I’m Renee Bernard and I write historical romances with a secret smattering of the paranormal in my character’s lives (but only for my most discerning readers to pick up on ;-) My alter ego is Robin Geoffreys who writes Sci-Fi/Fantasy Romance and her first book just came out on Kindle – “Treason’s Heart”!
Can you introduce us to the world that you have created?
For my Jaded Gentlemen series, the world is Victorian London in 1860, but since the men have returned from India, there’s a bit of intrigue as they tangle with myth and perception—and at least one bona fide magic gem that alters men’s fortunes. No one has asked, but a lot of my stories have elements that defy logic (cursed stones, family ghosts and the occasional unexplained talent of a heroine to win at any game she plays or for a hero to “read” an objects history by touch.) I sit happily in the historical romance category and add my brushes with the paranormal because I think they make my fictional world more real (if that makes sense!)
Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
I’m a veteran! I love RT! And my advice to anyone going for the first time is to relax and enjoy it! This is a chance to celebrate the genres and not feel the need to defend them. RT is a chance to laugh and network, play and reconnect with the reason we all read romance and write it. Readers are the stars at RT, and I love that!
Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to? What panels are you planning on attending?
I’m moderating the Historical Romance workshops (two of them) and I’m one of the sponsors of several events (Saucy Sirens Soiree and the SOS Party). I love the panels and workshops at this conference, so I’ve got my eye on too many to count. But I plan on hanging out with the Steampunkers, because they are cool and if I can sneak into the one on selling your stuff to Hollywood, I might just do it!
If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
Crazy woman with long red hair who is probably doing her best not to get into trouble (and failing!) I’m dressing for everything this year because I’ve decided that it’s time to just embrace the madness and meet as many readers as I can!
