Happy Blogoversary Angela! Dark Faerie Tales and All Things Urban Fantasy both entered the blogosphere within weeks of each other and since we both focus on paranormal fiction, Dark Faerie Tales has been an amazing encouragement and example to me of what a blog can and should be. Thank you for keeping me on my toes this last year and in the year to come
Since we’re celebrating your first year of blogging, I thought I pick my favorite new urban fantasy hero since you first started Dark Faerie Tales:
Name: Hank (from Kelly Gay’s Charlie Madigan series)
Occupation: Atlanta P.D.’s Integration Task Force Detective
Location: Originally from the heaven-like world of Elysia, currently living in Atlanta
Abilities: Supernaturally alluring voice, Elysian magic
Notable Physical Characteristics: “Blond, wavy hair the color of sunshine on gold. Six-four. Two hundred pounds of lean muscle, and the same kind of grace, presence, and majesty of a lion. His eyes change color with his mood—dark sapphire when he’s pissed, topaz blue when he’s cracking some asinine joke.” – Kelly Gay
Oh Hank. Where have you been all my life? Hank is the off-worlder partner of the main character in this series, Charlie Madigan. He is the only male siren that I’ve ever read about and he is divine. As a siren, Hank can compel, coerce, and comfort with a single word. To keep the humans from following him around like “a bunch of drooling puppy dogs” he wears a voice-mod (similar to a Celtic torc) that suppresses his abilities, but when he takes it off…yowza!
Like all my favorite heroes, Hank is totally alpha, but in a very modern way. He’s strong and capable and he’s used to getting his way, but he also knows when to clench his jaw shut and let Charlie take the lead. He is fully aware of how sexy he is and enjoys using that to trip Charlie up from time to time. If you haven’t met Hank yet, run don’t walk to the nearest book store and pick up The Better Part of Darkness & The Darkest Edge of Dawn by Kelly Gay.
