Synopsis:

Mercy Thompson is a shapeshifter, and while she was raised by werewolves, she can never be one of them, especially after the pack ran her off for having a forbidden love affair. So she’s turned her talent for fixing cars into a business and now runs a one-woman mechanic shop in the Tri-Cities area of Washington State.

But Mercy’s two worlds are colliding. A half-starved teenage boy arrives at her shop looking for work, only to reveal that he’s a newly changed werewolf—on the run and desperately trying to control his animal instincts. Mercy asks her neighbor Adam Hauptman, the Alpha of the local werewolf pack, for assistance.

But Mercy’s act of kindness has unexpected consequences that leave her no choice but to seek help from those she once considered family—the werewolves who abandoned her…

Quick & Dirty: A Walker who is about to get involved in Werewolf business.

Opening Sentence: I didn’t realize he was a werewolf at first.

The Review:

Mercy is a Walker living in the Tri-Cities and she minds her business and fixes cars for a living. So when a young half-starved werewolf shows up at her door asking for work, she knows she should turn him away but she doesn’t. She invites Mac in, and when he is attacked and Mercy comes to his rescue killing another werewolf she knows that she has to call Adam in. Adam is the local Alpha and he will be able to help Mac control himself as a wolf.

All seems well until Mac’s dead body is literally dumped on Mercy’s door, and when she races up to Adam’s house she finds him barely alive and Jesse (his daughter) is missing. Mercy panics and takes Adam all the way to Montana to Bran’s territory in order to get him treated. She has a feeling someone in his pack sold him out.  Once there Mercy learns that Bran plans on outing the wolves like the Fae did 20 years earlier.

Sam decides to return with Mercy and Adam, and while looking into who came into Adam’s territory they discover that the local Vampire group had knowledge of it. When their visit there is met with an attack, Mercy knows this is so much deeper than she realized. Will she be able to find Jesse? Will they find out who is behind the attacks and why?

This is one of my favorite series of all times, I read each new book faithfully and jumped on board to review them all for the site. I love Mercy because she is not a werewolf, she is so much more. I also love the mystery of finding more about Walkers as this series goes on. In this book it is just some basic information, that they turn into coyotes and are resistant to certain magic. Plus, at one point they had a lot of run-ins with vampires.

Adam, Sam and Mercy so much there. Mercy has mostly moved on from her youthful relationship with Sam. However, he appears to still want more from her and well Adam keeps staking claim as well. It is interesting to see this all from the beginning and wondering which way she will go. Plus Zee, if you do not know who Zee is than you must read these books!

Notable Scene:

I stared at the door, but didn’t say anything I didn’t want to talk to him. He’d been right. I had been useless–subjecting Adam to a six-hour drive because of a chance remark of Darryl’s, a remark that I was beginning to think meant nothing. Of course, as I’d told Samuel earlier, the pack would have had to bring Adam to Montana or at least send for a dominant until Adam could control himself–but they would have set his broken leg immediately.
