Giveaway: The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson

THE NAME OF THE STAR is the first book the new Shades of London trilogy by Maureen Johnson.  The heroine of this story, Rory Deveaux, is an American girl attending a London boarding school in the White Chapel district.  Rory also has her own special abilities and a bit of bad luck.  A Jack-the-Ripper copycat is on the loose in London, and Rory helps the special ghost police in its search for the serial killer.  One of you who comments on this post will win a copy of the book!  See details below.

About Maureen:

Maureen knew from an early age she wanted to be a writer. She went to high school at an all-girls’ Catholic school and graduated from University of Delaware with a degree in writing. She now lives and writes in New York City.

Many of the adventures Maureen’s characters face in her books are based on real-life stories. Maureen has traveled all over Europe, and is a Secret Sister to vlog brothers Hank and John Green.

One winner will receive a copy of The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson

Available on September 29, 2011 from Penguin/Putnam

About the Book:

The day Louisiana teenager Rory Deveaux arrives in London marks a memorable occasion. For Rory, it’s the start of a new life at a London boarding school. But for many, this will be remembered as the day a series of brutal murders broke out across the city, gruesome crimes mimicking the horrific Jack the Ripper events of more than a century ago.

Soon “Rippermania” takes hold of modern-day London, and the police are left with few leads and no witnesses. Except one. Rory spotted the man police believe to be the prime suspect. But she is the only one who saw him. Even her roommate, who was walking with her at the time, didn’t notice the mysterious man. So why can only Rory see him? And more urgently, why has Rory become his next target? In this edge-of-your-seat thriller, full of suspense, humor, and romance, Rory will learn the truth about the secret ghost police of London and discover her own shocking abilities.

I would like to read this book because it’s like a modern day telling of an old story. I would like to see where the author goes with this story.

The cover has a haunted look to it which I find very appealing. I like that there story is set in London but that the protagonist is American.
