Hi, everyone! It’s great to be a part of this year’s Spooky Legends event! I love this time of year. The nights are darker. A chill is slipping into the air. And when the moon rises so big in the sky, I wonder…what else could be out there?
For today’s post, I’m going to let Nicole St. James, the heroine of my upcoming release, ANGEL OF DARKNESS (coming November 29th from Kensington Brava) take over the post. Once upon a time, Nicole was your average human. Now…well, thanks to an unfortunate encounter with a vamp on a dark, New Orleans night, Nicole’s human life is over.
She’s not exactly thrilled about that new development.
And the legend she’s here to talk about? Well, since Nicole grew up surrounded by the mystery of Louisiana, she wants to talk about the infamous loup garou. Hope you enjoy her take on the legend…
Nicole: When I was a child, I feared the loup garou. If I ever wandered too close to the swamp, I could hear the screams that came from within. Screams that were supposed to belong to the loup-garou’s victims. Half-man, half-wolf, I was told that he came in the night. That he attacked with claws and teeth, and left blood and death in his wake.
His was supposed to have the head of a wolf. The body of a man. And the bloodlust of the devil. Good little girls stayed far away from the swamps and from him.
Yes, when I was a child, I feared him.
And now? Well, if the loup-garou is real, he needs to fear me. He’s not the only thing out there going bump in the night. When I get my vamp on, my teeth might even be sharper than his. And I have my own claws. The better to fight any beastie that might come my way.
What do I think the loup garou really is? Probably a shifter because yeah, I’ve learned those jerks are real. Only they don’t need a full-moon to turn into an animal. They can shift whenever and wherever they want. That loup garou? I bet he’s a shifter that went crazy. Went wild in the swamp. Wolf shifters always dance on the edge of sanity anyway. Guess this guy danced over the edge.
He’d better stick to his swamps. Better stay far away from me. I’m tired of being pushed around. I’m tired of being afraid.
I’m not a child anymore. Loup garou, you should be afraid. Very afraid—of me.
Thanks for checking out Nicole’s take on the loup garou! Have you heard other tales of this half-man, half-wolf beast? I’d love to hear them!

Cynthia is a southern girl who loves horror movies, chocolate, and happy endings. She has always wanted to write (don’t most authors say that?), and particularly enjoys creating stories about monsters–vampires, werewolves, and even the real-life monsters that populate her romantic suspense stories.
Cynthia’s foreign sales for her books include translations to Japan, Germany, Thailand, and Brazil.
(Back in the day…) Cynthia graduated summa cum laude from the University of South Alabama where she studied Sociology (because people interest her) and Communication (because she likes to write about said people). Cynthia has worked as a college admissions counselor, a teacher, and as an editor. But now, Cynthia is thrilled to be spending her days making up stories.

About the Book:
As an angel of death, Keenan’s job is to collect the souls on his list. He’s carried out his duty for two thousand years and never faltered once. Until he meets Nicole St. James. When the moment of death comes, Keenan hesitates, and instead of taking Nicole, Keenan touches the vampire who’s attacking her.
Cast out of heaven for disobedience, Keenan plummets to earth. Six months later, he finally manages to track Nicole to a bar in Mexico. He’s stunned to discover that the woman he remembers has undergone a dramatic change—she’s become a vampire. And when he realizes that she’s the target of all manner of enemies—other vampires, demons, even shifters—he’ll do whatever it takes to protect her, even if all hell breaks loose…
