Mating Games: Heart of the Demon by Cynthia Garner

The Mating Games event kicks off with Keira O’Brien and Finn Evnissyen, the sexy couple from Cynthia Garner’s Heart of the Demon.  Heart of the Demon is the third novel in the Warriors of the Rift series. This series combines aliens, space dimensions and the supernatural! Let’s get to know Keira and Finn before Heart of the Demon is released on February 26, 2013!

DFT: What did you think when you first laid eyes on your mate?

Finn: I thought she was the most beautiful, sexiest creature I’d ever seen. With that flowing red hair and those gorgeous blue eyes, she’s a dream come true.

Keira: He’s gorgeous, of course, but a bit of a pain in the ass. Most men are.

DFT: Describe your mate in three words.

Finn: Strong. Smart. Loyal.

Keira: Intelligent. Dangerous. Committed.

DFT: What would you do if you caught someone hitting on your mate?

Finn: If Keira hadn’t already put him in his place, I’d make sure he knew she was off-limits.

Keira: I trust Finn to let her know he’s not available. Having said that, I’m more than capable of doing the same.

DFT: Leather or lace?

Finn: If Keira wants to distract me from an argument, all she has to do is strip down to her lacy underthings and I’m a goner. Oh, wait. Are you asking about me? Leather, dude. Leather all the way.

Keira: He’s such a joker. Leather is uncomfortable for me, so, yes, lace. I don’t mind seeing Finn in leather—I love him in his leather jacket—but yeah, lace isn’t really his style.

DFT: What was the first thing that attracted you about your mate?

Finn: I’m a visual guy. That glorious hair of hers is what first caught my attention. I couldn’t help but wonder what it would feel like draped over my body.

Keira: Honestly, it was the sense of danger about him that drew me in. I’ve always had a thing for bad boys. Luckily, he’s also a good guy.

DFT: Name the most annoying thing your mate does?

Finn: She doesn’t put up with any of my crap. Normally that’s a good thing, but there is such a thing as too much of a good thing…

Keira: He’s so full of crap. See how that works? If he wasn’t so full of it, then I wouldn’t have to not be putting up with it, and he wouldn’t be annoyed.

DFT: What is the best decision you have ever made?

Finn: To become an independent man and get out from under my father’s control. It’s allowed me to have the kind of life I want with Keira.

Keira: Taking a chance on Finn. I knew there was a good man underneath all that demon bluster, and I was right.

DFT:  Between the sheets or on top?

Finn: Most of the time I prefer between the sheets. There’s something really sensual about the silky texture of being between sheets you don’t get with being on top of them. But, realistically, we don’t always take the time to get between the sheets if we’re in a hurry, if you know what I mean.

Keira: On top, hands down. There’s nothing like the kind of sex where you don’t have time to get under the sheets.

DFT: The sexiest noise my mate makes is ___________.

Finn: I bet you’re thinking I’m going to respond with a sound she makes during sex, right? Don’t get me wrong, she’s plenty sexy while we’re making love. But the sexiest noise she makes is this little breathy moan she gives after I kiss her, like she misses the touch of my lips. It keeps me diving back for more.

Keira: I may regret saying this, because he’ll use it against me, but when he gets aggravated he gives this little growl that just turns me on immediately.

DFT: My mate’s sexiest article of clothing is _______.

Finn: Keira has this one dress that is a shimmering dark blue, long sleeves with a high collar, but it’s backless. From the front she looks demure and conservative, but then you get a look at her long, slender back and it’s enough to drive me wild. Especially when I know she’s not wearing a bra and the only article of clothing she has beneath it is a tiny scrap of panties I could rip off with one hand.

Keira: It has to be that leather jacket. Reminds me of his bad boy side.

DFT: Hot Summer days or cold Winter nights?

Finn: I’m a demon, so I can handle the heat. Turn up the heat with some sultry summer lovin’…

Keira: Oh, cold winter nights for me. I love to cuddle.

DFT: Would your mate rather have chocolates or flowers for Valentine’s Day?

Finn: Keira’s very much a child of nature, so she prefers live flowers (not cut and, therefore, dead). Actually, now that I think of it, flowers and chocolate is the way she flies.

Keira: Finn’s not into flowers so much. Chocolate with chocolate inside covered by more chocolate is definitely the way to go.

About Cynthia:

My interest in writing got an early start when my sixth grade teacher told us to complete the following sentence:  “It was a dark and stormy night…”  With that my love of all things paranormal was born.

I didn’t start writing with an eye toward publication until 1999. I had a few short stories win some contests and get published in now defunct publications. A move to Arizona in 2000 and a new job put my writing on hold. In early 2005 I couldn’t keep the stories inside any longer, and made the decision to focus on a writing career, beginning with electronic publishers. Under the pen name Sherrill Quinn, I signed my first contract in September 2005, and my first novella was published in March 2006. In 2009 the first of three Kensington Brava books was released.

I’m very excited to have my Warriors of the Rift series find a home with Grand Central. You’ll get to meet vampire Tobias Caine, half-demon Nix de la Fuente, werewolf Victoria Joseph, human cop Dante MacMillan, demon Finn Evnissyen and fey princess Keira O’Brien.

By day I’m a mostly mild-mannered Human Resources Manager for a local non-profit organization. I’m originally from northeast Ohio and fled the snow over ten years ago to live in the heat of southeastern Arizona.

Available February 26, 2013 from Forever/Hachette Book Group

About this Book:

Warriors of the Rift

Once a generation, the rift between the paranormal world and the human world opens, allowing supernatural entities to cross. Vampire, demon, or shapeshifter, they can save the world—or send it spiraling into chaos.

The next opening of the rift is coming—and its consequences will be deadly. A rogue group of human-hating preternaturals is planning an apocalyptic attack, but the Council of Preternaturals may have found the key to saving the world: Keira O’Brien, a fey with a long criminal record, whose empathic abilities once made her the queen of con artists. If she successfully infiltrates the dangerous faction, the sins of her past will be forgiven.

Keira isn’t the only agent working against the rogue prets. Finn Evnissyen, a powerful demon with a dark lineage, is a hired assassin looking for a way out. If he stops the threat, he will finally earn his freedom. As the rift fast approaches, and danger escalates, Finn and Keira must discover if they’re on the same side—or sleeping with the enemy . . .
