Publishing News: Books to Watch (28)

Here is another update for the Books to Watch list.  Jenn Bennett’s Run Devil Run sounds like a great addition to the urban fantasy genre. Nicole Maggi’s Shift also sounds really good.  I’m definitely interested in learning more about the mythology.  You can view my previous Books to Watch posts here.

Synopsis (Dark Faerie Tales/Publishers Marketplace):

1. Jenn Bennett’s RUN DEVIL RUN, about an outlaw magickian who teams up with an enigmatic earthbound demon in a search for the elusive creature who can exonerate her infamous (and on-the-run) parents, the first in a new urban fantasy series, to Pocket, in a two-book deal. (NA)

2. Nicole Maggi’s SHIFT, based on the Italian legend of the Benandanti, a girl learns she is part of the ancient clan of warriors who can shapeshift their souls into various animals, and is drawn into their centuries-old conflict with the evil Malandanti in order to protect the world’s magical sites from their control, to Harper Children’s, in a pre-empt. (NA)

3. NYT bestselling author Gail Carriger’s HEARTLESS and TIMELESS, the fourth and fifth novels in the Alexia Tarabotti Parasol Protectorate series, again to Orbit. (World)

4. Author of Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs series, Molly Harper’s HOW TO FLIRT WITH A NAKED WEREWOLF and HOW TO TALK TO A NAKED WEREWOLF, again to Pocket.

5. Dakota Banks’ DESPAIR, the third in her Mortal Path urban fantasy series, the story of a demon’s enslaved executioner who has been reborn, and is willing to sacrifice her immortality for a chance at freedom and salvation, as the Vice President wants her as an assassin to advance his agenda, to Eos. (NA)

6. Michael Carroll’s SUPER HUMAN 2, a sequel to the author’s Super Human, about a group of teen super heroes who find out that America’s history has been altered after a time-traveling villain has taken over the country, to Penguin Children’s. (World)

I’ve heard good things about SHIFT. The others are new to me. Thanks for the recommendations! I’m off to look them up.
