I’m Sophie Jordan, the author of several bestselling historical romances for Avon and a young adult paranormal romance trilogy for HarperTeen. Firelight, book one of that series, released last September. Since then, Firelight has sold to fourteen foreign countries and has been optioned for film by Mandalay. Screenwriter Nick Pustay has signed on to adapt Firelight to script.
Can you introduce us to the world that you have created?
This is the tagline for Firelight and I think it captures the essence of the trilogy well:
A hidden truth. Mortal enemies. Doomed love.
I’ve built an elaborate world into my YA series. In Firelight you meet Jacinda, a draki. The draki descend from dragons, but they’re really their own species. Most of the time they go about as humans, their true selves hidden, but they can shift into dragon-type creatures. Jacinda is the last fire-breathing draki of her kind, which makes her a coveted commodity among her pride … but also a prize for the humans that hunt them. Of course, there is a steamy romance at the center of the story. Romance, action, danger, and a unique paranormal world grounded within modern day … it has it all!
Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
I’ve been one time several years ago and I know a lot has changed since then, so I’m really looking forward to experiencing it anew. And in L.A., no less! My best advice is to be open to the experience. Have fun, network and attend as many events as you can.
Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to? What panels are you planning on attending?
On Friday, I will be speaking on a panel with my long-standing critique partner Tera Lynn Childs. And what else will we be talking about but … critiquing?!
I’ll also be participating in Teen Day and Avon’s Dusk Until Dark party Friday night. Copies of my books will be up for grabs at both events so be sure to attend. Mostly, I’m looking forward to networking with other authors and readers.
If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
There are several ways to locate me: Avon’s Dusk Until Dark party, RT’s Teen Day, my Friday panel, and of course, I’ll be signing at the giant book fair.
