Starters is the debut release from author Lissa Price.  It’s the first book in a series with the same name, followed by Enders, which hits shelves on December 12, 2012.  Starters will be available on March 13, 2012.

Portrait of a Starter: An Unhi... Starters

___________________________________________________________________________________________

This giveaway is provided by Dark Faerie Tales

One winner will receive a copy of Starters by Lissa Price

Available on March 13, 2012 from Random House/Delacorte

About the Book:

Callie lost her parents when the Spore Wars wiped out everyone between the ages of twenty and sixty. She and her little brother, Tyler, go on the run, living as squatters with their friend Michael and fighting off renegades who would kill them for a cookie. Callie’s only hope is Prime Destinations, a disturbing place in Beverly Hills run by a mysterious figure known as the Old Man.

He hires teens to rent their bodies to Enders—seniors who want to be young again. Callie, desperate for the money that will keep her, Tyler, and Michael alive, agrees to be a donor. But the neurochip they place in Callie’s head malfunctions and she wakes up in the life of her renter, living in her mansion, driving her cars, and going out with a senator’s grandson. It feels almost like a fairy tale, until Callie discovers that her renter intends to do more than party—and that Prime Destinations’ plans are more evil than Callie could ever have imagined…

This concept is so thought provoking I can’t even decide right now. I keep coming up with great arguments for both. I would hope I wouldn’t have to rent my body, but you never know what life could predict.

I’ve been dying to read this one!! Not sure how I feel about the cover…

It depends on how desperate I am. If my whole family needs the money for food or just to survive and I’m the only teenager, then it’s a definite maybe. Awesome idea though!

I wouldn’t rent my body b/c of the possibility that I could loss all control over my actions. I couldn’t stand by, without being able to do anything, and let something bad happen :P

No, I wouldn’t rent my body out. Partly because you don’t know what will happen to it while you’re not in there, but also because you might not get it back. And because it’s just wrong, it gives me the creeps. I wouldn’t want to be the renter, either.

If I were caught in the world of Starters, I’d be more interested in being part of the rebellion! I don’t know that I’m an especially charismatic person myself, but there’s bound to be rebels out there somewhere I could join up with. I’d rather run to them, however dangerous it might be, than be forced to play by the Enders’ crazy rules out of desperation.

If I did have family to take care of, in order to keep them out of danger I’d probably get as far away from civilization as I could go. Find a survivalist group, maybe. If we could get our hands on the right tools on our way out, at least we’d have a chance.

I think that the contract for body lending would be a little fishy, with a huge payout it seems too good to be true so NO body subrenting for me. I have wee little faith on the rich to take care of my one and only body in that future world.
