Hello, my name is Beth and I write sexy romances for Berkley and Samhain Publishing as well as contemporary romance for Harlequin Special Edition. I was first published in 2007, and I’m having a ball in this second career.
Can you introduce us to the world that you have created?
I write in a quite a few genres, but I’ll talk about a new series I have coming out from Harlequin called Home to Harbor Town. This series is based on a fictional beach town on the shores of Lake Michigan, a place where affluent families from Detroit and Chicago vacation during the summer months, but which is also the year-round home for people from every walk of life. Home to Harbor Town is about three families from different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds whom are irrevocably tied together after a fatal car crash involving a drunk driver. It’s a very emotional, intense series about conflict and the healing power of love. As for all of my books, romance is the priority. The first in the series comes out March 22, and it’s called The Hometown Hero Returns.
Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
This will be my third RT! My first was in Orlando in 2009. I didn’t know anyone. I just went and attended everything I could–workshops, parties, talks from publishers. Everyone is so friendly, and everyone loves books, of course. My advice would be just to go and submerse yourself and don’t be shy. You’ll have a ball, and you’ll meet some wonderful new friends.
Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to? What panels are you planning on attending?
I am. I’m chairing the panel Body and Soul: How to Write Emotionally Intense Love Scenes, with authors Megan Hart, Lauren Dane and HelenKay Dimon. (Wed at 3:30)
I’m on the panel for Writing Across Multiple Genres, Formats and Publishing Models with Lauren Dane and Megan Hart (Thursday at 10)
RT this year has a movie theme, so I’d like to check out The Reel World: Printed Page to Silver Screen by Marley Gibson and Angela Knight. I’ve never attempted a screenplay, but you never know…
If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
You can easily hunt me down at my workshops, or else at Club RT, where I’ll be Thursday at 11:45. Also, I’ll be easily found at the big Book Fair. In general, any time you see me wandering around or in the bar, feel free to snag me and say hello.
