in pajamas wolves don’t look like people.

Me: Rapunzel

Calla: Don’t get me started on the perils of long hair. It’s such a pain.

Me: Sleeping Beauty

Calla: If a guy I didn’t know woke me up with a kiss he wouldn’t have his lips for very long.

Me: Beauty and the Beast

Calla: I think I preferred the beast to the prince. I’d ask him to change back.

About Andrea:

Andrea Cremer spent her childhood daydreaming while roaming the forests and lakeshores of Northern Wisconsin. She now lives in Minnesota, but she thinks of her homeland as the “Canadian Shield” rather than the Midwest.

Andrea has always loved writing and has never stopped writing, but she only recently plunged into the deep end of the pool that is professional writing. When she’s not writing, Andrea is a professor of history at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota.”

In the little spare time she can find, Andrea stares up at trees, rescues infant rabbits from predatory cats, and invents names for pug puppies with her husband. She has an unfortunate tendency to spill things – white carpets beware!

Her debut novel, NIGHTSHADE, the first of a YA fantasy series, will be published in fall 2010 by Penguin (Philomel).

Hadn’t read the first book, but the excerpt of Wolfsbane looks promising, promising enough to make me get hold of Nightshade anyway lol. Well written, with strong characters and as it’s a series, the characters have a chance to be properly drawn out. Now I need to find out what happens next…
