Spooky Legends Giveaway: Unforsaken by Sophie Littlefield

My next Spooky Legends bonus giveaway is UNFORSAKEN from Sophie Littlefield. UNFORSAKEN is the follow-up to BANISHED and the final book in the Banished young adult series.  Unfortunately, Sophie’s busy writing schedule kept her from participating in our event.  Thanks to Sophie, you have a chance to win a copy of the book!  See details below.

______________________________________________________________________________________________

About Sophie:

Sophie grew up in central Missouri, daughter of a history professor father and an artist mother. She earned a degree in computer science at a large Midwestern university and made very little use of it. After living in Chicago for ten years, she and her husband packed up the kids and moved to Northern California in 1998. She’s been keeping house and writing ever since. She published a number of short stories and articles before landing an agent and selling her first novel in the spring of 2008.

As one of the Banished who arrived from Ireland generations ago, Hailey has the power to heal—and, as she recently learned, to create zombies if she heals someone too late. But now, Hailey is finally getting a chance at a normal life. After realizing the good and bad sides of her power, Hailey has survived the unimaginable to settle with her aunt, Prairie, and her little brother, Chub, in the suburbs of Milwaukee. Finally Hailey has a loving family, nice clothes, and real friends. But her safe little world is blown apart when she tries to contact her secret boyfriend, Kaz—and alerts the incredibly dangerous man who’s looking for her to her true whereabouts.

I would love to win a copy of Unforsaken. I’ve got that series on my wishlist. My favorite urban legend is probably the one about the serial killer who gets scared away from his target, leaving his briefcase in the backseat with duct tape and a knife inside. I don’t know why, but that one always gives me the chills.

There is one about a man driving down an isolate stretch of rad at night. It’s likely raining and the weather is bad. He picks up a hitchhiker who is soaked and drives her home from her directions. When he goes to the house she vanishes. He goes to the house to inquire and learns that no young lady lives there. While he’s talking to the elderly couple he sees a picture of the lady behind their backs. Turns out it’s their daughter who died many years ago and supposedly her spirit is always asking drivers to bring her home. *shivers* I like it and it’s very believable. Makes me think twice of driving down a quiet road and encountering a ghost.

This looks really great, I haven’t read the first one but it’s on my TBR pile! I HATE this story because it scares the crap out of me and I love dogs, but the only urban legend I can think of is this: It’s storming outside (doesn’t it always start this way?) and a woman is lying in bed. Her dog always sleeps under the bed and so she puts her hand down there and the dog starts licking her and it reassures her. The she hears a dripping noise, and it sounds like it’s coming from the bathroom. She goes in there and sees her dog hanging dead in the shower, and the dripping sound was his blood. So he was licking her under the bed?

Seriously just got chills… *shivers uncontrollably* Going to check my shower and under my bed now.

Well my favorite urban legend is Emily Rose: The True Story of Anneliese Michel. Though it’s a true story I still classify it an urban legend. Loved the movie of Emily Rose that released in 2005, The Exorcism of Emily Rose. TY for the awesome contest!

The man with the hook was always fun – if only because it gave the girl a chance to shiver and snuggle closer to her boyfriend. Of course that wasn’t the moral that you were supposed to learn from the story!

I admit, I’m not very original, but my favourite urban legend is The Vanishing Hitchhiker. I think it’s because, aside from the obvious appeal of a ghost you don’t know is a ghost until afterwards, it has such a simple and elegant story structure.

OOOH! Awesome giveaway! I just got Banished from Amazon and I can’t wait to read it :)

My one of my fav urban legends is the one about the guy driving a long way to see his GF/family and sees a few bodies lying in the road. He starts to brake and then his gut tells him to keep going. He drives around and then looks in the review mirror to see the bodies get up and a crowd of people spill out from the sides of the road. What I love is the near miss and that he saved himself.

    Thanks again!
