Synopsis:

In the savage world of shapeshifters desire can be as dangerous as nature itself….

As bodyguard to the most powerful shapeshifter in the human world, Shadow Shifter, Eli Preston has sworn to protect his leader, defend their alliance, and keep his darker instincts in check. But when a beautiful female trainee arouses his jaguar senses, there is no stopping the beast within. He must have her. Even if it jeopardizes the deadliest mission of his life…

When the heat is on-and the claws come out-the heart is the fiercest hunter…

For six years, Nivea has been waiting for Eli to take her in his arms, unleash his animal urges, and claim her as his mate. But once their passion is unleashed-in a reckless moment of pure unbridled lust-nothing can ever be the same. The battlelines are drawn: man versus animal, shapeshifter versus shapeshifter. And Eli must be prepared to fight for his life-and his love-or he will lose Nivea forever…in Primal Heat, the final Shadow Shifters novel by A.C. Arthur.

Quick & Dirty: A race against time, rogues working to expose the Shadow Shifters, will Eli be able to save Rome and Nivea or will he lose everything he loves?

Opening Sentence: “The time has come.” Baxter Utiera spoke solemnly.”

Excerpt: Yes

The Review:

Eli is the one of the bodyguards for the First family of Shadow shifter’s and Nivea is a trainee under him. He has been fighting his attraction for a long time but he can’t hold out any longer. However, there is a deadly game afoot, with humans and rogues involved. Humans working with rogues are trying to bring the shadow shifter’s out of the shadows and into the light. Agent wilson is one of many trying to obtain proof to show the world. Eli is trying to stop that and build a relationship with Nivea, the beautiful daughter of traitors.

Together they try to fix and save their people from exposure. Will they be able to save their people and each other?

I really want to say more about these books, but honestly I am not sure what would be a spoiler or what would build interest. I enjoyed the book but yes (hangs head), I haven’t read any others’ in the series and seeing how this was a final book, I think it was important. So I am not going to be overly negative because I didn’t love it, I think if I had read the other five books that things that seemed confusing to me would have made more sense and I would have liked it more. That being said, Portuguese speaking cat shifters, hot right? I really liked that aspect of the book. Although, I wish some of the translations were there because I just don’t speak or read Portuguese.

I had a bit of like/dislike with Eli, I mean a smoking hot jaguar, what’s not to love, especially a tortured duty bound bodyguard. I didn’t understand some of the flashbacks and feelings he had (wish I would have read the other books), so I think that hindered me outright from loving him. Nivea seemed like a wonderfully strong woman who was carrying a torch on him for a long time. That threw me a little, because there seemed like a lot of attraction there so why would he ignore her for so long. Hence my dislike for him, and my small issue with her. Oh, and warning, there is mention of sexual abuse (not in detail), but I know that triggers some people.

If you are a fan of this series, I think you are going to find this is the kind of conclusion you will love, I mean I knew everything was wrapped up despite my lack of knowledge. Plus, I loved the way A.C. Arthur wrapped it up, and no spoilers from me. The way the series was finished and the cultural aspects of the books really amped up how I felt about this book. I like seeing things about cultures I don’t know and I love when an author makes the mythology great. The world building is so essential to a story, and if done badly can really ruin a book, and when done well like this series, it really enhances the story. So to sum it up, if you love this series be prepared to be happy. If you are interested in this series, my suggestion is start with Book 1, Temptation Rising.

Notable Scene:

“He wanted to yell with the rage of helplessness, a feeling he despised more than fear, but admitted to feeling more of in the last weeks.”

“In his mind’s eye he could see it clearly, could piece together Nivea’s reluctance to go home to her family in New York, to even talk about them.”

“They were killing and pillaging like some prehistoric scene come horribly to life.”

The Shadow Shifters:

1. Temptation Rising

2. Seduction’s Shift

3. Passion’s Prey

4. Shifter’s Claim

5. Hunger’s Mate

6. Primal Heat
