Don’t miss this spectacular new series that will steal your heart and haunt your dreams, Welcome to Shadow Falls camp, nestled deep in the woods of a town called Fallen…

One night Kylie Galen finds herself at the wrong party, with the wrong people, and it changes her life forever. Her mother ships her off to Shadow Falls—a camp for troubled teens, and within hours of arriving, it becomes painfully clear that her fellow campers aren’t just “troubled.” Here at Shadow Falls, vampires, werewolves, shapshifters, witches and fairies train side by side—learning to harness their powers, control their magic and live in the normal world.

Kylie’s never felt normal, but surely she doesn’t belong here with a bunch of paranormal freaks either. Or does she? They insist Kylie is one of them, and that she was brought here for a reason. As if life wasn’t complicated enough, enter Derek and Lucas. Derek’s a half-fae who’s determined to be her boyfriend, and Lucas is a smokin’ hot werewolf with whom Kylie shares a secret past. Both Derek and Lucas couldn’t be more different, but they both have a powerful hold on her heart.

Even though Kylie feels deeply uncertain about everything, one thing is becoming painfully clear—Shadow Falls is exactly where she belongs…

Quick & Dirty: Great YA Paranormal read with lots of action, romance, and a good plot.  The characters can be a little annoying at times but there is hope for better development in future books.

Opening Sentence: “This isn’t funny!” her father yelled.

The Review

Kylie Galen has always been a normal good girl, but her life is starting to fall apart.  Her parents are getting divorced and her boyfriend just recently broke up with her.  To make matters even worse she has been having night terrors and she has been seeing a ghost.  Her mom decides that it would be best for Kylie to attend a summer camp for troubled kids called Shadow Falls.  Because she has no other choice Kylie goes and her world changes forever.  Turns out supernatural beings exist and supposedly they think that Kylie is one of them.  The camp is a special camp for all supernatural’s to go to and try to get along with each other.  There are vampires, werewolves, witches, fairies, and shape shifters.  Usually if you are a supernatural you can read what other supernatural’s are but Kylie is unreadable.  All supernatural’s have special abilities, some have enchanted hearing; some are super fast, or super strong, and some can change shape.  Kylie has no idea what she is but she does know that she can see ghosts which is very rare even for a supernatural. Hopefully by the end of the summer she can figure out what she is and what her ghost stalker wants from her.

The story is told from Kylie’s point of view and she is a fun girl to read about.  There are times where she tends to drive me nuts because she can be so indecisive, but she has a fun personality with lots of spunk.  Kylie doesn’t believe she is a supernatural, it is usually hereditary and she knows that her parents are normal.  But she can’t help feeling that she belongs at the camp with the people there.  She meets some new friends and some very hot boys while at Shadow Falls.

Now on to the boys.  First we have Derek he is part Fae and he can sense people emotions.  He is a super sweet guy, and very good looking.  For some reason when Kylie meets him she is reminded of her ex-boyfriend which makes her feelings for him very complicated.  He also happens to be able to manipulate your emotions if he is touching you.  So Kylie never knows if her feelings for him are real or if he is making her feel the way she does.  She thinks she likes him but with everything going on she wants to try and just be friends.

Then there is Lucus.  He is a werewolf and Kylies recognizes him.  They were neighbors about ten years ago and she always thought that he was a little different.  Seeing him now brings back memories from her childhood and how he was always really sweet to her, but she is pretty sure he also killed her cat.  She is slightly afraid of him but she can’t deny how attractive he is.  The chemistry between them is pretty intense, but Kylie doesn’t know if she can trust him.

I really enjoyed this book.  It was a fast read full of lots of action and romance.  The writing was great and the plot was fun and easy to follow.  The characters had some flaws but there is defiantly potential for them in the next book.  I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys YA Paranormal books.  It really was a good read.

Notable Scene

The dead guy kept his eyes on Kylie while he slowly reached up and removed his helmet.  Blood, bright red blood, gushed down his forehead.  Kylie’s breath caught as she watched the blood trickle down his face.  Then everything went into slow motion.  Kylie stood up, wanting to escape.

Drip. Drip. Drip.

Blood droplets splattered onto the floor and left tiny speckles of red on the top of her bare feet.  The drops kept coming.  The specks of blood kept landing on her feet and then they started forming letter and then a word. Help…
