Meet Anton:

Excuse me, my name is Sonya, and I’ve hijacked this post to tell you a little about Prince Anton. That boy is infuriating and so hard for me to read! Sometimes I swear he has feelings for me, but then he gives me the cold shoulder. I can’t understand his penchant for protecting me. I serve his brother, the emperor, as a royal empath, the sovereign Auraseer. In order to work out my feelings for the prince, I wrote this song about him. You can listen to it here.

You will need to enter the code word: specialsong

All right, I’m turning this post back over to Prince Anton. Don’t tell him I stopped by!

Fill in the Blank:

A good time for me is: A good time? Let me see if I can remember what that is. I suppose dancing at the ball was tolerable…well, more than tolerable when I imagined I was dancing with Sonya. But I couldn’t dance with Sonya. My brother, the emperor, would have found out and punished her. He believes he’s in love with her, but his love is dark and obsessive.

I’d really rather: Leave the palace and go live a simple life in the country. But I would never be selfish like that. Too many people’s lives are at stake if my secret plot at the palace fails.

My biggest regret is: My damaged relationship with my brother, Emperor Valko. As boys, we were separated and lived apart from each other. I was told he died and that I would one day rule Riaznin. But Valko lived, and he’s seen me as a threat ever since I returned.

The best gift I could receive is: Freedom and equality for everyone. What might be better is true love…but I really don’t have time to think about that.

The last thing I do before I go to bed is: Write secret letters to those who are working with me in my plot against the empire.

If I could be anyone else for a day it would be: My best friend, Tosya. He knows how to work toward something important, but also when to let go and have some fun.

I feel passionate about: Sonya, but I try my best not to let her sense it. She’s an empath, and I worry my feelings will overpower her natural inclinations. I want her to choose for herself her attraction to another person, even if it’s not me. Above all, I respect her freedom, and I work hard to protect it.

My biggest vice is: My stubbornness. I have a hard time believing Sonya really could be falling in love with me. I’ve been disappointed so many times that it’s difficult to let someone into my heart. It’s safer to push people away and stay focused on my work. My work is a good distraction from my feelings.

Burning Glass

Available March 1, 2016 by Katherine Tegen Books

About this Book:

Sonya was born with the rare gift to feel what those around her feel—both physically and emotionally—a gift she’s kept hidden from the empire for seventeen long years. After a reckless mistake wipes out all the other girls with similar abilities, Sonya is hauled off to the palace and forced to serve the emperor as his sovereign Auraseer.

Tasked with sensing the intentions of would-be assassins, Sonya is under constant pressure to protect the emperor. But Sonya’s power is untamed and reckless, and she can’t always decipher when other people’s impulses end and her own begin. In a palace full of warring emotions and looming darkness, Sonya fears that the biggest danger to the empire may be herself.

As she struggles to wrangle her abilities, Sonya seeks refuge in her tenuous alliances with the charming-yet-volatile Emperor Valko and his idealistic younger brother, Anton, the crown prince. But when threats of revolution pit the two brothers against each other, Sonya must choose which brother to trust—and which to betray.

I have been looking forward to Burning Glass. I think I had forgotten the love triangle part, though. I’m always interested in the political intrigue, which Anton seems to be a big part of.

Ooo… Prince Anton is against his brother. I’m intrigued… I don’t think I’ve ever read a YA fantasy book with two conspiring brothers. Usually it’s just the one who tries to evilly usurp the other.

Anton sounds like the enigmatic and frustrating love interest that differs from his brother in many ways which leads to the slow burning love triangle. Sounds like Sonya has her hands full…
