Guest Author: Karin Tabke (Guest Post & Giveaway)

I’m so pleased to welcome author Karin Tabke here today to Dark Faerie Tales.  The first book in her new Blood Moon Trilogy, Blood Law, hits bookshelves today.  The second book in the series is called Blood Right, and is scheduled to be released in February 2012.  I just finished reading Blood Law over the weekend and LOVED it.  The story completely blew me away.  The mythology and worldbuilding are fantastic.  Stay tuned for my review later in the week.

One lucky commenter will have a chance to win a $15.00 electronic Amazon Gift Certificate.  Details are listed at the end of the post.

Author Bio:

For a long time, controlled chaos ruled Karin’s life.  Busy mother of four, owner of her own successful business and wife to a street cop, she harbored thoughts of twisting plots and hot romantic scenes.  Now, with only one child left at home and hubby retired from law enforcement, Karin happily pounds out those steamy scenes at her keyboard.

Still semi-distracted by her adult children (Yay! no more phone calls from the high school!) and her husband now a successful football coach (Yay! No more worrying when he’s out on the street!), Karin turns out stories about hot cops, bold knights, bad boy werewolves, and the women who bring them to their knees.

A full-time writer, Karin draws on a lifetime of stories and backdrops that few outside of the law enforcement community ever see, let alone hear about.  Controlled chaos now reins supreme through the pages she writes where hot heroes serve, protect, and pleasure from page one to The End.

Karin also writes paranormal romantic suspense as Karin Harlow.

What’s Your Favorite Shift?

by Karin Tabke

So, what is your favorite shift?  I’m not talking mids or swing or day shift but shape shifter?  I’ll be honest with you all; I never thought I’d write a shifter story, much less a connected shifter trilogy!  I never read them, the only paranormals I read were vampire stories, and most of them I didn’t finish.  Mostly because the vamps were wimpy, fighting and or disgusted by the fact that they had to suck blood, human blood to survive.  I like my vamps to bite, and like it!  I like them to live for the hunt and savor the victory.  I like them to be in touch with their primal self. Very in touch!

It’s all about being primal.  Humans have a primal side, but not like animals do. Animals run on instinct. Domestic dogs and cats revert to their primal instincts even with human training. Primal is their default mode. Wolves are predatory, loyal, ferocious, mate for life, intelligent and majestically beautiful. And primal through and through. It was no wonder when I mulled around the idea for this shifter series, my first thought began and ended with wolves. I know, I know, everybody does wolves, but not everybody does wolves a la Tabke.  And not everyone does it Sons of Anarchy meets Rise of the Lycan, style.  Or two Alpha brothers destined to mark the same life mate, style.

It was a no-brainer for me to write the story of twin brothers: Lucien and Rafael, and Falon, the woman that stands between them and the survival of their race as lycan. There was no other species that could highlight the primal aspect of these brothers as well as wolves.  So wolves it was, and I have to tell you, I loved writing BLOOD LAW. I’m working on BLOOD RIGHT right now and ladies, it is smokin’ hot!

I love interspersing wolf instinct with human reasoning.  I love tempting my humans with their primal selves.  I love using the noble strength of the wolf and balancing it against human adversity.  It’s like having Jekyll and Hyde in the same being and most of the time, cheering for Hyde!

Now, while I am extolling the wonder of wolves, I am not opposed in the least to writing, say a were leopard or were tiger story, but the primal animal must fit the story!  How about you? What’s your favorite shift?  And just for you ladies and maybe a gent or two, I have a $15.00 electronic Amazon Gift Certificate to give away to one randomly selected commenter who answers the question!   Also, for any aspiring writers reading today, I’m always happy to answer any questions you may have regarding this crazy world of publishing, and to readers, I’m an open book as far as answering questions about my stories.  So ask away!

About the Book:

For all eternity, only one thing shall separate them—until the Blood Law is avenged…

The coming of the Blood Moon will lead two Lycan packs into war, spur two rival brothers into conflict, and spark an act of vengeance so evil that its effects will be felt for generations.

One woman stands at the center of it all…

As undisputed Alpha, Rafael must choose a life mate to preserve the dominance of his Lycan pack. He never suspected, his mate would be a human, the same wounded, girl-woman he seduces from the brink of death. Falon is a dangerous combination of Lycan and Slayer—beings bred to destroy his kind. Even more, she’s a mesmerizing beauty whose sensuality tempts the seasoned warrior to take unnecessary risks. The primal heat between them is irresistible, yet surrendering to it could destroy them both…for a vengeful foe stands ready in the shadows to fulfill what is rightfully his by Blood Law.

    Great post!

Answering Karin’s question- I prefer the large shifters like werewolves or big cats such as tigers or lions, but werewolves are definitely first.

Wolves are my favorite shifters. I would choose big cats as my second favorite. I like how Alpha wolf shifters are. They are usually very loyal to their family/pack. I also like how protective and possessive they are.

Thank you so much for the great giveaway!
