Hi, I’m a debut author from Decadent Publishing and my book, The Kraken’s Mirror, was released on January 31, 2011. I’ve been a big fan of RT for several years now, having taken Judi McCoy’s Begining Writer’s Class in Pittsburgh.
I’ve been coming to RT ever since, pitching and meeting people. I love the convention and am looking forward to taking part in my first book signing in Los Angeles.
Can you introduce us to the world that you have created?
The Kraken’s Mirror takes place in a topsy turvy Caribbean world where the pirates of the 1690s wear Ipods, there are blenders in every tavern of Tortuga and the Great Albino Kraken keeps an eye on everyone. There are portals to other worlds, times and places in Tortuga and the refuse from these worlds wash up on the shores.
Into this world drops Emily Pawes, a widow from our modern world, brought by the Kraken to assist the cursed pirate captain, Alan Silvestri. Emily believes she’s simply gone insane, while Silvestri sees her as the answer to his prayers.
There are vampires on Tortuga, part of the defense system. And werewolves who live in the forest. And zombies in the swamps. All of which leaves Emily sure of her madness. The Kraken has plans for her and with no way out, Emily finds herself swept into the adventures, and arms, of Captain Silvestri.
Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
As I said before, I’m a veteran. My advice is simple…wear comfortable shoes, bring a nice canvas bag to haul your goodies and don’t kill yourself following a tight schedule. Be open to opportunities to just meet people and have fun. Be friendly, smile, introduce yourself.
Oh, and bring sticky labels with your name, address, telephone number, e-mail and a room to put your room number for Club RT. It’s the best way to up your chances of winning something!
Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to? What panels are you planning on attending?
I’ve been asked to take part in a panel called “He’s A Pirate!” with Cherry Adair and Katherine Ashe. It’s going to be a fun panel for readers with pirate/treasure/Caribbean trivia and clues to follow to prizes!
I’m very excited to be part of this panel, put together by Katherine Ashe.
I’ll also be there early, helping Judi McCoy with this year’s crop of students and signing books at both the E-Expo (two short erotic novellas pending release by Decadent) and the Saturday book Faire. I also have a basket/treasure chest I’m giving away at Club RT.
The steampunk panels interest me as well as learning more about how to use social media to connect with my readers.
If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
I’ll be wearing my black pirate hat, full of feathers and my purple pirate style coat most days. I should be easy to spot and please…come say hello! I love to chat with people!
