Giveaway: The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

Maggie Stiefvater’s upcoming release is THE SCORPIO RACES, which is scheduled to hit shelves on October 18, 2011.  One of you who comments on this post will win a copy of the book.  As always, see details below.

About Maggie:

All of my life decisions have been based around my inability to be gainfully employed. Talking to yourself, staring into space, and coming to work in your pajamas are frowned upon when you’re a waitress, calligraphy instructor, or technical editor (all of which I’ve tried), but are highly prized traits in novelists, musicians, and artists (I’ve made my living as one of these since I was 22).

I now live an eccentric life in the middle of nowhere, Virginia, with my charmingly straight-laced husband, two small kids, two neurotic dogs, one criminally insane cat, and a 1973 Camaro named Loki.

I’m an avid reader, an award-winning colored pencil artist, and play several musical instruments, including the Celtic harp, the piano, and the bagpipes. I also make great cocktail party conversation.

You can visit Maggie around the web here: Website | Blog | Twitter | Facebook

One winner will receive a copy of The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

Available on October 18, 2011 from Scholastic Press

About the Book:

It happens at the start of every November: the Scorpio Races. Riders attempt to keep hold of their water horses long enough to make it to the finish line. Some riders live. Others die.

At age nineteen, Sean Kendrick is the returning champion. He is a young man of few words, and if he has any fears, he keeps them buried deep, where no one else can see them.

Puck Connolly is different. She never meant to ride in the Scorpio Races. But fate hasn’t given her much of a chance. So she enters the competition — the first girl ever to do so. She is in no way prepared for what is going to happen.

I’m looking forward to this book because I liked Shiver a lot (and am going to read Linger & Forever really soon, I hope). I’ve heard only good things about this book so I’m pretty excited for it!

Huh, the Celtic harp and the bagpipes explain how the musical descriptions in Ballad and Lament are so good…Speaking of Ballad and Lament, their awesomeness is why I want to read The Scorpio Races. They were so good, The Scorpio Races must be too, right?

There are so many reasons why I want to read this. The water horses aspect is cool. But I think the main reason is I love stories where girls enter a guys world and try to triumph. That’s always a great hook. Look forward to this one.

I think the biggest selling factor, aside from the fact that Maggie wrote it, is the fact that Maggie says this is her favourite of all the books she’s written. She’s got good taste, so I trust her that this book is gonna be good ;)

I can’t wait to read Maggie’s new book, and I think the video of her driving around in Loki is hysterical. It’s difficult enough to write a book, but even more so with two small children. Great work! I hope to see you on your book tour in DC.
