Spooky Legends: Bekka Black (Guest Post & Giveaway)

Bekka Black is here today as the Spooky Legends event comes to a close.  Bekka’s book, iDrakula, was recently released on October 1, 2010.

You can read an excerpt from iDrakula here.  Bekka is here to give us one final story using a unique format for the most popular urban legend of them all.  You also have a chance to win a copy of iDRAKULA.  As always, details are listed below.

**Visit All Things Urban Fantasy today for her Spooky Legends Guest blog with Kersten Hamilton and a chance to win TYGER TYGER**

Author Bio:

After a childhood often spent without electricy and running water, Bekka escaped the beautiful wilderness of Talkeetna, Alaska for indoor plumbing and 24/7 electricity in Berlin, Germany. Used to the cushy lifestyle, she discovered the Internet in college and has been wasting time on it ever since (when not frittering away her time on her iPhone). Somehow, she manages to write novels, including the award-winning Hannah Vogel mystery series set, in all places, 1930s Berlin. The series has received numerous starred reviews and the first book, A Trace of Smoke, was chosen as a Writer’s Digest Notable debut.

She lives in Hawaii with her husband, son, two cats, and too many geckoes to count. iDrakulais her first cell phone novel.

Subject: Going to visit Lucy

Sent: October 31 9:13 AM

I’m going to visit Lucy’s crypt today. I haven’t been back since we put her stuffed cat into her coffin the week after everything happened. I feel like I’m strong enough now to just sit there and grieve. I know you’d like it better if you came along, but I want to do this by myself.

How about we meet at Shino’s for lunch? I know you have class until 12:30, so let’s meet at 1. OK?

Text Message from Abe Van Helsing to Mina Murray: October 31 1:06 PM

ABE: I’m @ Shino’s. Where are you?

1:10 PM

ABE: Mina?

Text Message from Abe Van Helsing to Mina Murray: October 31 3:40 PM

ABE: I called your mother and she hasn’t seen you all day. We are both quite concerned. Please call me.

Subject: Another case for you

Sent: October 31 4:13 PM

Hello Abe,

Remember that case last summer by Trinity Cemetery? The teenage boy found drained of blood whose autopsy you requested? Another murder victim has been found in almost the exact same location. The autopsy results are practically identical as well. I’m thinking of assigning it for class next week. Something for the ghouls to contemplate on Halloween…

Text Message from Mina Murray to Abe Van Helsing: October 31 5:51 PM

MINA: Abe? R u there?

ABE: I’m here. Where are you?

MINA: It’s dark and my head hurts

ABE: I’ll call you

MINA: No. I’m afraid to talk here. It’s too quiet

ABE: Where are you?

MINA: I don’t know. It’s dark. I’ll use my phone to look around

ABE: See anything?

Text Message from Lucy Westenra to Mina Murray: October 31 5:55 PM

LUCY: mina, i can’t believe u did that to me

Text Message from Mina Murray to Abe Van Helsing: October 31 5:56 PM

MINA: I just got a text from Lucy

ABE: Lucy’s dead, Mina

MINA: It’s from her phone, Abe. I know she’s dead. But it’s from her phone

ABE: Where are you?

MINA: I’m in a dark room. It’s got a few boxes in it

ABE: And?

MINA: Coffins. I’m in a crypt

ABE: Get out!

Text Message from Lucy Westenra to Mina Murray: October 31 5:58 PM

LUCY: u left me here, mina. Remember?

MINA: Lucy is dead. Who r u?

LUCY: death isn’t always forever. u of all people should know that

Text Message from Abe Van Helsing to Mina Murray: October 31 5:59 PM

ABE: It’s after sunset now, Mina. Be very careful

MINA: I’m in Lucy’s crypt, Abe. I’m locked in

ABE: I’ll call the police and I’ll get a cab there. Sit tight. Help is on its way

MINA: Hurry! Call Lucy’s dad to get the crypt key

ABE: Will do. Are you alone?

MINA: I think so. I hope so

Text Message from Abe Van Helsing to Mina Murray: October 31 6:06 PM

ABE: I sent the police, Mina. They’ll be there any second. They’ve triangulated your phone

MINA: Abe, have there been any mysterious deaths around here?

ABE: Why are you asking?

MINA: Why aren’t u answering?

ABE: Do you see something?

MINA: Not with the phone light. But I’m wondering if Lucy’s really back

ABE: She can’t be

MINA: Someone else?

ABE: Its is most probably only a prank. Try to stay calm

MINA: U stay calm. U’re not locked in a crypt in the dark

ABE: I’m sorry. Someone should be there soon. I should be there soon

Text Message from Lucy Westenra to Mina Murray: October 31 6:08 PM

LUCY: remember when we were kids together, mina?

MINA: Who are u? (does she use u or you?)

LUCY: ur best friend since kindergarten, remember? u followed me everywhere

MINA: Lucy is dead

LUCY: remember the night we snuck out hunting fireflies?  u didn’t want to do it

MINA: Every kid does that

LUCY: i cut my toe. it bled on that ugly yellow rug and u thought ur mom would kill u

MINA: This isn’t funny

LUCY: maybe she wasn’t the one who was supposed to kill u

MINA: You aren’t either

LUCY: it’s time to follow me again, mina. into the darkness.

Text Message from Abe Van Helsing to Mina Murray: October 31 6:10 PM

ABE: Mina, you are going to have to be very brave. The police say that the person is texting from inside the crypt

ABE: Mina?

ABE: Mina?!?

Text Message from Abe Van Helsing to Lucy Westenra: October 31 6:16 PM

ABE: Lucy?

LUCY: it’s been a long time, dutchman

ABE: Where are you?

LUCY: i think u know

Synopsis (Product Description):

The classic vampire story that started it all gets new life for a generation of connected teens. 18-year-old Jonathan Harker is diagnosed with a rare blood disorder after visiting a Romanian Count. His girlfriend Mina and a pre-med student named Van Helsing team up to investigate the source of the disease. The teenagers discover a horrifying truth: the Count is a vampire. The harrowing events unfold through emails, text messages, web pages, Twitter feeds, and instant messaging-the natural modernization of Bram Stoker’s original Dracula, which was written in letters, diary entries, and news clippings.
