One winner will receive a copy of Death Watch (Undertaken Trilogy) by Ari Berk

Available on November 15, 2011 from Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing

About the Book:

One night, Silas Umber’s father Amos doesn’t come home from work. Devastated, Silas learns that his father was no mere mortician but an Undertaker, charged with bringing The Peace to the dead trapped in the Shadowlands, the states of limbo binding spirits to earth. With Amos gone, Silas and his mother have no choice but to return to Lichport, the crumbling seaside town where Silas was born, and move in with Amos’s brother, Charles.

Even as Silas eagerly explores his father’s town and its many abandoned streets and overgrown cemeteries, he grows increasingly wary of his uncle. There is something not quite right going on in Charles Umber’s ornate, museum-like house—something, Silas is sure, that is connected to his father’s disappearance. When Silas’s search leads him to his father’s old office, he comes across a powerful artifact: the Death Watch, a four hundred year old Hadean clock that allows the owner to see the dead.

Death Watch in hand, Silas begins to unearth Lichport’s secret history—and discovers that he has taken on his father’s mantle as Lichport’s Undertaker. Now, Silas must embark on a dangerous path into the Shadowlands to embrace his destiny and discover the truth about his father—no matter the cost.

My favorite urban legend is saying Ghost come here three times in the mirror and a ghost will appear.
    Thanks for the giveaway.

    Thanks for the great giveaway!

I’ve always loved the urban legends of people that get a gut feeling about a place, person, thing and don’t stop or go a different way and find out later that that saved their lives.

Well, today my favorite urban legend has changed – it does that quite often depending on the mood I’m in. Ghosts are the mind at the moment so any regarding scary and mean ghosts are the favorite of today.

My favorite is snipe hunting. You’re supposed to go hunting for a snipe & the gullible person is given the bag & told to hold it while everyone else chases the snipe towards them. The one holding the bag is usually left alone in the dark & everyone else tries to scare them.

So if you find yourself in a small town/rural area, don’t go snipe hunting!

My favorite urban legend is the one of Bloody Mary. It’s the one (I’m sure you know it) where you go alone into a room with a mirror, turn the lights out, say bloody Mary three times and then turn the light back on and apparently, you see a bloody Queen Mary in the mirror. I’ve honestly never been brave enough to try it because Queen Mary is pretty scary to me. But I know nothing really happens when you do it, it’s the fact that I still can’t do it that makes it my favorite.

I just mentioned a favorite urban legend in another comment and do not be repetitive, so this time I will choose the old haunted house. There is always one in every neighborhood the the rumor is don’t go in or you will never come out. Again, I think these legends were passed down from parent to parent through the generations with the thought in mind if we can scare them our young ones will not go in and get hurt in an abandoned building :) Of course we always had to find a way to prove them wrong LOL Thank you for sharing I would love to read Death Watch :)

So is it weird if I kind of want to enroll in Central Michigan University just to take some of Ari’s classes? Man, if my college had offered courses like those, I would’ve tried to be a six-year senior, just so I could keep taking awesome classes.

And this book definitely looks like an awesome read. Thanks for the giveaway op!

    Smiles!

I don’t really have a favorite urban legend…but there’s always Large Marge-who doesn’t love that scene from Pee Wee! The one about the woman dressed in white who waits by the side of the road for some guy to drive her home is always a good one too. It’s hauntingly sad.
