Supernatural Smack Down: Jocelynn Drake’s Gage Powell

LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLE…..

Gage Powell

Name: Gage Powell

Book Series: The Asylum Tales

Job: licensed tattoo artist and potion stirrer

Height: 5’11”

Weight: 170 lbs

Hair Color: brown

Eye Color: brown

From (Location): Low Town

Significant Other: Trixie (elf, tattoo artist)

Signature Move:  You mean other than the part where I kick your ass?

Kill Highlights:  Killing isn’t something that I’m proud of.  I left the Ivory Towers so that I wouldn’t have to sink to such levels, but sometimes, survival means choosing between your life and their life.  I chose mine.  I’ve ripped off a piece of a warlock’s soul with my bare hand and magic, then sold it to the Ferryman.  I’ve snapped a man’s neck with bolt of magic and then split the earth so that the city street swallowed up his still warm body.

Enemies: The warlocks and witches of the Ivory Towers (and most of the world if they find out I’m a warlock)

Favorite Pastime:  Sex. Watching a good movie with impressive explosions.  Playing Modern Warfare and shouting at freaking noobs.  Sex.  Hanging out with friends down at the Cock’s Crow and grabbing a few beers.

#

My name is Gage Powell and I’m not a bad ass.  No, I’m a survivor.  When I was seven, I displayed an ability to use magic so I was taken from my family to be trained as a warlock in the Ivory Towers.  I was 13 years old when I killed for the first time, and I realized then that if I stayed in the Ivory Towers that kill was only the beginning.  I studied magic until I was 17 and then fought my mentor for my freedom.  He tried to kill me, but I survived.  The Towers argued to kill me and I survived.

Nearly 10 years later, my mentor returned to finish the job so that he could clean up his last mistake (not killing me), but he failed.  He threatened my friends.  He threatened the woman I love.  I killed him and fed him the Lilith, queen of the underworld monsters.  The Ivory Towers are back in my life, threatening the people I care about in their effort to bend me to their will, but it’s not going to happen.  With my hawthorn wand in one hand and a pile of spells swirling in my brain, I’m ready to protect the family and the people of Low Town.

I’m here to prove that no one will hurt Trixie.  No one will touch Bronx and the people of Low Town so long as I have a breath in my lungs.  Warlocks, witches, vampires, and dark elves have tried to break me, but I’m still standing.  I’m a survivor.

About Jocelynn:

Is there more to life than writing?  For New York Times bestselling author Jocelynn Drake, the answer would have to be “not much.”  The Cincinnati, Ohio native started writing stories at the age of twelve in an old notebook and has never looked back from those early days of retelling the tale of Robin Hood so that it included a kick-ass heroine who could keep up with the rest of the boys running through Sherwood Forest.  Over the years, she has jumped from genre to genre, finding new ways to experiment in the art of storytelling.  In 1999, Jocelynn graduated from Northern Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in Journalism.  Some of her writing influences include Raymond Feist, Simon R. Green, and Kim Harrison, as well as Oscar Wilde and Mary Shelley.   The Dark Days series includes Nightwalker, Dayhunter, Dawnbreaker, Pray for Dawn, Wait for Dusk, and Burn the Night; as well as two prequel novellas.  She is currently working on a new urban fantasy series called The Asylum Tales, which hit the shelves in 2012, featuring warlocks, elves, trolls, vampires, and more in the new city of Low Town.  When she’s not writing, she is hanging out with her family, watching movies, traveling to distant locations, walking her dog Max, or just lounging around with her cats Demona and Harley while playing the latest video games.

About this Book:

The dark and dangerous follow-up that continues the adventures of a magical tattoo artist begun in Angel’s Ink

In a world where elves, faeries, trolls, werewolves, and vampires swim free in a sea of humanity, sometimes you need an edge. Looking for a little love? Need some luck? Desperate for revenge? Gage can give you what you need. The most talented tattoo artist in town, he knows the right symbol and the right mix of ingredients and ink to achieve your heart’s desire. One tattoo is all it takes. But remember, everything has its price. . . .

Gage learned that lesson long ago, in ways he’d rather not remember. But the cruel and powerful wizards in the dreaded Ivory Towers he escaped aren’t about to let him forget. Though Gage has managed to stay out of sight, he can’t outrun the past forever.

The wizards know Gage is using forbidden magic, and they intend to punish him for his transgressions. Too bad if innocent humans and monsters-entire cities-get in the way. They will quell a nascent magical uprising and Gage will be the sacrifice they need. First, though, they have to find him . . .

I definitely loved The Asylum Tales. All the characters are written really well and are loveable in their own ways.

I haven’t started this one yet (but I fairly recently finished the Dark Days series, does that sort of count for something?)

Also, weirdly, the last few times I’ve tried to post a comment on different things on this site I’ve been re-directed to the home page. So sorry if it looks like I double commented on a couple of things.
