Synopsis

Danger and betrayal, secrets and enchantment in the breathtaking conclusion to the Infernal Devices trilogy.

Tessa Gray should be happy – aren’t all brides happy?
Yet as she prepares for her wedding, a net of shadows begins to tighten around the Shadowhunters of the London Institute.
A new demon appears, one linked by blood and secrecy to Mortmain, the man who plans to use his army of pitiless automatons, the Infernal Devices, to destroy the Shadowhunters. Mortmain needs only one last item to complete his plan. He needs Tessa. And Jem and Will, the boys who lay equal claim to Tessa’s heart, will do anything to save her.

Quick & Dirty: This was an amazing ending to a phenomenal series.  It is filled with adventure, romance, heartbreak, and drama.  Fans of Cassandra Claire will not be disappointed.

Opening Sentence: “I’m afraid,” said the little girl sitting on the bed.

The Review

Tessa Gray should be happy.  There hasn’t been any sign of the magister for a few months now and she is getting ready to marry Jem, but things are complicated.  Tessa loves Jem so much, but he is dying.  They haven’t been able to find a cure and he is starting to get worse.  He takes a special drug that is prolonging his life, but it is also slowing killing him.  He has recently run out of his supply of the drug and there is no more to be found anywhere.

The magister has decided to finally make a move and he has bought the entire supply of the drug Jem needs in order to blackmail Tessa.  Will and Tessa will do anything to try and save Jem, but they are running out of time.  The magister needs Tessa.  She is a vital part in his plan to destroy all the shadowhunters. Tessa will do anything to protect all those she cares about, but stopping the magister with his automaton seems pretty impossible.  The clock is ticking and not everyone will come out unscathed.

Tessa is a wonderful heroine.  She isn’t the best fighter, but she always tries to help wherever she can.  She is kind and clever.  She is very loyal and always puts others before herself.   She is also very torn between two wonderful boys.  She loves Jem and has committed to marrying him even if it is for only a short time.  She also can’t deny that she is in love with Will.  Both boys have a part of her heart, but she can only be with one of them.  I feel that Tessa has so many wonderful qualities and honestly, I just loved her through the whole series.  She grows and learns so much.  She has many heartbreaking moments throughout the books and the way she deals with it made her even more endearing.

Will is the epitome of a crush worthy boy.  He is tall dark and handsome, but he has a tortured soul.  He is madly in love with Tessa, but by the time he told her his feelings she was already engaged to his best friend.  Will would do anything for Jem, in a way they were like soul mates.  As he watches Jem deteriorate, he is slowly dying inside as well.  He is torn between his feelings for Tessa and his loyalty to Jem.  Will is the funny brooding type of person.  He has a really sweet side but you have to find it under his sarcastic side.   Will and Tessa’s romance is explosive.   They have amazing chemistry, and they understand each other better than anyone else.  I love Will and I think that he is perfect for Tessa.

Jem is such an amazing person.  He is that person that looks for the good in everyone.  He hasn’t had the easiest life, but he tries to always be as positive as he can.  He is fiercely loyal, and he has so many endearing qualities.  His romance with Tessa is so beautiful.  He loves her unconditionally and it is so sweet.  He knows that he doesn’t have a lot to offer her but he gives her everything he has.  He will sacrifice everything to try and comfort those he cares about.   I always liked Jem, but this book made me love him.

I loved this book!!!  I would have to say that this is one of my favorite series ever.  Cassandra Clare does such an amazing job.  The story was filled with wonderful romance, great action, heartbreaking moments, and beautifully developed characters.  There were parts where I laughed, parts where I sighed, and parts where I cried.  The book is so well rounded and really I couldn’t have asked for a better ending to such a wonderful series.  I feel that the ending was so perfect and that all fans of the series will be extremely satisfied.  I personally have enjoyed everything that Clare has written but this series is my favorite.  I would highly recommend this series to anyone that likes YA paranormal, you will not be disappointed.

Notable Scene:

THE INFERNAL DEVICES ARE WITHHOUT PITY.

THE INFERNAL DEVICES ARE WITHOUT REGRET.

THE INFERNAL DEVICES ARE WITHOUT NUMBER.

THER INFERNAL DEVICES WILL NEVER STOP COMING.

And there, beneath the scrawls, a last sentence, barely readable, as if whoever had written it had been losing the use of his hands.  She pictured Benedict locked in this room, going slowly mad as he transformed, smearing the words on the wall with his own ichor-ridden blood.

MAY GOOD HAVE MERCY ON OUR SOULS.

The Infernal Devices Series:

1. Clockwork Angel

2. Clockwork Prince

3. Clockwork Princess

FTC Advisory: Margaret K. McElderry Books/Simon & Schuster provided me with a copy of Clockwork Priness. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.
