Book Series: MetaWars
Job: Superhero; member of the reformed Ranger Corps
Height: Tall enough
Weight: More than a cat, less than a horse
Hair Color: Brown and purple
Eye Color: Purple (give me a break, I’m Meta-human)
From (Location): Los Angeles
Significant Other: My teammates (although one in particular makes my pulse race faster than the others)
Signature Move: Shooting purple power orbs from my hands
Kill Highlights: The only people I’ve killed have been in self-defense, and it’s not something I’m particularly proud of
Enemies: Banes (the bad-guy Metas who killed our parents); sometimes the federal government, too; on occasion, I am also my own worst enemy
Favorite Pastime: You assume I have any free time to spare on a pastime
Other Facts: After not having my powers for fifteen years, suddenly I have them again—only they aren’t my original powers. They’re way stronger, and I’m still trying to figure out just how strong they are. Oh and using them a lot? Sorta, kinda killing me.
I didn’t really have a choice about entering this contest, and I’m not exactly the type of person who goes out looking for a fight. Don’t get me wrong, though. I’m plenty scrappy without my powers (considering the neighborhood I live in and the jobs I often do, self-defense skills are a necessity), and I’m wicked with a can of mace. Plus, I would never ask anyone else in my Ranger Corps Unit to do something I’m not willing to do myself. I am their leader, after all.
I used to be a pretty good telepath, but after all of our stolen powers came back, I’m now a kick-ass telekinetic. Kinda. I can create and manipulate energy orbs. Little tiny ones that I can fling around like shotgun pellets. Really big ones I can use to knock you flat on your ass. I even figured out how to set up one like a force field (although the feedback can be killer), and it saved my life more than once. So outside of Tempest (he’s an elemental who can manipulate wind), I’m pretty much the strongest person in our Unit—although there’s only six of us to choose from, and a lot more Banes with equally strong powers.
But I’ll fight them another day.
Both of my parents were superheroes. My dad was one of the best, and he led the last of the Rangers during the War. It’s a lot to live up to, being the daughter of a great hero. All of us had parents or mentors who fought bravely and died in the War against the Banes, and doing them proud drives us. It drives me more than any other thing (except survival). Until the day he died, my father never failed in a mission, and I will fight with every ounce of my being to be the kind of leader he was. To be the hero he was.
To survive and allow my teammates to thrive.
I might still be learning how to fully manipulate my orb powers, but I’m a quick learner and I think on my feet. I scraped by paycheck to paycheck for years, and I know how to improvise. I know pain and I know desperation. I’m battling for the honor of my Corps Unit, and for the honor of our fallen heroes. I may not like to fight, but I come to win.
A native of the Delaware seashore, Kelly Meding briefly attempted life in the bustle of the Northern Virginia/DC Metro area, before retreating back to the relative quiet of the Eastern Shore. She lives in a small town near the beach, with a neurotic cat who occasionally meows at ghosts. Kelly received her Bachelor’s Degree in Communication in 2002 and she hasn’t used it since, preferring instead to wile away her non-writing hours on the sales floor of a national retail chain. After discovering Freddy Krueger at a very young age, Kelly began a lifelong obsession with horror, science fiction, and fantasy, on which she blames her interest in vampires, psychic powers, superheroes, and all things paranormal. When not writing, she can be found crafting jewelry, enjoying a good cup of coffee, or scouring the Internet for gossip on her favorite television shows.

About the Book:
Kelly Meding’s war-ravaged Los Angeles is ground zero for the ultimate Meta human showdown in this sexy, action-packed new series.
Fifteen years ago, Teresa “Trance” West was a skilled telepath and a proud member of the Ranger Corps. But ever since the Rangers were inexplicably rendered powerless at the climax of the devastating Meta War, she’s bounced from one dead-end job to another. Now her powers have reappeared just as mysteriously as they vanished— only they’re completely transformed and more potent than ever. And they’re threatening to destroy her.
Trance heads to Los Angeles to track down the surviving Rangers and discover who restored her powers—and why—but a phantom enemy is determined to kill them before they can reassemble. As they dodge his deadly attacks and come to terms with their new role as heroes, Trance and the rest of the team set out to annihilate the sinister madman . . . only to discover their own powers are his greatest weapons.
