Brynn LeBreck has dedicated herself to helping women in crisis, but she never imagined how personal her work would get, or where it would take her. Her younger sister is missing, suspected to be hiding from cops and criminals alike at a highly secretive BDSM retreat-a place where the elite escape to play out their most extreme sexual fantasies. To find her, Brynn must go undercover as a sexual submissive. Unfortunately, The Ranch is invitation only. And the one master who can get her in is from the darkest corner of Brynn’s past.
Brynn knows what attorney Reid Jamison is like once stripped of his conservative suit and tie. Years ago she left herself vulnerable only to have him crush her heart. Now she needs him again. Back on top. And he’s all too willing to engage. But as their primal desires and old wounds are exposed, the sexual games escalate-and so does the danger. Their hearts aren’t the only things at risk. Someone else is watching, playing by his own rules. And his game could be murder.
Quick & Dirty: A book exploring a Dom/Sub relationship between two people that have tried everything to deny their natural desires.
Opening Sentence: Don the gas masks and cue the mushroom cloud.
Crash into You is a dark and sensual tale, woven among suspense and decadence meant to lure you into deep and hidden recesses of the human heart. This book exposes forgotten heat and love while competing with the pain and fear of betrayal and abuse. It is most definitely about being true to yourself and having the courage to admit your wants, then the fortitude to act upon it. Brynn LeBreck will do anything for her sister, including going undercover as a sexual submissive in a BDSM retreat known as The Ranch. But what else is she willing to do for love?
Brynn is a caretaker. She cares for her alcoholic mother and flighty sister. Her job as a therapist is stressful and the demands on her time and responsibilities weigh heavy on her shoulders. After meeting Reid the first time, she is introduced to a world where she no longer has to think; only feel. Brynn’s character is everything I think of when I want to describe the typical woman; complex. She is strong and capable and inspires other women to do the same. At the same time, she is scared and scarred by sexual trauma and valiantly tries to come to terms with it on her own. In Brynn’s case, her sexual trauma has affected her sex life. Though she enjoyed being a submissive, she no longer feels safe enough to do so. Each woman has it in them to have many different aspects in their life that they try to not have affect other parts, like professional and personal relationships. We all have the ability to compartmentalize different parts of our lives, but at what cost? How long can Brynn remain happy and healthy while denying those parts of her that need attention? Can she ever truly be happy when she doesn’t understand or accept all the factions within herself?
Reid Jamison is a dark and sexy hunk-of-burning-love. He, too, has tried to deny integral parts of himself in an attempt to be “normal.” But by denying what he truly likes, he winds up in a loveless marriage and a bucket load of regrets. His biggest regret is keeping secrets and losing the only woman he’s ever truly wanted; Brynn. Reid spends the whole book trying to win back the woman he let slip through his fingers so many years ago. Under the pretense of helping her find her sister, Reid arranges for Brynn to enter as a submissive in an exclusive BDSM compound. Little does she realize that he plans to be the only Dom that gets to sample her goods unless with his express consent. Hotness ensues and the two of them set the pages on fire!
While the story’s main focus is on the relationship between Brynn and Reid, they do have some heart-stopping tension and suspense to add to it. Brynn’s sister has new information about the murder of their mother, but goes missing before giving it over to the one lawyer she trusts, Reid. During their search, Brynn and her ex find not only the man who they are looking for, but also run into the man that raped and beat Brynn so many years ago. Can they find a way to exact justice without losing each other in the process?
I liked this book for its simple message: There is no shame in doing things with love when both adults are consenting. There is no “normal,” no matter what pressures there are to make it so. This book is both tasteful and sensual, emphasizing being true to your heart’s desires. The bedroom (and other areas) scenes are nice, too!
“Oh.” She’d only been asking for a kiss, but the new suggestion sent a shot of lust-laced adrenaline through her vitals. She glanced at the empty hallway over his shoulder. “There aren’t hidden security cameras around, are there?”
“Nope.” He dragged his greedy gaze over her chest, and her nipples tightened under the perusal, her whole body going achy with want. “Grab the edges of the shelf above your head and don’t let go. I’ll show you exactly how much I missed you.”
She stretched her arms above her and wrapped her fingers around the cool metal, her heart hammering against here tonight?”
“Nope.” He set her on her feet, giving her a dark smile, and shoved her skirt to her waist. “Want me to stop?”
His fingers trailed up her inner thigh, sending hot and tingly desire steamrolling over any lingering worries. She shook her head. “God, no.”
“Good.” The backs of his knuckles brushed against the cotton of her panties. “Because I don’t know if I could make it through a whole meal knowing how hot and wet you are under these already.”
She wriggled against his touch, seeking more, needing all of him. Now. “Well, whose fault is that?”
“You’re sassy tonight.” His hand slid beneath the band of her underwear dragging heated fingers over her slick tissues and the throbbing bundle of nerves. “Guess I need to remind you who’s in charge.”
